Unsavoury character. Has a bit of a whiff about him.

This may be so, but the story (as reported anyway) really does portray him as an innocent victim this time. I think the biggest problem the AFL/ASADA are going to have is what to do about all the players who have genuinely tried to make sure what they're taking is legal, but have been lied to. The next question is what about the players who haven't made the enquiries, but if they had they would have been lied to anyway...

Let me guess those stories involve him allegedly using recreational drugs. Whoopdy freaking doo. Recreational drugs are just as prevelant in the afl as it is in society.

Where as something like domestic violence, not on.

i dont see this as a problem for the AFL/ASADA. it's a problem for the players and the people that lied to them. But for the AFL/ASADA it has to be clear cut. you took the substance, you get banned. That ban would be reduced if they openly admit to what happened and assist with the investigation.

it's tough, but it's the only way unfortunately.

It's not very tough actually, if ASADA / AFL don't give harsh penalties everone will start bending the rules. If any player is found guilty they should serve a 2 year ban, no extenuating circumstances, no 'i didn't know what I was taking'. Players that are on up to $1 Million per season should really be responsible for what they take and should be more diligent on having substances tested before taking them, not after they get caught.

Their seems to be a feeling out there that the players should be protected because its a team thing. Lance Armstrong was part of a team, "I didn't know what I was taking" would not be an acceptable excuse for him. Olympians, National team, same thing. If "I didn't know what I was taking" becomes an acceptable excuse for athletes nobody will be found guilty ever again.

Then at essendon they started getting players to sign consent forms?
.

Did they provide there players with significant resources (or where to find them) to make an educated decision on what they were being injected with?

Consent forms? that would be an interpretation? especially from those those not familiar with the ins and outs of doping.

I wouldn't expect a bank robber not to wear a balaklava. Unless he was really really dumb.

If I were an AFL player, essentially being paid to lift weights and keep myself in peak physical condition, I'd start asking a lot of questions when I was told that my team wanted me to be injected with substances designed for anti-obesity purposes.

Sorry mate - not sure I follow.

But here is my thought process - with some facts that obviously need verifying.

Dank/Robinson at Gold Coast late 2010. Players, at least Bock, taking some stuff that they didn't know what it was and may have been dodgy - Bock at least coming forward and expressing concerns about it now, saying he didn't know what he was taking - 'described to him as an amino acid'.
Dank/Robinson moved on from GC early 2011 (can anyone verify/disprove this?) - media fairly clearn it was nov-feb, but can't find reference to them being 'moved on' in Feb or it was just a short term contract. I have vague memories of them being 'moved on' based on previous reporting.

Essendon hire Dank/Robinson. Start the bombers on a programme of supplements.
This time though - they get the players to sign NDA's (sorry not consent forms) which, based on recent reports, actually list the drugs being taken.

As I said - at least Dank/Robinson appear to be doing their due diligence.. Essendon however....

Not the sharpest tool in the shed old Bocky. Just thankful he wasn't at the Crows when this happened.
I think this is about right.

Bocky can play footy, but he isn't any Rutten when it comes to smarts!
