PRIORITY PICKS

1. Marc Murphy (Oakleigh Chargers/Victoria) – Carlton
Position: Inside Midfielder Height: 179cm Weight: 75kg
Carlton are basically in desperate need of midfielders (among a whole heap of others types of players) and would like to add some skill into their side. With the likes of Camporale set to leave the Blues would want like to add to their midfield stocks. Marc is an excellent all round footballer, has great footy smarts, terrific kick – goes both short and long (50m+), can also go in the forward line & kicks goals and can break the game apart. Murphy is probably the safest option to go with too. Only downside would be that he is small midfielder at 179cm.

2. Xavier Ellis (Gippsland Power/Victoria) – Collingwood
Position: Wingmen/HBF Height: 186cm Weight: 72kg
Collingwood primary needs are midfielders and then a key backman. They have stated would be looking to add pace to their midfield. Xavier Ellis is a midfielder and sometimes plays off the backline. He is a bit lanky but very versatile. Xavier has a fabulous left foot kick and hits his targets with precision. Also some speed to burn. Excellent footy brain and does well under pressure. Ellis is a fantastic overhead mark too. However, Xavier would need to bulk up, otherwise he would get bumped of the ball easily in the AFL.

3. Josh Kennedy (East Fremantle/West Australia) - Hawthorn
Position: Key Position Height: 195cm Weight: 92kg
Hawks will be looking to add some depth to their spine. Even though they recruited Roughead and Franklin last year, they will be looking to find a replacement for Hay. Kennedy plays primarily as a forward but would be able to go and play in defence. Good leap and good contested mark. Great size key-position player and he is physically built, so he would almost be able to walk into a side. Kennedy is by far the best KPP in the draft.

FIRST ROUND

4. Beau Dowler (Oakleigh Chargers/Victoria) – Carlton
Position: FF/CHF Height: 195cm Weight: 84kg
Carlton will be looking for talls, ruckman, midfielder – essentially the lot in the draft! Pick Murphy with their first pick they would be looking to secure then best available tall here. Beau Dowler would be a good choice for Carlton. Even though Carlton aren’t looking for other forwards, Dowler would be able to release talls into the backline. Dowler is an excellent kick, quick off the mark when leading, good contested mark and accurate too. One of the best overhead marks out of this years draftees & is quite mobile and athletic for his height. Would need to improve on his 1 percenters and improve his defensive work. Beau will become a good forward if he keeps up his work ethic. In the TAC Cup he has been averaging just over 2 goals a game, 16 disposals and 7 marks a game. Sometimes struggles with a good defender checking him. Note: Dowler was injured in a car crash couple of weeks back medical reports have shown there isn’t much to worry about.

5. Shannon Hurn (Central Districts/South Australia) - Collingwood
Position: Midfield/HBF Height: 187cm Weight: 96kg
Collingwood have stated that they are after midfielder and fast ones too. Hurn has a huge kick, good overhead mark, loves the hardball get, works well under pressure leadership qualities but he isn’t overly quick. The only thing you might question about Hurn is, if he has much scope for improvement, he doesn’t get much possession of the ball and is standing at 187cm & 96kg a good thing? It was rumoured that he had osteitis pubis this year. Rumour mill is hinting that the Pies might go for Dale Thomas with pick 5.

6. Patrick Ryder (East Fremantle/Western Australia) - Hawthorn
Position: Ruck/KPP Height: 196cm Weight: 86kg
Ryder will help add to both Hawthorn’s ruck and key position stocks. Patrick has great skills and to add to it his ruck work in the under 18’s championship was hard to ignore – always managing to get first use of the ball. Ryder is athletic and you could probably compare him to Sydney’s Adam Goodes. The cons for Ryder is that he doesn’t seen to accumulate too many possessions around the ground and that he is a bit short to ruck for AFL level. However, the case with is rucking is that he is a bottom age player, so he would still have a few centimetres of growth & currently standing at 196cm, which is 1cm tall than Melbourne’s ruck Jeff White.

