Nothing wrong with depth guys like newnes just need someone to step up and take his spot in the 22

Hopefully LOB and Philip and I would be happy to see a Walsh on a wing as well….

I'd contend that LOB should have been in the side as soon as they stopped the VFL and would have deserved it based on his body of work - hopefully he won't be another young player lost to a dead end selection policy

All quiet on the Blues appointment front?
Aren't we looking to fill 3-4 Coach assistants?.
Happy about the Voss News. I guess Vossy had to get on board to be involved in the next process phase.
These next appointments will be very interesting, and will be integral to our success next year.
I am quietly confident, the peice will fall nicely into place.

I see you're a poster who appreciates facts. Hear there's a thread for that, instead of having a crack at people in a rumour thread speculating.

Between you and your facts thread and Thy and his depth thread....I reckon you two have more plugs than a bathroom supplies store...

6 is a great deal for Cerra. I can’t believe some here think otherwise. We would’ve been stoked to have him at 3 in 2017.

I suspect it’ll be 6 + F2 and some later fluff going either way.

Proven quality with scope for improvement >> players who may be quality in 2025.

I’ll be upset if we offer more than pick 6 for Cerra.

Would be Completely unnecessary to offer more. If Freo dont accept then we can pick him up in the national draft or they’ll get a worse deal with another team.

Agree. Highly doubt Cerra goes to PSD or ND. Only happens when a club is particularly obstropolous. Cerra will say he wants a good deal for Freo to leave on good terms. Freo wants a fair deal as do we. It will get done if Cerra nominates us.

I had to look up obstropolous... Turns out it doesn't mean 'brother of Con'...

Starring Brady Rawlings, Nick Stevens, Kurt Tippett, Jackson Hately and Jack Martin
Ok, let’s look at it…

5 cases that you’ve provided of players being walked to the PSD since Nick Stevens was taken by us there in 2003

From 2003 to 2020 there have been a total of 471 trades made in the AFL

So out of a total of 476 instances, 5 of those have ended in the PSD scenario. 1 in 95.2

I don’t know about you but if I were given a horse to back and was told it won once in every hundred or so cracks, I wouldn’t think it was a very likely outcome…

With the Cameron probably to Brisbane - not that there are often 3 way trades - but is there someone from Brisbane that may be available?

BTW, I suspect it will simply be SPS for picks, and if Brander, picks back... Not jumping up and down enthusiastically for Brander, but he could be good depth. But if SPS wasn't going to WC, would we bother with Brander?
Ballenden maybe?

I've had shares in a few horses that won about every that often.

Id love to see us try this. When pick 6 comes along and another team wants a player we could trade back in the draft for say pick 8+ a future third for 6. We then take Cerra at 6. Even the threat of it should be enough for Freo to take the deal. They could end up with nothing for him.

Would really like young Cameron for our list, exciting forward with a good bag of tricks, defensive pressure and speed..
Looks like he’s had a few worrying injuries though this year in syndesmosis and osteitis pubis…

There's everything wrong with 'depth' guys like Newnes. He is bog standard and barely makes 22. Our list should be made up of players that are challenging to break into the 22 week in week out. That is real depth. Not someone who can make up the numbers in a pinch. That's why we are where we are.

I'm not a massive fan of LOB but he is light years ahead of a more skilled player than Newnes. There is no upside to Newnes. His best is fringe in a below average side.

can't quite go with this, Newnes filled a valuable role this year and last.
a team without a realistic sustainable gameplan required the power of work he did, stuff that doesn't translate terribly well to tv coverage.

the question is at what point does a solid everyman player become a list clogger?
respect your view that it's now, just disagree that we necessarily have the players pushing him out right now.

hopefully by the middle of the year it's a different story.

Is it just me that think many posters here bust out this movie for a watch just before trade week starts?

another Kevin Costner movie where he plays an emotionally contained inanimate object.

but quite enjoyable anyway.

Yeah just read the article, shame he’s exactly the type of small forward I’d like the club to draft/trade in…
Hopefully he can get the body right for another crack at it…

Not true - Melbourne were blessed on the injury front this year and guys like Melksham and Hunt still played a number of games. Newnes is the definition of a role player and would've most definitely had played if he was on their list.
