Totally understand man,

We have had to put up with crap from supporters of the Victorian Clubs all year, Trengove, Carlile, Moore, Boak, Gray and Pearce all want to leave our club and head to finer pastures of Richmond, Essendon and Carlton. Or something like that.

The amount of crazy posts we have had on our board is ridiculous, so can totally understand any annoyance.

Dont listen to anyone who cant spell the world 'Brilliance' lol.

We will both get fair I think, if you consider our Second Rounder 'fair.'

Ha Ha Ha, TSW, that's the price a team pays for finishing at or near the bottom. We copped an insane amount of stupid posts last year. :(

I have faith that both teams will walk out of the trade room with a reasonably fair perspective, give or take a few draft positions.

If it were up to the majority on our board to list manage WC, last year we probably would have gained Josh Hill and Andrew Krakeour for picks 26 and 29.....

Happens every year

It happens every year that players look for a trade and state their preference. Ebert's manager has gone further than stating a preference - he's suggesting that Ebert refuses to go anywhere but Port:

"The Crows are aware that Brad's preference is to go to Port Adelaide and he'll be going to Port Adelaide, full stop," Reid said.

"So you'll find West Coast will only be dealing with Port Adelaide on the matter."

call me stubborn... (and i have nothing against ebert, i think he'll do well). but id like to see us hold onto him until we get something valuable.... and if port arent willing to give us what we want.... then F**K em'.

and i say this because he is saying i want to go to ONLY PORT. we wont deal with anyone else..... (now no offence to port supporters here)... their list sucks and they have little to offer and what they would, they would want keep them anyway.

so unless there is a good three way type of deal, or a future 1st or 2nd rounder (in some kind of a trade) then i think we should hold onto him. and yes risk losing him to nothing..... barring a horrid injury season, touch wood, i think we'll be ok covering him.

then it will be a big F**K YOU to players who think they can do this. and he can enjoy the wafl for a year.

And then GWS can sign him up! :p

ohh really!? i thought he had one more year... bugger.

well he really has us by the balls then doesnt he. not much else to say, he really must love port. fair enough. it is a bit of a shame that we pumped so many games into him... i bet the coaches are a bit stumped by this one... and we look a little stupid and perhaps naive.

it will be salt in a minor wound if we take motlop. he's not even good enough to tie eberts boot laces.

And you propose to do this how? Kidnap him and hold him in a Guantanamo Bay type facility for a year? I'd suggest somewhere without extradition treaties with Australia and pay some thugs in the local town, wherever he might be holidaying, in cash from a third part so it can't be traced back to the Eagles. :D

He is out of contract, no holding onto him can be done. :thumbsu:

I think it's Stevens that has been rumoured (fabricated or otherwise) to be on the move who is contracted.

Nah, it's a business beezkneez, you put games into the player if you think they're worthy. The club deemed Ebert was worthy, end of story. :)

wow the respect I once had for you is now gone. Good one

Cutting myself mate.

Good poster on Bay13, but some of your crap needs to be kept there ;).

I think your being a tad naive. I also think your ignoring Peter Rhode and even Dean Brogan himself who said the club need another mature aged ruckman. No doubt the club is targetting Brent Renouf with Jon Griffin a backup option. Fact is you will be targetting a mature aged ruckman (unless Rhode is pulling everyones leg) and I think you will need all the extra picks in order to get a deal across the line

Id say pick 45 should be enough to net you Renouf.

I doubt that.

no i dont think it was stupid or naive. West Coast have arguably the best drafting team up there with Geelong and Collingwood.

brad's a little unique given his family history, its all Port Adelaide.

if you think about it - you would kinda expect him to always come home when you learn about his family heritage ....

Then there is Brett Ebert's cousin, Brad. On the paternal and maternal sides of his family, Brad Ebert has a heritage reaching 1204 games at the Port Adelaide Football Club - 164 by his great grandfather Ken Obst; 200 by his grandfather, 1967 Magarey Medallist Trevor Obst; 112 by his father Craig Ebert; 171 by his great uncle Peter Obst; 392 by his uncle, four-time Magarey Medallist Russell Ebert; 58 by his second cousin Andrew Obst and 107 by cousin Brett.

Maybe the AFL should invent a Family-club rule, so clubs dont waste their time drafting kids who never intend on staying at the club that drafted them. Save everyone a load of time.

Well if he is so revered at port they can pay overs to get him.

If brandon matera wanted to come to wc i'd be happy if the club through the kitchen sink at him.

Exactly what I was thinking because when Brandon Matera come's home it wouldn't be fair for the GC.

Actually I feel a little sorry for them right now.

Guy Mckenna didn't deserve this.:(

Matera hasnt asked to leave yet. He might actually so some fortitude and show he wants to be his own man and decide to forge his own career.

The ideal trade would be
Newton + Pick 28 for Ebert + WC 2nd rounder

Yep - I reckon this is a pretty balanced and realistic trade, given that Port hold the advantage. Mind you I would prefer if we went in offering our 3rd + Ebert for 28 + Newton as I think all things being even (which sadly they aren't) this would be the trade.

My post was tongue in cheek.

But draft becomes a waste of time if guys like Ebert never intend on staying at the club that drafted them.

This wasnt about a kid who never intended to stay - it was about a kid who was told where his opportunities in 2012 were going to be & then deciding the guarantees he'd benn offered elsewhere were much better. The decision to go home isnt the problem, here its the fact that that everyone nowdays is nominating 1 club thereby forcing the hand. For the good of the competition the AFL needs to stop this happening.

The difference between the approach of Clark & Ebert is substantial & stems from the fact how one player is acknowledging the interests of his current club & one isnt. Itsthevsame with Gunstan from Adelaide, how dare he quote homesickness & then say in the same breath he' ll only go to Hawthorn.
