Priority #1- Use our Pick3 to acquire the best available talent.
- The only reason we downtrade Pick 3 is if the club think the top 10 is somewhat even.

Priority #2- McCarthy

Priority #3- Use whatever is left to get Hill. If we can't please the Hawks then let him stay there.
I just think that we should not be trading our first two picks.
At this time our second is early round 3 (so 38-40 ish) but I would expect us to get an earlier pick or two through trading or DFA's.
McCarthy should end up with us but I doubt that there will be more than a late round 2 or our round 3 for Him.

I like Croz and would like to keep him but that would be a win for us even though Croz has been better this year. So you are right it would need an additional pick from us which at the moment we really don't have.
I'm sure they will target Croz he is left sided, one of the best field kicks in our team and that is always a Hawks priority. My view is leave B Hill at the Hawks until he is out of contract.

It was reported on sport FM thatalthough Hill wants out he is prepared to wait until his contract ends.

That may not make much difference to how the trade turns out however I doubt he is Freo's first priority.

Part of the art of negotiation is to be prepared to walk away if you don't like the deal.
That is exactly what we need to do if Hawthorn want too much.
My mail suggests that the Hawks are keen to get rid of Hill, although they are obviously not going to state that publicly.

This is one of those situations where I'd actually prefer Bondy to be as coy and tightfisted at the trade table as possible. Starting offer should be MDB and Subes. If not accepted he should throw in Sean Hurley.

Our key objective in any negotiation on this trade should be to avoid another severe reaming.

The two Hill's have purchased a house in North Fremantle for the family to live in.

That plus what he said on footy classified (that he may be at Hawthorn for another year yet) certainly indicates a long term plan to be in WA regardless of what Hawthorn want for him. It may not be this year - that will probably more depend on the rumours that Hawthorn is fairly keen to offload him but it will definitely be by end of next year.

On a side note wouldn't you buy a place closer to the new training ground rather the current one?

Can somebody clarify for me - is Hill initiating and/or pushing this or is Freo? This article reads as if we are, and I'm not convinced that we are...

I think Hawthorn are up to their necks in this. Their model of turning over and freshening up the list to cover holes that are yet to appear is extraordinary. They have a replacement for Hill in Hartung and want currency and cap space to chase a Tom Mitchell or OMeara to replace an aging Sam Mitchell and Hodge. Explains why there is such tranparancy from Hill and Hawthorn because Hill has been tapped on the shoulder.

i hope we don't deviate from our list model and wait a year

Because who the **** would want to live in Cockburn if they were on 300k-plus a year?

See I look at this more as hill regurgitating what freo would have said to him. Ross would have told him to be prepared to spend another year at the hawks if a deal cant be negotiated. Ross would have been honest and told him we have greater needs, and we wouldnt be selling the farm. Very odd of Clarkson to state in the media that he hoped they would get a win at the trade table against us, it already sets the tone.

Bondy's actually been really good at that for us. Has he ever been reamed in a trade?

the hawks are arrogant. they think he is worth pick 3. Also they claimed were were never close to them in the 2013 GF. A very arrogant bunch.

Get mccarthy 1st

I read your posts. I don't think most of their responses were arrogant at all. Also, most of them were trying to work out ways to turn him into a pick 3, ie with another player or linked with McCarthy. Very few of them were saying he's worth a pick 3 by himself.l

Cockburn is undergoing quite the transformation atm, be interesting to re-visit this in a few years time. I'd definitely prefer to live in Freo/North Freo but I can think of plenty worse places in Perth to live than CB.

Anyone buying in the Port Coogee development? Seems pretty convenient - on the beach and 15 mins or so from Cockburn. A lot more reasonably priced than the developments up North - and far closer to the City also.

I posted this in the draft board thread - I think it presents as a relatively fair reflection of all sides and the issues it causes for any trade. What do you think?

Hill's value to Hawthorn - (potentially going for 5 in a row) - Top-10 pick for equivalent immediate impact
Hill's value to Fremantle - (full rebuild) - 3rd rounder - No point getting an outside player peaking now, too far away from contending with too many holes.
Hill's value to whole market - Pick 15-20.

If he goes to Fremantle, it will be for substantial unders, due to all three sides (Hawks - reputation, Freo - priority, Hill - Family).

How far under value remains to be seen, but Hawthorn are good (soft) traders so I could see a pick as low as 25 getting it done.

I cannot see an outcome where Fremantle keeps #3, and gets Hill - which virtually kills any deal before it starts.

If the player that Fremantle want is likely available at 10, then there is a possibility for a picks swap (gaining GWS/GC additional points) with Hawthorn's lower picks, getting McCarthy and Hill and a mid-range first round pick. Perhaps the Fremantle 2017 1st round will be used instead.

They'd be keen to offload him this year because they'd have much less bargaining power next year.

I don't think we'll get Hill this year but if we were we won't be using our pick 3 to do so. If you think something around #25 is the right value then we'd be more likely able to find that by trading players out. Our newest list management strategy hints that we may be moving on as many as 10 players this year - not all of them will be delists.
