Worked out alright for them the last time they did it. Geelong would have to produce the goods.
So Port are going to win next years flag?
Does anyone have Jamiee from Sportsbet number so I can get on them whilst there odds are nice and juicy just like Jamiee

Good. Go Boaky and have fantastic career at a fantastic, strong football club. I wish you well. We can't offer you want you want at Port.

To Port Power,

Don't you dare let Boaky off without getting what you/we deserve for him. He was a top ten draft pick (let's not talk about who was one pick after Travis) and the trade needs to be of supremely high quality. You list should be as follows.

1. Mitch Duncan and a late pick
2. Allan Christenson and a mid pick
3. George Horlin-Smith and a mid pick
4. Cameron Guthrie and a mid pick and a rookie pick
5. Daniel Menzel and a mid pick and a rookie pick

Do not settle for anything less than one of these players - he is worth this. The time is now where Port can make a stance around Boaky's future, either you get want you want or Geelong don't get what they want - remember Nick Stevens?

Anyone of these players can be a 10 year player and a future superstar for Port Power if you can make it happen. Play hard ball because if you don't supporters (such as myself) will be more disorientated with the direction of the club that we already are.

Port would be totally within their rights to ask for any of those deals, considering they'll be losing one of their better players. That being said, Geelong won't be giving up Menzel, Christensen or Duncan and I'd be very surprised if they were willing to part with the others either.

That's the main thing damaging the trade, I think, and something that can probably only be sorted by getting another club involved in some kind of three-way-deal. Port are within their rights to ask for a lot but Geelong, despite wanting Boak, won't be willing to give up one of their more promising youngsters as part of the deal.

Realistically I think the best they'll offer is something like Ablett compo pick + Gillies / Hogan / somesuch youngish VFL player and I just don't know if that will get the deal done.

Supertramp has a song you should listen to...."Dreamer... nothing but a dreamer..."

You will not get 1, 2 4 or 5.
You might get Hypen and a 2nd pick.

You might also get and First and second and a rookie player.

You might also get SFA if he leaves on his own valition at seasons end and he ends up anywhere but Geelong.

Geelong will offer fair and reasonable value.

Go Catters

Yikes, you know your Geelong players. Do you have Menzel at the bottom of the list due to his knees? Because he's as talented as any of them.

TBH I wouldn't like to see any of those deals done, would rather miss out on Boak.

Why a sweetener?
A first round pick for a B grade midfielder is more than enough - Port will be laughing all the way to the draft.
So he is worth the equivalent of Prismall? Yeah nah. Boak is not a B grader he is an A grader not elite like Selwood but certainly the equivalent of Kelly or Corey at a similar age. As much as we like to rate our own players he is better than Duncan and Bundy at their relevant stages of their career.

Boak has had an injury hampered year but I can't work out why we insist on underrating him. I can guarantee if we get a deal done it will come at a substantial cost one that supporters might initially not be happy with.

Still I think Boak will be a very good player for us and will be well worth it in the end.

What are you smoking over there?
Duncan, Christensen and Menzel will never be traded. Boak just aint worth it.

Trade week will be interesting. I can see a big stalemate why everyone waits for the Boak cards to fall. I can't see Geelong offerring anything more than their first round pick and a player they don't need. At least that's about what Boak is wirth on performances to date. If Geelong do convince to come to Geelong though they will be uinder some pressure to get the deal done/. If Port are unreasonable though they might get nothing and prove the same point that did with Stevens - whatever that was. Melbourne would be waiting with a contract already negotiated just as Carlton were last time.

Why shouldn't you give up something good to get the player your club needs?

IIRC, the Cats tried to trade Menzel for Boak last year.

You're right to want to hold onto your good players, but a lot of these players aren't better than Boak. The Port player hasn't had the luxury of playing with a side as good as Geelong. You would have been called nuts if you had knocked back signing Boak by trading the pick used to draft Guthrie, Duncan or Christensen. Good young players, but some of these trades are on par with a Carlton supporter saying no to trading Lucas for a better footballer.

Carlton and other clubs will be interested to keep the Cats honest. The price will go up once other clubs offer their first pick and a good player.
Perhaps because he has more moral fibre than Chris "Visy Ambassador" Judd and a club that thought it could buy its way to a premiership, so he feels a sense of loyalty to help Port Adelaide fight its way back?
No different to Port taking Wanganeen who went home.

You have to hate a superstar choosing to go home and play for a bottom two club instead of a top eight side like Boak.

No, you don't recall this correctly.

Menzel was in red-hot form leading into last year's finals. He had kicked 7 goals in five quarters against Collingwood and Hawthorn before he did his knee in the second quarter of the qualifying final. There's no doubt that he was cemented in our best 22 and would have played in a premiership side if not for injury. You do not trade talented first-round picks that are well and truly living up to expectations, unless they don't want to be at the club. Menzel re-signed in May.

Menzel is extremely highly rated at Geelong, and he's untouchable in terms of trade despite the fact he's recovering from his second ACL in 12 months.

Source? The only mention of Menzel being traded was by media jockeys speculating about a deal for Dangerfield earlier this year, given he's a SA boy.

Geelong responded by re-signing Menzel shortly after.

The best part is this guy actually sounds serious.
The best part is that i am.

Whats he on? $2mil/year at GCS?

GAB Jr will be 29 at the start of next season.
P Dangerfield will be 23 start of next season.
R Sloane will be 23 at start of next season.
S Thomson will be 30 at start of next season.
B Crouch will be 19 at start of next season. (look him up, expected to be as good as dangerfield)

we can have all 4 of those players and still get change from 2 mill a year.

Irrespective of your midfield no sane person would rather Phil Davis than GAJ.
Well, except yourself I guess...
