I don’t even know if it’s the best option for Hawthorn to fling Mitchell for a mid-range pick (let’s say Pick 15).

His heroics in the second half of the year were the reason they stayed competitive and jagged as many wins as they did.

Wingard is an obvious candidate to move on. Not the kind of player you need while you’re rebuilding, but plenty of contending teams would also pay a premium for him.

The Hawks really do drop away after their best 4-5 players, and a couple of these guys are in the twilight of their careers.

Could be disastrous if they don’t manage it properly.

I don't think there is a single player on the Hawks list that I would give up an early/mid first for, and that they would be willing to part with at this point of a rebuild.

O'Meara the closest to the mark, but approaching 28 and with his injury history, it doesn't feel right.

His injury history isn't that bad TBF. 5 of his 7 seasons have been 18 games or more per season, the others 22,22,21,21. His lowest was 6 games in his third season with the Patella Tendon injury and the other was 12 games in his third season with the Hawks. Based on his history, we'll get two cracking seasons out of him first then he'll get injured in the third season. Thats the pattern.

Titch for a second rounder maybe but nothing more. Would prefer someone with a bit
He’s in the right age range, just no idea how he’s going to return post-injury.

Hawthorn aren’t going to let these guys go without some decent compensation either.

Interesting week ahead though. Sounds like they’re open to a hard rebuild.
They're pissed at Clarkson for winning so many at the end.

I would really be nervous about surrendering a future first for Tom Mitchell. His resume is excellent, but let’s not forget he is 30 or thereabouts, and while he doesn’t rely solely on athleticism I’m worried about paying too much. I know we gave up a first for Saad, but he is mid 20s and likely to play at a high level for another 6+ years. Cerra is a totally different case - basically just scratched the surface and will play for 10+ years. Best case scenario Mitchell would be at an elite level for another 2-3 yrs.
Maybe I’m wrong and when a former Brownlow Medallist is available you get him. But I’d be wary.
Maybe if it means they pay a large portion of his salary though..

Prior to his injury, I would have rated him the most important player on their list. Very smart player at both ends of the ground.
Reminds me of a more fit and agile Lance Whitnall in his prime.
Because he's a Ranga too???

Nah just joking....

He does have a bit of mongrel in him which I like and we could use....as long as he doesn't give free kicks away....

The problem is you forgot the 2 seasons he completely missed with injury (2015 & 2016)

Who cares?

That's right ... seriously WGAF what the media and/or other club supporter's think. Let's just row our own boat and worry about what we can control.

It's just like a horse race ... the race caller doesn't make the horses go faster or slower and neither does the media make us play better or worse !!!

I love Luke Sayers! :D

I cant tell if he is just passionate or he is trolling opposition supporters calling us a "destination club" in some of his tweets. That's sure to ruffle some feathers lol.

Ridiculous that he can’t spell Hewett though

But other than that Sayers has done a wonderful job so far
