All you had to do was give up Hird and you would've been much further along the path to recovery. And they got him in the end anyway.
Or not put him in the senior coach position in the first place when he wasn't ready for it.
But im glad we didn't scapegoat a servant of the club to relieve some temporary external pressure from the AFL world.
They would have just turned to their next target, which they did in Jobe.

And i think you'll find it wasn't external pressures that saw Hird's tenure ended, but internal moves to find a coach who could lead the club forward.

Also, im pretty happy with where we are on the path now
2017 is looking exciting.

I was referring to suggestions that police involvement matters.

The insurance company knocked them back in a bunch of claims that the police couldn't care less about.

If they had claims the police would care about, I'd dare say self-incrimination would be a factor for a major player in the saga such as Wallis.
I think Wallis is a little unfairly judged here.
By all accounts, he was charged with documenting the program. Then he got himself suspended and wasn't allowed near the IT dept. for 4 months.
With a critical staff member missing, i'd like to know who made sure his responsibilities were picked up
my guess - no one.
good work Hamilton.

When was the last time an external body made anything stick to the AFL? They'd get away with anything short of murder, and maybe even that. Evans knew what he was doing.

Chances are Hird would be back in the game by now, but it was all too traumatic for the 'Stand By Hird' crowd.

JTFC.

The ALLEGATIONS were deemed inadequate, thus compensation was not paid.

So both your attempts at do the thunking were wrong.
The things they would be looking at are:
1. has the claimant suffered excessive stress?
if so,
2. what were the conditions that caused that stress?

If they can't establish #1, they won't bother worrying about #2. So throwing out the claim doesn't necessarily mean they couldn't substantiate the allegations.
It could be that the level of stress created couldn't be established, or that the contributing factors weren't deemed to have caused the stress.

assuming he said it.

Maybe he did. I dunno, I struggle to think that anyone would say something so ******* stupid to a premiership player. To me it seems much more likely he fabricated it to add weight to his claim. But who knows.

Of all the people in footy who might say something so stupid and disrespectful Robson would be prominent on the list.

Of all the people in footy who would watch the insult fly straight over their head Wallace would be prominent on the list - and the list would be bloody long.

I can't see Hird at a club other than Essendon
And maybe he'd be back. And maybe he should be back at the club.
But those are his personal choices now, and i'll respect that.
I was glad to hear Tanner say he'd welcome Hird back when he started with the club. it's the right sentiment, regardless of what has happened in the past.

I'm glad we didn't just throw him to the wolves when they came calling though.
It was a small positive from a negative period in our history.

To be fair, a 12 month paid holiday and being allowed to see out your contract isn't exactly being thrown to the wolves.

I wonder if gatto issues receipts.

Even if we did reach out him he sure as **** didnt help us!

Agree. We did well to stick to our guns and back the people at the club.
Had we folded and asked Hird to stand down when Caro and Demetriou called for it, i would have been even further disappointed by the club.
Was his suspension warranted? that's a hard one to agree/disagree with.
That it turned out to be an all-expenses paid trip is farcical, but the AFL should have left sanctions alone.

Yeah exactly. Essendon I.T would've been able to access the exchange server. It would've been hosted off site but they would've had administrator access. I looked at their mail MX records, and some mob in Bendigo runs it. Would've been easy to delete the emails imo

Yeah, I suspect the clubs host their own email - in Essendon's case seems to be with Bendigo telco as you say - probably hosted exchange with them - who knows if the emails were even sent via club addresses though.

MX's for Sydney are with optus. Essendon even seem to own the DNS name too - records are hosted with Amazon. Even going back Essendon were one of the last to go under the Telstra website - they hosted their own for a long time (it used to be better than the standard ones).

Mick Gatto confirms he spoke to Essendon during height of doping scandal

UNDERWORLD enforcer Mick Gatto has sensationally confirmed he was approached by a senior Essendon figure at the height of the drugs saga to “find out what was going on with it all”.

The Herald Sun has obtained a video of Gatto being interviewed by The Footy Show star Sam Newman at a Lygon St restaurant this afternoon.

“With this one, I did get embroiled in it and I was approached,” Gatto said at Villa Romana.

Pressed by Channel 9’s Sam Newman if he was approached by an official of the Essendon Football Club to help fix the doping mess, Gatto said: “I was. I was. But it wouldn’t be very professional of me to divulge who.

“They just wanted me to find out what was going on with it all and what I could find out and have a feel around.”

Mick Gatto interviewed by Sam Newman today.
Gatto then shifted the conversation to how he had also assisted supplements supplier Shane Charter.

“But listen, before you go down that track, I was approached by Shane Charter,” he said.

“Now Shane came and saw me and he said: ‘Mate, I’ve been hard done by here’.

“And he said: ‘I can prove without any shadow of a doubt that the supplement they brought over here’, the Miso-4 (Thymosin beta-4) or whatever it was, ‘I can prove that it wasn’t that, it was something else’.

“He had compelling evidence that it was legal.

“We done a deal with some members of Essendon who tried to do a deal and he wanted to be paid for it because of his hardship and what he had been dragged through. They wouldn’t hand over so they went and paid lawyers millions of dollars instead.”

The Carlton identity’s revelations will be embarrassing for Essendon which last night claimed there were “no dealings” between a senior club official and the man acquitted for the murder of hitman Andrew “Benji” Veniamin 12 years ago.

Gatto proved he had shot Veniamin in self-defence.

The Herald Sun was provided with footage of the interview by sports and gossip website 15 Minutes of Fame.

gatto telling the news to watch the footy show tonight so must have an interview for it
don't bother

Edit: beaten to the punch.

Anyway, TL;DR:

  • Gatto says EFC did officially approach him, contradicting what Tanner said.

  • Gatto states he and Charter were working together, which makes a mockery of the prevalent view here that he "put the mockers" on Charter somehow

  • Gatto reckons Charter could prove the substance was legal, which probably gives an indication of how credibly you can take what Gatto is saying

stop copying my content. against bf rules :p

Just ran a clip on TV, Gatto confirming to Sam he was formally approached by an EFC offical to resolve issue but would not name names.

Gatto does not talk for any reason, trying to read between the lines. Is Gatto just doing some post sales work to help tidy things up without giving any specifics. It had the appearance of a spontaneous interview but have no doubt that Sam and Gatto had colluded to make to event happen.

Must have been an exorbitant amount asked by Charters for Essendon to refuse to clear their name