7. Darren Pfeiffer (Norwood/South Australia) - Essendon
Position: Midfield/HBF Height: 186cm Weight: 84kg
Essendon will be looking to secure midfielders and key position players. There has been debate whether Essendon will take a midfielder or KPP with this pick, but we won’t know until Saturday. I’ve gone with the midfield pick, however other players Essendon will be looking at here are Nathan Jones, Andrew Swallow, Mitch Clarke and any of Ryder, Kennedy & Dowler if they slip. Pfeiffer is physically built and ready to set into any AFL side and could start playing next season. Darren has great athletic ability, polished skills, great leap, got speed, a bit of x-factor about him and he loves the hard stuff – very courageous. The only thing he would have to improve on is to make sure he doesn’t blast away immediately but rather so take a bit more time for decision making.

8. Mitch Clark (East Fremantle/Western Australia) - Richmond
Position: Forward/Ruck Height: 197cm Weight: 90kg
Carnival was just plain old rubbish and he has had a disappointing year, in all. Suppose to be a good mark. Very Athletic. Talented boy no doubt, just needs to get his attitude in whack, Wallace would be the right man for the job.

9. Marcus Drum (Murray Bushrangers/Victoria) – Brisbane
Position: Half Back Height: 190cm Weight: 80kg
Brisbane are primarily in need of defenders, post Leppitsch & Michael era and they will be looking for midfielders too. Marcus Drum would easily fit the role of Chris Scott – maybe not as tough but skill wise just as good. Drum, nephew of Damian, is just too good to pass on with this pick. Drum just oozes class, good leap, smart footballer, rebounding flanker, leadership. Cons are that he is an in-between height and not exceedingly quick.

10. Jarred Oakley-Nicholls (East Perth/Western Australia) – Fremantle
Position: Midfield Height: 186cm Weight: 74kg
Fremantle’s needs are midfielders that can break a game and that have a bit of flair. Oakley-Nicholls fits this category well and is a local boy so he would appeal to the Dockers more so than someone like Thomas. Oakley-Nicholls is versatile – plays tall and small. Jarred is very quick over first 20m. Needs to get into the game more because he can go missing for long periods in the game. And like some other players he needs to bulk up.

11. Cleave Hughes (Norwood/South Australia) – Bulldogs
Position: Key Forward Height: 192cm Weight: 84kg
Bulldogs are crying for a key forward, as they have been play short throughout the year in their forward line. Hughes could prove to be a fantastic choice in years to come for the Dogs and he is the best available tall with this pick. Raw skills but will improve as he plays more games. Bit skinny but most kids are at his age. Strong & long arms for pack marks. Good mark. Leads well. Made his mark in the under 18s carnival. Hughes made the All-Australian U/18s CHF.

12. Andrew Swallow (East Fremantle/Western Australia) – Melbourne
Position: Midfield Height: 183cm Weight: 77kg
Melbourne have stated that they are after “hard-nosed” midfielders on draft day. Swallow is both quick and a tough-nut. In and under midfielder, likes to go in and dish the footy out. Needs to improve drastically on his kicking – kicking style is a bit like Stanton. Melbourne may also look at Nathan Jones here.

13. Paul Bower (Peel Thunder/Western Australia) – West Coast
Position: Key Position Height: 192cm Weight: 87kg
West Coast needs talls as evident from Grand Final – likes of Lynch, McDougall and Gardiner are not having a dominate presence as the Eagles would like. Bower would hopefully be able to add some depth into the Eagles tall department. Some have said they might go for a midfielder but I reckon their number one priority is key position. Bower is an attacking CHB with natural rebounding skills, kicking isn’t bad but needs to be polished. Paul moves well for someone of his size. Would appeal to the Weagles because he is from WA too.

14. Dale Thomas (Gippsland Power/Victoria) – Hawthorn
Position: Midfielder/HFF Height: 182cm Weight: 76kg
Hawthorn are after someone that is explosive who can break a game open. Thomas is quick, huge leap, has a nous for goal and has clean hands. Dale was fantastic in the TAC Cup Grand Final and won best on ground, made TAC Team of the Year as Wing, made All-Australian U/18’s HFF. Draft Camp results for beep test and 3km run were disappointing, however.

