This has been good to dispel the bullsh!t that "people are loving McRae's Pies".

They hate us and will celebrate if we lose a GF.

Many hate us, but quite a few don't.

Got a message by a Melbourne supporting buddy who said that he disliked the pile-up on Maynard.

McRae has changed the way the Pies are viewed but for a large chunk of the population, the hate is ingrained.

Greg Baum wrote well on this:

"...
In the emotionally highly charged environment of the footy finals, and acknowledging that in footy as much as politics people form their views through the prisms of club allegiances, long-held convictions and visceral likes and dislikes, this verdict will please only half the people. But a guilty judgment would have pleased only the other half.

In the end, the AFL probably got what it wanted. That is, not a full-strength Collingwood in the preliminary final, but a high-profile process and transparent outcome...

All this reinforces is that the AFL is as corrupt as FIFA, I have been saying this all along. People sfellow.

They dragged a player through the mud, to protect their own arses.

They are concerned about a Class Action, nothing to do with what Maynard did.

Pretty much according to their position AFL should cease to exist. Give up your wages and quit you dogs, or go administer/leech off the netball..oh wait there is no Collingwood team to give you a free ride and fill the coffers. Dogs

Ridiculous post.

Don't think they'll want to look silly twice in 2 days
It makes the two independent systems they have in place to deal with these incidents; the MRO & Tribunal look redundant if they over rule and then appeal. What's the point of having them at all if the AFL are not going to accept their decision?

Not to mention the biomechanist & the AFL's counsel actually helped Maynard 😆

Going through the tribunal was the correct decision even if the AFL and MRO didn’t agree. The process worked and the issue was debated at length at an independent forum. Would have been a lot more controversial if they had just. Gone with Christians recommendation.

Collingwood got what it wanted … justice…. And the AFL got what it was looking for…. Transparency. .

Posted this on the Melbourne Board - not entirely well received ...
I have to say that the Melbourne board for all its faults of which I am sure it has many are at least a bit more tolerant of opposition supporters than the Carlton board.

I remembered watching Ihle as counsel assisting in the Hotel Quarantine inqury. So as soon as his name popped up in the live blog I felt comfortable. Then the blow by blow dismantling of the AFL's two pronged attack was superbly handled.

I have to say though, this was one of the rare occasions a crowd sourced BigFooty defence perhaps could have delivered Bruzzy the outcome. The AFL lawyer's arguments were fairly pedestrian. The posters who put together their cases in this thread had already pretty much shown how weak those arguments were.

MRO isn’t independent, tribunal and appeals board are. Biomechanist was introduced by the Pies.

Reckon Woods couldn’t do much else. He didn’t have much to argue.

Just skimmed through the Melbourne board. Not a feral bunch, but their posts still have the hallmarks of some kind of collective concussion.

They make our board seem sharp in comparison, which I think we can agree is a terrible indictment.

The inability of so many to distinguish between an attempted smother and a player who chooses to bump instead of tackle is mesmerising: I can't understand it and I'm troubled by the cognitive misfire but I just can't look away.

There is a universal law, apparently. THE HEAD IS SACROSANCT. The AFL itself decreed this, intending it to apply to every conceivable situation on a football field, no exceptions, but now it has broken its own sacred code because it wants Collingwood to win the premiership.

I thought that the MFC was made up of a 'better sort' of supporter base, but it appears that Big Footy is left to deal with the absolute dregs, the type who have no quince paste to go with their cheeses.

Unlike our own assortment of classy and sophisticated types.

Cognitive misfire

Really? Makes me laugh when people bandy about terms like corrupt. If the AFL was some sort of evil corrupt organisation do you think we would have been exposed to the bosses disagreeing with the MRO?

They ain’t that sophisticated.

The irony of Carlton supporters bitching and moaning on this just proves their mental capacity. Can’t wait for this weekend either way I can justify my happiness with one of them out!
I thought they'd be more happy that Brayshaw & Van Rooyen aren't playing this weekend.

If it’s a choice between corruption and incompetence, 9 out of 10 it’s incompetence.

Yeah im steering clear of the mainboard. Absolute mental pygmys of the highest order having an emotional, illogical circle jerk

One last comment… a minor issue but arguably a small factor in the not guilty decision. It was mentioned at the tribunal that Maynard did in fact manage to touch the ball in flight. This is further direct evidence that his intention was only to smother.
I always thought the footage from behind the goals showed the ball deviating slightly as it touched the top of his right hand.

Yes it helped with any argument that the spoil wasn’t unrealistic.
