Rookie Selection - Essendon - Ned Bowman - Norwood/SA
186cm - Forward/utility

A forward with some very exciting traits, most known for his mark of the year for Norwood early in the season Bowman would go on to play for SA at the champs and although he didn’t have many big moments and didn’t get a whole lot of it I still thought he showed some great signs.

With his leap and speed he certainly has some traits to play AFL and if not as a forward he could certainly find a home on a wing or even half back. I would hope he can be a hard working half forward who is an aerial threat but also a player who can put on genuine pressure and be classy in link up play.

Bulldogs - Jaxon Artemis - 185cm - DEF/wing

Jaxon won the WA champs MVP. He is an excellent user of the ball, can run all day and takes the game on breaking lines and delivering the ball well. Took most of the kick outs for WA and hit targets long and short, when hitting the short target his teammates generally tried to give it back to him to run it out of defense and send it forward, plenty of upside with athletic traits and excellent ball use.

Terrific pick. One of my favourites in this draft and can't understand why he is not higher
I dare say he'd be higher if he 'ran' the ball a bit more. A bit stop and prop for some scouts

Sweet. Pies second pick is Luke Urquhart (East Fremantle/Western Australia)

I contemplated going a tall here but having already picked up Shanahan, along with the fact that I'm currently disenfranchised with our midfield's effort, I've leant towards one of WA's most consistent players over the champs. Yeah his kicking definitely has to improve, but he has traits to work with, and if you back your development to do that, might as well. We've seen poor kicks overcome their deficiencies at AFL level so will back them in to do that.

Really like this kid. Just an absolute competitor. I think there's a little Clay Smith about him in that he slides just due to kicking but you can't teach that attack on the contest - you either have it or you don't.

Chad Warner and James Rowbottom had kicking queries in their draft years aswell, gotta be able to win it for that role first and foremost

Pick 58 - Saints -Hugh Boxshall 187cm

This kid reminds me a little of Starcevich from the lions, kind of a brute of a player that plays taller than he looks. He has shown glimpse of AFL talent at champs level but has really shown some solid numbers at under 18's level here in perth playing for a very strong Claremont side. I love his inside grunt work to go with his aerial ability.
I have a feeling he may start his career across the HBF and work his way either midfield or forward of center.
I really like him, great runner, aerial ability and tough! I think he'll be a ripper, very surprised he didn't get a call up to national combine.

Good assessment of this kid. Needs work on defensive pressure but has some good traits.