15. Nathan Jones (Dandenong Stingray/Victoria) – Geelong
Position: Midfielder Height: 179cm Weight: 84kg
Geelong are after the best available and if a key position comes along it will be a bonus for them. Jones is a work-horse like midfielder, his draft camp results show that he can keep running, even though he isn’t very quick. Jones presented his dominance to scouts during the U/18’s Championships and was named All-Australian rover. Jones is a tough –nut midfielder, uses the ball well, disposes the ball very well under pressure. Jones is ready to play AFL next year but some would argue he is a bit short for midfield, however you would find he is about the same height as Mark Johnson, Ben Cousins, Shane Crawford, Jason Johnson and etc.

16. Richard Douglas (Calder Cannons/Victoria) – Adelaide
Position: Midfielder Height: 180cm Weight: 68kg
Adelaide will be looking for to grab some young midfielders for their ageing midfield consisting of Goodwin, Ricciuto, McLeod & etc. And Richard Douglas fits the Bill, A Reliable Midfielder with good pace and outstanding agility, In a couple of years, after a bit of bulking up, Douglas could slot into the Collingwood midfield or half back line. Although being quite slightly built, Douglas had an outstanding 2005. Graduating from the Calder Cannons back line early in the season, he became one of the premier midfielders of the TAC cup throughout the season, averaging more than 27 disposals per game. An inside player who carries the ball and disposes of it well, Agility is a big part of his game, and his uncanny ability to be able to manoeuvre his way out of packs stands out. Richard capped off his 2005 season by earning the TAC coaches award, Vic Metro honours, and the Calder Cannons B+F. Richard also had quite a good draft camp measuring in the top 15% in speed, Agility and endurance tests. At 68 Kg’s, Richard is definitely not AFL ready, and may need a year or two in the Gym. But Richard’s ability to play tall is huge advantage and would be a big plus to any club that recruits him.

17. Travis Varcoe (Central Districts/South Australia) – Adelaide
Position: Midfield/Forward Height: 179cm Weight: 72kg
Varcoe is another one who fits the bill as a possible replacement in the future for Adelaide’s ageing midfield. I haven’t personally seen him play but by reports. From FootyDraft: Blistering pace, agility, Very good defensively, High skill level, Was considered a good chance of playing senior SANFL for most of the season before injury. Cons (FD): Foot injury this season, and unlikely to start pre-season until Christmas & Fairly skinny build. Varcoe was talked up as a top 10 pick prior to his foot injury and would be ideal for Adelaide and he does appeal to them because he is a local boy.

18. Beau Muston (Murray Bushrangers/Victoria) – Hawthorn
Position: Midfielder Height: 189cm Weight: 79kg
After the Hawks have picked KPP with their first two picks they would be looking to get some midfielders on board. Muston would be an excellent choice for the Hawks. Even though he recovering from a knee reconstruction, he was playing excellent footy before he did his knee. Muston was averaging 25 possessions a game. Beau is a great overhead mark, disposal is good and has a knack for goal. If he does recover from his knee reco he could be a great AFL players in years to come.

19. Wayde Mills (Southport/Queensland) – Essendon
Position: CHB Height: 196cm Weight: 88kg
As stated earlier Essendon are after tall prospects and to a lesser extent midfielders. Essendon will more than likely take a KPP with this pick if they use the previous one on a midfielder. Mills reads the play well, stays close to his man, punches the ball well, great size for a CHB, likes body on body work. Wayde also has good leadership skills. Other players Essendon might look at here are Higgins, Spangher, Lucy and Birchall.

SECOND ROUND

20. Shaun Higgins (Geelong Falcons/Victoria) – Carlton
Position: Inside Midfielder Height: 183cm Weight: 79kg
Higgins is a natural in-and-under midfielder. Fantastic foot and hand skills. Can play in the forward line, when resting and kick goals. Like some of the others he isn’t too quick but uses his footy instincts to get the ball. Might see him go a bit earlier on draft day.

21. Scott Pendlebury (Gippsland Power/Victoria) – Collingwood
Position: Wing Height: 188cm Weight: 82kg
Brother of Kris, on Bendigo’s VFL List. Scott has awesome agility, moves around opponents very well, could be from basketball. Has a good left foot kick . Would have a lot things to improve on because of he only just started to take footy seriously in recent years. Athletic ability is great as seen at AFL Draft Camp. More of the outside type. Averaged 23 possession in the TAC throughout the year.

