In fairness to Caro, it wouldn't surprise me if the Dees are trying to take the heat out of the story to get reporters to stop harassing them for comment and get their heads into winning a final.

This would be the worst possible week for Melbourne to prepare for a final.

But - their coach set the tone immediately after the QF, and kept going. I expect by the time Bruzzy got cleared they started thinking ‘oops’ - let’s take the focus off the club and get our heads in the right space.

They had to take it to the tribunal to protect the system. This couldn't have been seen to be decided any other way. The only thing that was a bit dodgy was giving it a classification. Apparently they can send it to the Tribunal unclassified. But the issue is that that would have looked dodgy when he got off, which they would have thought was the most likely outcome.

Bashing the AFL admin is a national sport, but they don't always deserve it

Yes they should have sent it unclassified and they also shouldn’t have put Laura kanes name on it, effectively admitting they have overruled Christian. Or just put her name on it solo and admitted outright they had overruled Christian.

But no issues with it being seen by the tribunal. It was the proper process.

I just saw the clip from footy classified. Eddie's defence about his restaurant pronouncement might be valid but it shows again that his time in a leadership position with the Pies has gone. THe other interesting aspect was the reminder of Goodwin's reference to van rooey's head punch earlier this year. His contradicting opinions with the Maynard case are stark....Maybe his style is to be "one of the boys" but even that is ironic because Gawn and Petracca have been far more measured in dealing with the maynard issue. Goodwin seems to be more aligned to the Hamish Brayshaw approach of shooting with his mouth without engaging his brain. Once again, that quote comes to mind that I heard a few weeks back about an assessment of melbourne - great list but shit coach....

Interesting- they kinda cook Goodwin for his comments and hypocrisy in this clip

The interesting part I found was Eddie's take there was a concerted campaign (he didn't say from who) to change the narrative to Maynard and focus on concussion. Wilson, Whateley and others towed the line.

I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories but reading posts on here Sunday & Monday showed the campaign playing out in real time. A real 'wtf is going on here' moment. Media references to Brayshaw not only being concussed but "asleep for two minutes".

Wilson at one point claimed the Maynard incident was completely different to a hit to the head sustained during a marking contest or a spoil, and outright dismissed any comparison as ludicrous. The reference to flowers and vases was surely attempted character assassination. More wtf.

I'm okay with Kane referring to the tribunal, either as a test case or a look ahead to 2024 rule changes. She could have admitted as such and enhanced her leadership, and I reckon someone like Brendon Gale would have done so. But he's not at the AFL...

As it stands I find it difficult to believe there wasn't a coordinated snow job going on.

I agree that it should have always gone to the tribunal. Thats what used to happen in the ancient days of the AFL. It's ironic that everyone has talked about adjusting the rules to deal with maynard-type incidents. No one has talked about using the tribunal in all matters that cant be dealt with by a simple matrix.

As with most managements in large organisations, the AFL has appointed a consultant in Michael Christian to deal with the hard issues, so that they can sit around in meetings and drink fine wine and network....

Don’t know if any of you guys caught Gawn on MMM this morning being interviewed by Marty Sheogold?

He basically refuted what Caro claimed about Maynard’s visit to Brayshaw.

He was there and so was Petracca - he says that all three of them know each other well. He says that he himself took the flowers and put them in a vase and also put the wine in the wine fridge.

He says that Maynard was there about 10 mins in total and basically indicated that there were no issues.

So, Caro either made that all up, or alternatively no doubt will claim that this is what her source told her and stand by that.
given that nobody came out to contradict her story until now, I’d say she was purposely fed BS to fuel their campaign to have a fellow finalist weakened

Only just saw this.................sorry if already posted somewhere but I liked it

Not going to lie , I wanted Bucks and Eddie out of the club a few years back, not in question of their loyalty , but just for a fresh start. Best thing thats happened to the club.

However i love that these two are in the media and go to bat for the pies when it becomes ridiculously out of line. They aren't bothered by calling anyone out. Bucks with the articulate stance and approach , Eddie with the bull through a china shop approach , both effective!

max Gawn put the flowers in the vase!

Has your faith in the tribunal been restored?

Marginally. I mean, as it stood after both parties made their cases, there was pretty much no choice but to drop the charge. I’m still annoyed that they fall for dodgy player explanations like when Caminiti decked Murphy and said he was “trying to gain separation” even though Collingwood was in control of the footy, it was nowhere in the vicinity, and he ran towards Murphy to initiate the hit.

Short answer, no not entirely.

You've clearly lost the argument when you resort to name calling and personal attacks.

Another data point to suggest it was window dressing by the AFL was the absolute acceptance of the tribunal decision and zero suggestion of appeal.

Kane also used the word "independent" about 20 times in her speech, which is exactly how they wanted to spin the comms, after breaking process and having the EGM over rule the MRO.

LOL, highlighting how irrational his posts are is neither name calling or a personal attack so if that’s your starting point your way off.

Happy for him to push his conspiracy theories, but I’ve said from the start I was happy for the afl to kick the can down the road and that it was likely more about public perception and optics. Nothing has changed that view. Certainly not posters labeling the afl corrupt or allegations they’ve dragged Maynard through the mud. I’ll leave it there.

Brayshaw's brother was on radio and said the family was "shocked" that Maynard was there so soon after the injury and it was a little uncomfortable.

Nice of them to be considerate of Maynard. No doubt it would have been uncomfortable for him but he had the balls to show up so good on him for doing the uncomfortable thing.

Hamish himself wasn’t even there presumably being Perth based, so he’s as useful a witness as Caroline Wilson

I'm not sure what sort of flowers Maynard brought to Angus, but I feel confident that Gawn would have been able to arrange them in a tasteful manner.

I do wonder how Brayden made his selection. Did the florist ask him 'the occasion'? Are natives best in such circumstances, or something softer?

Angus's partner was not happy.

Gawn put them in a pink vase!

Caro is currently doing an article on said vase.

Pink does seem like a misstep (unless Bruz brought roses?), but nothing to be too angry about.

She'd be the first demanding anyone else resign if they spread bs like that.
Mike Sheehan summed it up well on Pendles podcast last week - He was always interested in writing about what happened inside the boundary line and Caro was more interested in stories inside the boardroom. I know which ones bore the shit out of me more
