**** off Sheeds

The selection panel recommended Scott and the rest of the board accepted their recommendations except for Sheedy. Board members have a duty to the club and by rejecting the recommendations of the panel simply because Hird's done a lot of stuff at Essendon in the past is a blatant abdication of that responsibility. His job was to vote on the next coach, not who is the most Essendon person.

On Hird - you go into any job interview process completely unaware of who else is applying and how good they might be. It should have been obvious to all applying that they might not be the successful candidate. It should also be obvious that the panel would recommend a candidate and the board should back that recommendation - assuming they trust the panel which they established in the first place. If Hird has cracked the sads at not being the preferred candidate after 8 years out of the game (and the baggage he brings) then he is unquestionably not suited to the job.

Just to be clear on something, RoCo.

If I go back to your dumb podcast 4 to 5 weeks ago was Barham the future then? Was his single mindedness applauded?

All good if the answers are yes.
From what I can remember he was actually somewhat pro Barham— Barham is well respected in the media and RoCo is nothing if not media, so there’s history there and he knows Barham better than we do with our 2 press conferences and 4 president letters in the last month.

The board spill itself and the sacking of Rutten that got dragged out for over a week, I don’t think he was a fan, even if he respected Barham as an operator — though he did wrap his head around the potential of Clarkson fairly quickly before it was binned five days later.

Not a fan of Campbell. Not a fan of secret extensions. Not a fan of a club that doesn’t seem to give a fig about its members beyond how much money they can wring out of them to attend a club function and occasionally letting them sit in the mud at an open training session.

And he was very pro-process, so if this looks like a process that has been done properly then Barham’s going to also have runs on the board with RoCo for walking the walk and not just talking about it. Moreso if he gets a chance to tell the external review what he thinks.

I don’t recall his previous stance on Sheedy as a board member but I don’t think he was on the Hird bandwagon.

Wouldn't it just have been a vote to endorse or reject the panel recommendation of Brad Scott? It wasn't vote involving Hird was it.

Possibly all is well that ends well, though. When Sheedy wasn't getting his contract extended at the end of 07, he commented about how the sacking of long term Melbourne coach, Norm Smith, had put that club in the doldrums. Sheedy going public like this as a board member ultimately might put some post Sheedy the coach wind in the club sails. Who knows. Didn't like the Truck sacking, didn't want Clarkson, interesting times ahead. Go Brad and the boys.

People like to think Sheedy is some master manipulator. He isn’t. He’s just shitty old man now. That piece going around saying his comments on Clarkson were genius because he had inside word and wanted Clarkson to steer clear of Essendon was absolute BS. He wanted Clarkson to steer clear because he wanted Hird as coach, wouldn’t have had a clue what was coming.

Sheedy was a great coach and game innovator in an era that has long since passed and now I just don’t see what he has to offer if he is going to carry on like this. Football is ruthless and we say that with regards to cutting players from lists, this shouldn’t be any different.

Also side note, but it feels kind of weird that a leading candidate for CEO is also doing our review?

I listen most weeks & this about right I reckon, was big on the club stuffing up/being late to the Clarkson party & Trucks appointment not being handled properly. Hated X I suspect.

This is completely unacceptable from Kevin. I've posted extensively on this forum that Brad Scott wasn't my preferred candidate for the role. However, now that the decision has been made, we all need to accept the decision of the board and support the club. I'm a nuffy and even I understand that on the day the new coach is unveiled the club needs to present a united front and be looking positively to the future.

For Kevin to come out and make this statement at anytime shows that he's not ready to be a member of the board, to do it today shows that he never will be.

Poor form from Sheedy on a day that finally had a positive outcome. Love him but he is becoming too divisive. Just needed to keep quiet and let it be about the club for a day. Could be time for him to go.

Makes you wonder how much negative influence he is having behind the scenes.

If he loved Hird so much he would have said nothing, suddenly he has dragged him into the headlines too, for all the wrong reasons. Not hearing anything from Hird, he is smarter than that.