22. Tom Rischbieth (Sturt/South Australia)- Hawthorn
Position: Forward Height: 190cm Weight: 83.5kg
Hawks have a hole at CHF, with Williams playing deep and no-one of quality in front of him to feed him, Hawks will be looking to secure this roaming CHF to fill that void. Tom is roaming forward with outstanding endurance and leadership beyond his years. The Captain of the Sturt reserves is also a good overhead marks and shot for goal. Rischbieth Capped off he season by being named SA vice captain before he annihilated the previous 3km run record at the draft camp. His height may concern a few clubs but Hawks Richmond should snaffle him here.

23. Austin Lucy (Caloundra/Queensland) – Collingwood
Position: Full Back Height: 193cm Weight: 91kg
Collingwood will be looking for a key position player for their defence, for both now and post Wakelin. The likes of T Walker and others aren’t able to hold down CHB. Malthouse might be able to turn Lucy into a CHB if he wants too. Lucy who is originally from a ruby background, is physically ready to play AFL footy. Lucy is a quick, attacking defender, reads play well and good one on one. Arms are shorter than other defenders as seen at draft camp, needs to work on punching and needs to back himself to kick the ball long.

24. Ben McKinley (Northern Knights/Victoria) – Richmond
Position: Forward Height: 184cm Weight: 80kg
Richmond will be looking for another avenue to goal other than Richo and Brown, they struggled a lot in that department when Nathan Brown broke his leg. McKinley the TAC U/18’s leading goal kicker (71 goals) and should give the Tigers more depth. McKinley is a great overhead mark, good kick, moves through traffic well, goes in hard and loves to goal. McKinley’s downsides are that he is too short for full-forward at AFL, needs to bring up his endurance and speed.

25. Matthew Spangher (Eastern Ranges/Victoria) – Brisbane
Position: CHB Height: 193cm Weight: 83 kg
Brisbane will be looking to draft another defender for the post Leppitsch & Michael era. Spangher has proved himself at TAC level & did well in the Championships (kept the likes of M Clark quiet). Spangher plays on his man, barely lets anything pass him, good kick, versatile, draft camp result for 3km shows he has good endurance but he isn’t too quick off the mark. Needs to learn to kick on his left foot and he has a injury history. But overall whoever drafts him will have a decent replacement for someone in defence.

26. Grant Birchall (Devonport/Tasmania) – Fremantle
Position: Wing/Half Back Height: 192cm Weight: 84kg
Birchall should fit Fremantle’s game plan and play of HBF, just like Mundy. Birchall plays tall for his position but like Kepler Bradley at Essendon he could be moulded into a KPP. Birchall is tall, moves well for a big man, big kick but it’ll miss some of the time. Needs to work on his decision making and he is seen like an outside type.

27. Courtney Dempsey (Morningside/Queensland) – Western Bulldogs
Position: Midfield Height: 186cm Weight: 70kg
Dempsey lightning quick and talented aboriginal footballer from Queensland, looks set for a good AFL career because he does have the skills and craft for it. Some say he is a risky pick-up, however I think otherwise he is an exciting and gifted footballer with great skills.

28. Alan Obst (Central Districts/South Australia) – Kangaroos
Position: Tall Defender Height: 193cm Weight: 82kg
The Kangaroos will use their first pick for a tall backmen as a replacement for the recent departure of Leigh Colbert. Obst won’t be able to play footy immediately but will be a project player. Punches the ball well and sticks on his opponent.

29. Daniel Dzufer (Caloundra/Queensland) – West Coast
Position: Wing/Half Forward Height: 189cm Weight: 80kg
- midfielder that has a good kick

30. Luke McEntee (North Adelaide/South Adelaide) – Port Adelaide
Position: Ruckman Height: 197cm Weight: 87kg
- the best tap ruckman out of the draftees
- port need someone to replace the recently retired Primus
- strong mark
- very quick for someone his size but his endurance isn’t very good

31. Daniel Stanley (Geelong Falcons/Victoria) – Geelong
Position: HBF/HFF Height: 186cm Weight: 89cm
- Great overhead mark
- moves well for his “big” size
- physically built to play AFL
- kicking needs work on

32. Jace Bode (Sturt/South Australia) – Adelaide
Position: Centre/Wing Height: 186cm Weight: 84kg
- tough nut centreman
- knows how to find the ball
- polished skills, hits target with precision

33. Alan Toovey (Claremont/Western Australia) – St Kilda
Position: Defender Height: 189cm Weight: 79kg
The Saints would want to pick a running defender such as Alan Toovey as they defence is getting weary. Drafting Toovey would be looking at helping their defence in the future. Toovey has good pace, reads the play well and is a good solid player. Never really dominates a game but doesn’t let his opponent get the better of him. Downside is his in-between height.

