I would rather Jack Elliot Back. His motto
"Carlton Respects....Winning"

The guy who took over the club from a dominant position (3 premierships in 5 years, 5 in 13, strong financially), and left us with our first wooden spoon, facing massive penalties for cheating, financially on the brink, our home stadium a noose around our neck and with our football department an utter shambles.... that's the guy you want?

Big Jack and his cheque book at the state of origin games. Our last flag was the last hurrah of that system. Still trying to master the 'new' system.

Premierships. There is an aspect to Jack the club needs

So morals are being overly emotional?
And recruiters must be heinous in order to recruit talent?
Didn't Sos recruit LOB? ( might be wrong!)
Isn't SOS hard edged enough for you? And he sure picked some soft recruits.
You need to think things through Lace Out! You need brains skills leadership and people management.
You need mongrel.

SOS picked some howlers. I always thought he went too safe as his son/sons were at the club, and he was being over cautious on characters he brought in.

Was good at picking KP types, maybe being one himself but horrendous at picking mids.

Jack's problem was that he was president for too long 83-02, nobody should serve 20 years in that job. He was incapable of adapting to the changes to the way that football clubs operated when the time came to do so.

He was a good president in his first years and it gets a bit tiresome of people talking of us taking great players from interstate etc when every VFL club had a bunch of those type players on their lists. It's easy to target Carlton as we were such a successful club. We also had a lot of home grown champions. The fact is we were a very good club for a long time.

I'm proud to be associated with Carlton, always will be regardless of mistakes that have or haven't been made along the way. Presidents, Coaches, Players all come and go, my love is for the Club, not just for the team.

No other club had a haul approaching Jacks pre salary cap spending spree of Kernahan, Bradley, Motley, Dorotich and Naley. Sorry if you find it tiresome to read about. We all love Carlton, that's why we waste time on the internet talking about it. Big Jack unfortunately tarnished his early presidency with the latter years, and a lot of smart operators left the club within a few years of one another.

Sorry, but most of those players you mentioned weren't lured by big bags of cash. Kernahan signed on as a 16 year old for very little as a prime example, also he wasn't signed up by Elliot, he was signed in 81, before he was President. This is how these stories become distorted which is very tiresome to read.

As far as the 'no other club' statement you made goes I'd suggest you go and check the Hawthorn team which was so successful in the 80's.
The part you did get right is that Elliot's latter years were bad and tarnished his achievements in his early years. The rest is just the diatribe that has been pushed by media and so easily accepted by even our own supporters these days.

Sticks played his first game in 86, same as the others. He had a long standing agreement, so did Platten with us and Bradley with Essendon. Jack loaded up before the draft and cap came in to place. Remember it differently if you wish.

So, now we are saying Kernahan was recruited by Jack because he first played when he was President? I remember it as it actually was, he was signed by us 5 years earlier and as soon as he achieved his stated goal of winning a premiership with Glenelg, he made the move to Vic. Anyway, my point stands, every VFL club had a contingent of Interstate players, because those players wanted to play in the best competition. We were a 'destination' club as we were successful and that attracted players to us as well.

If Tarryn Thomas is the answer, what's the question?

Seriously we are desperate but surely not that desperate
