yeah exactly. And there’s no way Saints just trade pick 6 to absolutely screw Freo. They would have discussed the option.

Hill is St Kilda’s priority target, I imagine this Saints/Giants trade of picks has been completed in consultation with Freo RE Hill.

No not at all. I'd have preferred what Bell asked for, however i know that's massive overs and unlikely to get done. I'm not sure though that the Saints haven't thrown the baby out with the bath water here and downgraded their picks as a big up you to Fremantle. The thing is it isn't a big up yours to us because the player is elite and contracted for 2 more seasons. I'd much rather Hill for 2 more years than a draft pick. That's just me though.
I think looking at it you'd have to say that Hill was offered a very enticing deal by St Kilda, that's why he nominated them. The Saints then either pony up or they don't. I think Bell was fairly clear (or at least he was in the press over here) that Brad was an elite talent that we wanted to keep but would look at a trade if it was good for us, and there it is, the trade needs to be good for us because he's our elite player, that you want.

Fair point, we don't actually know what Freo was asking for, but when people say "Freo asked for two first rounders and are getting them now (12 and 18)", they aren't understanding that pick 1 is very different to pick 18. It's silly to label them all as just first round picks. Clearly, 6 and 2020 1st is a much better deal than 12 and 18

well good luck to the saints if they want Brad Hill this season.Peter Bell is the one who looks like a total goose here, not St Kilda. Freo wanted 2 first round picks, they got it in 12 and 18. They will look like total hypocrites and tools if they reject that offer now

I'm not buying any of the so-called drama. Especially with Barrett's name attached to the reporting. If our clubs had a short meeting, it was probably just to keep up to date. It's professionally convenient for Barrett to assume somebody was upset. I doubt we suddenly did the pick swap in defiance of Freo's wishes either. My guess is the deal will go down, sometime later in the trade period, and will fall right in that sweet spot where fans of both teams will think they gave up too much. I'm guessing anywhere between three and six picks going in either direction.

I seriously think Saints will use 12 in combination with Stevens to extract value from Geelong.

17 and 18 aren't that valuable to Freo. Makes sense to be in the top 10-12 and then the 20s.

Unless what we actually want is the 2 picks you've just acquired? Who knows. All that seems to have happened is the Saints have publicly offered Hill a big deal then balked at the asking price. Not sure that's a good look for potential future elite targets.
