I think they may be aspiring to get the spoon - looks like Mitchell wants to get to rock bottom first and load up on high draft picks and works his way up the ladder over 5+ years

Am I the only one who thinks this has a bit of Matty Knights about it? Replace a future HOF with a caretaker for a couple of years to soothe the membership and sponsorship base and then bring someone in of stature/caliber to elevate them quickly?

BTW I think Jeff is the only one in Australia that thinks Clarko can't coach, so I do not agree with what they've done at all.

Your opinion of his opinion about your opinion is rubbish
I really think you guys are throwing around the work rubbish too liberally here. There was a time that something considered rubbish was a container of dreams for a little child on Christmas Day.

it was that bag of mix lollies and Jaffa’s you were obsessing about on your way home from work to pair with your beverage of choice before a big game.

And finally in the wise words of Uncie Herb Simpson ‘ pizza boxes are an invaluable source of cheese.

so I have had quite enough of your reference to opinions of disagreeable content as garbage. What has garbage ever done for you huh? Think about it? And… And… when it’s outlived it’s purpose you can simply walk ourselve your house to dispose, in your b, or my preferred method of dropping on the floor and hoping it’ll go away. is then taken to hell knows where and you never have to think of it again.

For Shame!!!

edit: lol bed

In your hypothetical the following clubs would still have a stronger midfield than us:
Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Geelong,
Giants and probably the Swans, Port and the Lions. But beyond the midfield we are also building something special in our forward line and back line.

I'd take what I've listed over Geelong and Swans every day of the week and twice on sundays. Rest have claims but I reckon it's about a draw

How are you comparing midfields?

Which Geelong midfielder in your opinion is better than either Mitchell or Walsh? Which two mids at GWS are better than those two or which GWS mid is better than Walsh?

Mitchell and Walsh both finished higher in the Brownlow than Petracca.

Im not sure why people underestimate Mitchell, he’s a multiple AA, best and fairest winner and Brownlow medalist.

Even the Dogs midfield, which everyone says is the deepest, you have Bont who is better than both, but their second best mid, isn’t better than either Walsh or Mitchell.

All of this talk is leaving out Cripps, who has been poor, but is a multiple beat and fairest winner and AA

I'm not saying I support the idea but name a midfield better than Walsh, Mitchell, Cripps, Cerra, Hewett? Melbourne, sure. Probably the Dogs. I reckon that's it.

This is the disappointing thing about Teague - we're in a position where we aren't sure what we've actually got in terms of coaching and a list. If Teague had worked out, we'd be far more bullish about doing something like that.
On paper there probably aren't too many better midfielder but I really don't think trading for a 29 year old in expense for a young midfielder when we're not in a window

So Mitchell is better than Petracca because he finished higher in the Brwonlow?

Can he play on the wing - speed and endurance athlete; know he’s more of an inside mid at TAC level but he seems to have traits for a wingman.

Not sure but absolutely love this - let's hope his body is good to go for pre-season and let's find out

How about a 28 year old then?

Jokes aside, why wouldn’t we be in the window, if we had one of the best midfields in the league?

Kouta - fida- Medes got to the club as a 15 yr old and worked his way through the 3rds ,then the 2nds ,and then had a Breakout senior game halfway through season 1994 .... Two and a half years after his debut senior game in R13 1992 [1992 was awarded best and fairest in the reserves/2nds competition
but never played any consistent AFL football until 1995
so even the best of our champions developed exceptionally slowly[ countless other examples of our champions that took time to develop I,E, Bruce Doull play 3/4 years of reserves football before he was developed enough to play the senior level .... And then he became a legend of the club and AFL over 17 yrs

I think we can give Dow a bit more time to develop but I do understand that he needs to do everything he can to fast track his own performances = and I'm thinking his body is just about to develop to a standard where he can play consistently throughout games/ entire seasons
Great post Jezza

All that to move up 2 spots in the draft?
Perhaps look at it another way. If we only want to use one pick in the draft, see if we can turn that 25 into something a little higher. That suggestion has some merit, even if it is just two spots.

Not going to be popular here, given that many see Sayers as having mastered the walk on water trick, but I find this a tad cringeworthy and the second time I've seen this "destination club" intro.

Prefer to see him settle into this job rather than "troll opposition supporters" from the get go. I'm a passionate supporter but I would not be declaring this so early in the piece given our recent history. Regardless of destination club status we have a way to go before we prove worthy of that tag.

I've said before and will say it again we have handled this whole issue very badly in my opinion, I did not want Voss and I also believe that his appointment has zero to do with being a destination club, I reckon he was a fair way from the top of our hit list when we sacked Teague.

I am, however, very bullish about our future given our best trade period since Judd and we have, IMO, set things up to such an extent that Voss has far more chance of succeeding than Teague ever had with a board that has pinned their colours to him and a list improvement that is, on face value, exceptional. Anything other than well into finals will be disappointing to me.

I can happily do without tweets like this though, they just look a bit juvenile for mine.
I agree, but you need to realise his audience is not necessarily people who behave like adults.

Footy's something we're emotionally attached to. The greatest thinker among us is just as attached, emotional and illogical with regards to this as the rest of us are; there's no cold hard logic or rational pretext at play here. When it comes to footy, we're all juveniles, and no small part of me - despite how much I despise the term 'destination club' for its inanity and complete lack of meaning - quite enjoys this and those tweets.

He's talking to us at a base level because that's the part of us that follows this game.

So Mitchell is better than Petracca because he finished higher in the Brwonlow?

Firstly, I never said Mitchell was a better player than Petracca, there would be no hesitation who I’d choose if I were to have a choice. They are vastly different players.

My point in that post was, why would Sydney’s, Brisbane’s, Geelongs, even the Bulldogs and Ports midfields be better than ours, if we added Michell?

I don’t think it would be better than Melbourne’s fwiw, not unless Cripps got back to close to his best

Kouta. I actually remember the game at the end of 1992 against the Pies at Waverley. It was the last time we played the Pies there as it was deemed a health hazard by the authorities. There were 77k there officially but unofficially over 80k, easily.

I'll never forget the gasps when Kouta picked up the ball on the wing with one hand without breaking stride. Alas, Daicos kicked that ridiculous 55 metre torp to end our finals chances.