34. Lucas Markovic (Eastern Ranges/Victoria) – West Coast
Position: KPP
Good in contested mark situations. Excellent kick. Troubled with injuries. West Coast will be looking to get him, as an answer to their tall forward problems and he could also be handy in to backline too.

35. Tim Looby (Murray Bushrangers/Victoria) – Geelong
Position: Defender Height: 187cm Weight: 89kg
Looby has a booming kick and likes the tough stuff. Will be a great asset to the Cats in the future in their defence. He is rebounds well and is an attacking defender. Doesn’t always stay on his man, so accountability is an issue here. Physically ready to set into AFL, but is 186cm and 89kg was he just having an impact in the TAC because he was “bigger” than the others?

THIRD ROUND

36. Todd Grima (Northern Bombers/Tasmania) -Carlton
Position: Key Forward Height: 193cm Weight: 88kg
Very good contested mark. Quick off the mark. Great kick. Reads play well and got a footy brain. Athletic too. Kicked 14 goals in the U/18s championships. Grima would be good but not too sure how good because he plays against second rate men in Tassie & he's bag of ten was against the NT.

37. Ryan Jackson (Northern Knights/Victoria)
Position: Forward/Wingman Height: 188cm Weight: 81kg
He is a classy half-forward flanker and has good endurance. When playing in the forward line he does tend to get the ball regularly and convert them to goals. Collingwood needs a decent forward for the future and Jackson is versatile, able to play midfield and up forward. He should develop well in years to come under Malthouse.

38. Travis Tuck (Dandenong Stingrays/Victoria) Father/Son – Hawthorn
Position: Wing Height: 187cm Weight: 75cm
- runner up for stingrays b&f
- good agility
- big kick

39. Jay Neagle (Gippsland Power/Victoria) Father/Son – Essendon
Position: Full Forward Height: 187cm Weight: 97kg
- literally physically ready to play AFL but might want to shed a few kg
- needs to work on set shots otherwise good kick
- moves well for someone his size

40. Heath Hocking (Eastern Ranges/Victoria) – Richmond
Position: Rover Height: 183cm Weight: 87kg
- hard at it midfielder
- in and under
- speed isn’t terrific but endurance is good
- huge left foot kick but needs to work on his right foot

41.Matt Thomas (Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro)- Brisbane
Position: Midfielder/Defender Height: 185cm Weight: 81kg
The old Brisbane stayers Voss, Lappin and Aker are aging and Thomas seems a good replacement. Thomas is a very competitive player, who would give his all every week. He wants to win, seems to have the “shinboner” spirit. And racks up the stats, averaging 26.6 disposals per match in 2005. Vic Metro honours and a good 3km time trial at the camp should see him get drafted, but his poor carnival and short arm length may see him slip this far.

42. Max Bailey (Swan Districts/Western Australia) - Fremantle
Position: Wing

43.Trent West (Gippsland Power/Vic Country) - Kangaroos
Position: Ruck Height: 198.2 cm Weight: 89.8 kg
Kangaroos have a ruck deficiency, and although Trent will not be a quick fix, he could answer their problems down the track. Trent West is arguably the best ruckman in the TAC cup. Although Trent was not on the Powers list in 2004 he had a very consistent season averaging 13 disposals and 22 hitouts a game and being named in the best 10 times from 19 games. Trent made the Vic country side and was first ruck at the championships, Trent is like many ruckman in being lacking of pace, but his reasonably good kicking, and large scope for improvement should see him drafted.

44.Sam Lonergan (Lauderdale/Tasmania)-Port Adelaide
Position: Centre Height: 181cm Weight: 80kg
Port lacks inside midfielders, with Kane Cornes not having too many friends in the middle. This kind of play Lonergan strives on. Lonergan is the old fashioned footballer, who is a “good driver in heavy traffic”. Great leadership qualities saw Sam named Tasmania and ‘the Allies’ captain, which he led both to victory. A great Carnival saw him earn All Australian honours. His game for the Allies was awesome with close to 30 disposals and 5 goals from the centre. Sam’s lack of speed and occasional skill error by foot will see him slide, but not past the Power.

