A few wowsers in here have been critical of Eddie over the restaurant celebration. I understand he's a polarising figure, but his love of the game (not just Collingwood), and his love and respect of the people in the game, burns bright.
Watch #footyclassified tonight and tell me the guy is not a real champ.

Interesting in the AFL statement that they say they will be closely examining the incident in regard to high contact rules in the off season. Not sure how they are going to legislate against an accident? If they go down the 'if you jump to smother but accidentally concuss a player in the process, you're responsible and will be suspended' road then... I don't see how they can then not apply that to jumping for marks or going back with the flight etc.
The real issue seems to have been missed by the footy media.

Maynard's act was as close as **** is to swearing to a player taking a mark or spoiling a mark.

The AFL saw and now know this.

They now have to find a mechanism to either punish or prevent any head contact in any "in play" situation or be open to litigation and/or workplace health and safety legal action.

Once the risk is clear as it now is
failure to act and also be seen to act will most definitely result in legal redress.

They either find a way to mitigate the risk of any major injury or a way to indemnify the game from that risk.

It's really the beginning of the end of contact footy.

Utter BS. Most past players called it no case to answer from the get go. Callbackers a bit different.

Don’t be a baby.

Gary Lyon, H Brayshaw, Schofield, Shaun Smith, Leigh Matthews all considered Maynard to have transgressed and held a negative view of the incident yet I'm sure none of them shared their opinion of the Lynch bump on Keath this year which had the same outcome.

Why so angry or passionate about one concussed player and silent on others?

Apart from Lethal, the rest of those were hit too close to home by the incident, (or just flogs in the case of Schofield) for their opinions to hold any weight.

You've included people with a direct bias there, Melbourne: Lyon, Smith. Brother: Brayshaw.

The majority before the verdict, and even more after, were on the side of no suspension. There's always going to be a few with a different view

Nor do old people like being shouldered aside when getting into a train carriage. They can be really sensitive about it.

Bloke dropped his man bag the other day, and both of us went in hard for the loose satchel, but I went lower and more fierce. Handed back to him and the thankless prick called me a mad a-hole.

Bloke was trying to get on the train but I stood the mark. He deviated from his line so I tackled him, as he'd played on. He acted like I'd infringed on the rules or something. Some blokes huh

Should have called 50 metres when the sook protested!

They didn’t follow processes. They sought cover their backsides. They referred to the tribunal knowing full well that there was no case to answer.

Had the AFL succeeded they would have undermined and destroyed the very game they are supposed to be nurturing.

Had they succeeded the game would have been changed for ever.

Morally corrupt, clear as day. Maynard was the scape goat, just like the Pies were for their stand against racism…nothing from Hawthorn, Ted Walker is all Australian…Eddy cancelled.

I’ll leave it there as it’s clearly a waste of my time given the silver foil in your hat is clearly rendering you incapapable of rational thought on the subject.

I don't think any of their opinions held any weight because they were ridiculous. Lyon citing Brayshaw's history of concussion as though that is in any way relevant to the way in which the tribunal should adjudicate the case.

Lyon even mentioned Brayshaw's relationship with Danny Frawley's daughter.

All emotive nonsense.

Interesting- they kinda cook Goodwin for his comments and hypocrisy in this clip

Did I say it was a conspiracy? I said I'd never seen a reaction like the one we've seen this week to a player going before a tribunal and now I see Eddie McGuire said the same thing.

This is one issue where Eddie and I are in fierce agreement.

As for cherry picking names- you mocked my assertion that current/past players had stuck their noses in so I gave you names. How is that cherry picking? Perhaps there are more I could add to the list.

Interestingly Jordan Lewis, (the last really big knockout hit) said he agreed with the decision.
Also mentioned the hardest part about coming back was game day.
Hope Angus gets a chance to chat with him.

EXACTLY. The AFL preferred to overrule the MRO and fail testing the case purely for their own agenda. Optics. Had to be seen to be going all out to punish offenders that concuss other players. It didn’t matter that the AFL lost. They also didn’t care about any additional hysteria it created or the harm it did to Maynard’s well being and family. I think Bruzzy is as big a victim in all this as Brayshaw (and that’s not to take his concussion lightly - quite the opposite).
