Ryder is the first player in football history to move to a more honourable and respectable club by moving to St Kilda!!!

Played for Port Adelaide after he left Essendon.

I would be so furious at the club if Liam ended up at the scum.
If he's available, it would be petulant not to ask the question. He's not replacing Lewy, who has more than proved his value.
And it is Mitch Cleary that has brought the issue up, which makes it worthy of discussion and debate in a rumours forum.

Only way Jones can play for any club, will be based on tge AFL changing their stance on vaccinations

Personally, I wouldn't want Jones back
Are your personal reasons based on list requirements or being unforgiving to his personal stand on not vaccinating this year?

Absolutely have to move on. If he was min wage one would recruit him as a backup. But he won’t be min wage so it’s pointless. We can’t have him chewing up cap space and play him at the expense of Young. Not sure by next year he would be any better than Jones at that age anyway.

Moreso list requirements, now and moving forward

But if someone wants out of your organisation, for whatever reason, I have found that it's best to move on completely

With hospitals in Vic gearing up for a virus peak in 5 weeks time I can't see the AFL going against the government messaging on vaccinations. Dodo can dream all he wants

If Jones had stepped away from AFL(not just our organization) for 12 months for undisclosed 'personal reasons'.
And was prepared to return for 1 or 2 more seasons on a minimal wage to contend a possible premiership with old mates, replacing OMac, SDurdin and relieving JSOS and Cripps as backup ruckmen, with no guarantee of being selected.
I think most supporters would welcome him back, it's our anti-vax sulking that creates the barrier.

Oh geez, who cares where Liam Jones ends up? He‘s free to go wherever he wants and if that is * as a 32 year old, so be it. Some of our supporters have admitted to not being able to get 100% behind Adam Saad because he played for *. That’s much worse.

Fom a football perspective:

  • Liam Jones is a 31-year-old player (will be 32 before the start of next season) who relies on his athleticism to be an effective defender.
  • Jones will have been out of the AFL for 12+ months when he returns.
  • Jones will have lost access to the professional training and medical environment throughout all of this time (unlike someone who's out with a knee injury, etc. who stays in that environment for rehab)
  • There was some discussion last year over how many more seasons we could have expected Jones to be remotely close to his best (general consensus was 1-2 years, some saying he'd be okay to 33-34)

If we factor in those points, the likelihood of Jones coming back into the AFL system at 32 years of age having lost what he had for 12+ months and getting to the standard he was at prior is extremely low.

Quite honestly, I'd rather have Sam Durdin on the list next year than Liam. Give me the younger, hungrier, footballer who hasn't got the question marks over him as t whether or not he can perform to the level he once did.

When you rely on your athleticism and it's not to the level it once was it ends very quickly.

I respect your football-analytical reasons for not welcoming Jonesy back in a temporary form, but only time will tell whether SDurdin or OMac ever reach his talent. (1 has done nothing yet and the other's played about 2.5 games for us in 2 seasons)
To answer your other point. No I'm vaccinated, and unfortunately have a significant medical history file myself.
But I'm certainly not narrow-minded enough to judge my friends and others for their beliefs.

I hope for Liam, that he does play again if that's his dream

Would also enjoy if he did go to *, as it would just reinforce that they are still delusional in thinking they are a chance to win a flag in the near future

Their argument would be that he'll help fast track their young talls (of which half their list is young talls or so it feels).

My feelings towards that it is that Jones isn't going to be the type who will do that. They'd point to what he did for Jacob and I'd suggest Jacob was going to be Jacob regardless of who he was playing with.

Maybe I'm the one missing something but I just don't see it working out well for them.

I must admit I’m staggered people would prefer to back in someone like Durdin (or his equal) over someone like Jones when we are right in our premiership window. He is pretty much the exact same age as a player like Grimes who also relies on his closing speed and hasn’t really had injury worries so that wouldn’t faze me one bit.

l am equally amazed people would still want Jones back when Young has done such a fantastic job this year, he has much more upside than Jones at his age.
The last period with Weitering out has really shown has much Young has to offer long term in a key defence role.

Jones made the call and we have moved on, also have this year's draft to add younger developing talls.