45. Ryan Cook (Dandenong Stingray/Victoria) – Kangaroos
Position: Midfielder/Forward Heights: 186cm Weight: 79kg
- bottom aged player
- lots of scope for improvement, kangaroos would want to add him to their ageing mids/forwards
- might be a high draft pick next year, so Kangas would take a punt this year
- strong mark
- attacks the ball well
- wasn’t great when kicking for goal. Kicked 23.23.

46. Matt White (Calder Cannons/Victoria) – Bulldogs
Position: Midfield Height: 178cm Weight: 74kg
- missed lots of footy because he was hammered by injuries
- very very quick off the mark & has good endurance
- second efforts are good
- doesn’t take many marks

47. John Cheetham (North Adelaide/South Australia) – Geelong
Position: Key Position Height: 192cm Weight: 83kg
- good kick

48. Sam Elliot (South Adelaide/South Australia) – Adelaide
Position: Midfielder Height: 181cm Weight: 74kg
- natural inside player
- bit slow
- injury history

49. Grae Grant (Perth/Western Australia) – St Kilda
Position: Wing
- quick

50. Mathew Laidlaw (Oakleigh Chargers/Victoria) – Essendon
Position: Midfield Height: 186cm Weight:81kg
Should add more pace to the Essendon midfield, with the Bombers expected to recruit a genuine in and under midfielder before pick 50, expect to see a pacey midfielder drafted here. Matt Laidlaw nearly slipped under the radar because of commitments to school football. Electrifying pace, which saw him record the fasted 20m sprint time at the draft camp, Excellent overhead marking, and being able to read the play highlight Mathew’s abilities. Although he only played 10 matches with Oakley this season he was named in their best 7 times, with his 33 disposal, 10 tackle game vs NB Rebels being a highlight. Mathew only had limited exposure to the TAC competition this season, but would be a steal for the Bombers at 50.

FOURTH ROUND

51. Sam Ilse (Clarence/Tasmania) – Sydney
Position: Midfield/HBF Height: 181cm Weight:80kg
- average when getting rid of the ball
- got a footy brain
- uses ball well

52. Collingwood – PASS

53. Brad Kelleher (Eastern Ranges/Victoria) – Melbourne
Position: Forward/Defender Height: 188cm Weight:82kg
-TAC team of the year (full back) & played for Vic Metro
- but short to play full back at AFL level
- good kick of the ball
- quite on the lead

54. James Wall (Calder Cannons/Victoria) – Sydney
Position: Forward/Back Height:198cm Weight: 82kg
- athletic
- good use of ball
- utility player, can be used in ruck, forward and in backline
- needs to bulk up
- Sydney may also look at Ainger here.

55. Michael West (Redlands/Queensland) – Bulldogs
Position: Forward/Ruck Height: 195cm Weight: 85kg
- athletic & good leap
- strong arms & good mark
- good set shot and kick
- got injured (needs knee reco)
- can make poor decisions

56. Ben Fixter (Sydney/AFL) – Brisbane
Position: 2005 Premiers Height: 180cm Weight: 78kgcm

57. Western Bulldogs - PASS

58. Matthew Seal (East Perth/Western Australia) – Port Adelaide
Position: Forward Height: 183cm Weight: 74kg
- has good goal sense
- needs to find more of the ball though

59. Daniel Nicholls (Dandenong Stingrays/Victoria) – Sydney
Position: Midfielder Height: 176cm Weight: 70kg
- quick
- inside player
- too small to play midfield AFL level
- kicking in front of goal isn’t good

60. Travis Casserley (Swan Districts/Western Australia) - Melbourne
Position: Midfield Height: 184cm Weight: 76kg

61. Geelong - PASS

62. Adelaide - PASS

63. Robert Eddy (Gippsland Power/Victoria) – St Kilda
Position: Midfield Height: 182cm Weight:82kg
- been good throughout the year for Gippsland which may see him get drafted.

