Sometimes I do th

I live in the Geelong area and I do think the 'go-home' factor for Geelong boys is a bit over-stated. No doubt there are some eager to get home but living only an hour away in Melbourne in the heart of football is preferable for some than moving back to sleepy hollow. Jono Brown, Luke Hodge, Jordan Lewis to name a few old boys that stayed away. As you say, Sammy Walsh and Chuck Curnow playing regularly in front of 40-50K plus crowds don't seem in any hurry.

Even if Bruhn did want to get to Geelong they still have to be able to do the deal.

I should have added more to my post that Geelong boys from Melbourne clubs are less likely to move to Geelong than a Geelong player from an interstate club. But it’s all moot really, Bruhn might love GSW so much that he is in it for the long-term or would rather a big Melbourne club. If he wants out of GSW, our club might ask the question.

If any player, not just Ginnivan uses their prior opportunity time (that they are granted to get rid of the ball) to actually try and milk a free kick then they should be pinged!!! Ginnivan is especially at fault, as he usually tucks the ball under one arm like a rugby player does when they are about to fend off an opposition player with their free arm, but he ends up using that free arm to push the tacklers arm up around his neck to help win the free while not even trying to move the ball on, so he gives up his chance to get rid of the pill in my book and should therefore be punished!!! Why should he get away with hanging onto the ball while trying to win a gold medal for diving?!!
Just a thought. Can we train the tackler to delay their tackle for a few seconds for the players such as Ginnivan? Let them drop to the ground and then grab them for a HTB? Ginnivan is not a difficult one to spot on the ground. Might be tough to train out the insticts of the tackler maybe. Would make these players look a bit stupid and think twice about playing for a free kick rather than just playing.

I think he has been pretty underwhelming. Can't see where he would get a game at Carlton. When GWS already had a stacked midfield it seemed a dumb pick taking a vanilla mid. Another player that is not going to get a game, get frustrated and move home.
He is still a young mid making his way in the AFL. He has the attributes for sure, but not a consistent part of their 22. Might because of that stacked midfield and playing off the HFF or wing...

Must say, when they took a mid first in that draft it did surprise me. Not a whole lot of talls later in that 2020 draft, but with Cameron also being traded that year, I thought they might try a bit harder to package all those picks up to have a crack at Logan McDonald etc...

All in hindsight...

They would have been better off taking Oliver Henry , Max Holmes or Nathan Chapman rather than taking a mid and playing him out of position given they were gifted Green the year before. Especially given that he talls were all taken in the top 10.

For sure. All in hindsight though.

Maybe it's also a bit of evidence that they were bit worried about their some of their more established mids (at the time) were looking at moving clubs. Williams was leaving. J Kelly didn't sign till mid 2021, and there's been the talk around Taranto heading home.

This is the second midfielder GWS have picked in the teens that is leaving after the minimum 2 years. They still have stacks of good mids. They need to look at other parts of the ground where they are lacking.

Good thing it's looking like they will have a top 5 pick to draft a key tall with hey :tearsofjoy:

Thanks for the info

Always rated Sholl, but given he is contracted till 2024, is there any interest in a guy like Hinge?

Also, any news/names in terms of cheap tall options?
I'm hoping we're having a look at Fraser Rosman - 20yo 194cm wingman - athletic beast.

Uncontracted the end of 2022, but you'd expect the Dee's to re-sign him at some stage. Wouldn't hurt to ask though.

Had never been on an AFL list before us.
Relevance?

Either you trust who we have in recruitment to identify talent/potential or you don't. We have every reason to be a good deal more confident these days than we used to.

At multiple points over the last two-three years, we've been bottom 4. Are you telling me that Matthew Kennedy (who couldn't get a game for us when we were bottom 4) was also 'buyer beware'? What about Harry McKay, who was held in the reserves until Bolton thought he was ready? Jarryd Lyons couldn't get a consistent game for Adelaide. Will Brodie couldn't get a game at GC.

If you don't like Scholl, that's your prerogative. Make your argument on a basis other than team or ladder based disparagement, please.

Y u do dis?

I feel like donuts now.

:yum:

:yum:

Just got one at my work!

Matt Kennedy and LOB couldn't get a game a year ago. When coaches don't rate you it can be hard to change their minds.
bang - new scenery, atmosphere, people, support staff, attitudes, training regimes, expectations, game plan - whole new world..........
