Couldnt find the link just yet, but in the Adelaide Advertiser on saturday an article is written by Michelangelo Rucci, possibly SA's most credible football journalist titled 'Bombers make play for Gorringe'

Part of the article reads as:

'Essendon has upset the running order for next months AFL national draft by yesterday making a major sales pitch to Norwood ruckman Daniel Gorringe rather than a midfielder. Gorringe, considered the fourth best draft candidate in the years draft pool, yesterday met Bombers recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro and senior recruiting co-ordinator Merv Keane at Glenelg while ruckmen dominated the news in AFL's trade week.

Essendons keen interest in Gorringe, 18, contradicts the pre-draft speculation that the bombers would use their pick 8 on a midfielder such as Woodville West Torrens candidate Jared Polec.

'Well draft the best player at no.8' said Dodoro last night. 'That could be the best ruckman or the best midfielder. And Daniel is in strong consideration'.

There is also a picture of this meeting.

What does everybody think about this considering we are desperate for a classy midfielder. I believe it is unlikely that Gorringe will slip to 8 anyway.

Doesnt seem as if this has been brought to anybodys attention yet :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Good joke.

Gorringe looks to be a solid player. From what I've seen, good body size for a kid, good around his feet, and has a decent bit of speed about him. Can also go down forward.

If we wanted a ruck, we go midfielder first, then hope that Lycett slips to the second.

Dead agreed. The difference between Gorridge and Lycett is not that much and that way we would not have to pay the ridiculous price of pick 8 for a ruckman!

I don't usually dabble in internal stuff or list management stuff.
So I really doubt it, feel free to weave through and find something though. Trade week interests me but not on a level where I call recruiters bad etc. The only thing I did was make a Dragon Ball Z name comparison and got trodden on for not reading an entire thread before posting a slightly incorrect employment title for a bloke that I know nothing about.
I even googled his name to check his title before originally posting as I wasn't certain of his title to avoid the semantics that is the internet. Turns out it takes more than a part time knowledge to make a silly pun on here.

Going by their respective videos there's a huge difference between the two. Gorringe is an incredibly mobile ruck, who can almost play as another midfielder. Lycett, while mobile is more of a lumbering type and an old-fashioned ruck.

yep gorringe has the potential to win three brownlows in a row whilst lycett at best is just an average ruck.

if essendon overlook gorringe and he turns out to be a star i bet the same people screaming for essendon to take a midfielder would bag dodoro for overlooking the best player

Again, my post wasn't aimed at you.

I saw the DBZ reference, chuckled and moved on, as it was clearly said in gest.

My post was directed about the other people who have not only ignored that Dodoro's no longer our recruiting manager, but then gone on in this thread to blame him for the potential recruiting of Gorringe.

Again, not aimed at you.

I just cbf going back and quoting whoever posted it.

In some articles it does still say that Dodoro is our recruiting manager? Not saying your wrong, but maybe a reason as to why people think he still is.

Yeah that's fair enough, but it just reinforces how dumb our journalists are.

List manager.

Exactly - so therefore he is responsible for the state of the list including who we draft. Why are people trying to distance Dodoro from the decissions when its his comments that have driven this thread? Make no mistake IF we draft Gorringe, Dodoro will have had a say in it just as he always has.

Actually I think its time to drop the 'Dudoro" tags & just call the guy teflon. All the bad picks were passed off as Sheedy's mistakes & any good ones he gets credit for. I remember plenty saying Dodoro didn't get his way until 2006 & before that the mistakes like Keps & Laycock were all Sheeds fault. Mind you those comments were when it looked like we'd done well in 2006. Since then we've already lost our priority pick, Our no2 pick has played less than 1 season, Jetta has struggled to get a game, Riemers has struggled for any consitancy & Houli is about the leave. Davey is the only pick that remotely worked out so far.

When you look at the last 4 rookie drafts Atko & Howlet (both mature age) were the only finds so its fair to say our recruiting has been poor regardless of who you credit or blame.

This is probably what a lot of people are hoping for. We get the crucial classy midfielder with selection eight and one of the better ruckman, Lycett, in the draft with our second round selection.

They're both mobile and have also looked dangerous when played forward in the U18 championships. I'd be perfectly content using selection eight to secure Gorringe if that's what occurs because he certainly looks the goods.

Almost looks like you could play him as a midfielder until he bulks up... ok maybe HFF.

Dead set? We dont need another ruckman. Hille, Belly, Ryder, Bock (project ruckman always look crap but you have to give them a few years).

We are in FAR more need of a skilled mid than a ruckman.

And when Hille retires? If Bock doesn't make it?

I'm not sold on Bellchambers yet either and Hird hinted at another role for Ryder.

Not entirely opposed to grabbing Gorringe, but do want a midfielder much, much more.