FIFTH ROUND

64. Carlton - PASS

65. Collingwood - PASS

66. Ashley Eames (Springvale/VFL) – Essendon
Position: Ruck Height: 200cm

67. Richmond - PASS

68. Melbourne - PASS

69. Kangaroos - PASS

70. Thomas Redden (Glenelg/South Australia) – Port Adelaide
Position: Key Position Height: 191cm Weight: 74kg
Redden is another in-between height player – too tall to play midfield and too short for key position. He is a tall midfielder that can play KPP as well, similarly to Mackie of Geelong. He is versatile, which should appeal to many clubs. Port Adelaide will pick up a KPP with their second pick if they pick up an onballer with their first. Redden will also appeal to them because he is from South Australia.

71. Jessie White (Southport/Queensland) – St Kilda
Position: Ruck Height: 196cm Weight: 96kg
- bottom age (so he will grow still)
- physically built
- good mark
- good hands
- endurance isn’t what you would like for a ruckman

SIXTH ROUND

72. Essendon - PASS

73. Kangaroos - PASS

74. Pt Adelaide - PASS

75. St Kilda - PASS

SEVENTH ROUND

76. Essendon - PASS

The draft was done going by clubs needs and what sort of player I thought would fill the shoes of the clubs needs and not by the rumor mill - just by how I rated them.

55. Michael West (Redlands/Queensland) – Bulldogs
Position: Forward/Ruck Height: 195cm Weight: 85kg
- athletic & good leap
- strong arms & good mark
- good set shot and kick
- got injured (needs knee reco)
- can make poor decisions]

He had a knee reco about 6 months ago.

North don't need anymore tall defenders. For our first pick, we won't take Obst, we are more likely to take the bloke you mentioned after him, Dzufer. Some midfielders with kicking ability is what we need.

Good job though. Our latter picks will be impossible to predict as Nifty Nev almost always pull 1 or 2 from nowhere.

I don't get how 3 months ago, Rob Warnock was a potential first round pick and now is tipped to be overlooked.... Surely someone will take him for the value he was rated with early on and take a punt... Hes 205cm!

AVERAGE WHEN GETTING RID OF BALL and USES BALL WELL. INTERESTING?

Iles would have to be one of the best users of the football going around, if you had seen him play that is?

Be very suprised if Essendon take Pfeiffer with their first pick.
And I've heard a whisper that Freo will actually re-draft Stribbling (sp?) with their final pick and not in the rookie draft.

Well I just don't think the KPPs available at pick 7, will neccesarilly be worth pick 7. Unless some like a Dowler or Kennedy slips through to us thats the only time I'd use pick 7 on a key defender. But thats just my opinion! I also had Pfeiffer in mind, when I started on the phantom draft few week back - just seems the likely option if we're going for a mid (good skills, speed, physically ready to play AFL next year and alright draft camp results). :)

That's quite silly of Fremantle, if true. They should've just promoted him off their rookie list...

Well I just don't think the KPPs available at pick 7, will neccesarilly be worth pick 7. Unless some like a Dowler or Kennedy slips through to us thats the only time I'd use pick 7 on a key defender. I just think we'll over look Pfeiffer. He's a promising player young player but I don't think we will go for him.
There are 4 good tall prospects early in the draft. Ryder, Kennedy, Dowler and Clark. Chances are one of those will fall to us and I'd expect we would look very, very closely at all of them. If Dowler drops through I'd expect us to jump all over him.

From what I recall, each club has to have 3 picks in the draft. If they promoted him they would have had to delist someone else from their list to satisfy the AFL rules in using 3 picks in the draft. This way they can effectively promote him and still satifsy the AFL requirements.

Toby Stribling wasn't even on their rookie list - he was on their senior list.

36. Todd Grima (Northern Bombers/Tasmania) -Carlton
Position: Key Forward Height: 193cm Weight: 88kg
Very good contested mark. Quick off the mark. Great kick. Reads play well and got a footy brain. Athletic too. Kicked 14 goals in the U/18s championships. Grima would be good but not too sure how good because he plays against second rate men in Tassie & he's bag of ten was against the NT.

Hooray!!! :D ;)

Okay. Well the same rule applies.
The AFL states you have to delist/draft 3 players.

The rumour from the start has been that they will rookie him, but I've heard they will draft him with their last pick.
