The summation from Bucks was the most positive I've ever heard him about Sier.
NB: "What we saw from there was enormous growth to contribute in an important role in and important win. He was able to push through it, but it turns out the injury is quite significant and not that common."
NB: It’s 4-6 weeks at this point. It was an amazing effort from a young fella to stand up when he was required by the team.

Yeah only just saw this after reading through the thread: that looks like a BIG TICK to me. I liked what I saw from this season, I watched a few replays specifically to focus on him and found him to be very interesting to watch. Hope we hold onto him, looks like good player to me and I love his character: his a real oddball off the field, it's great. No wonder they gave him swannys number

You should consider that the primary role of an inside midfielder is clearances. Thats what they are there for. Win the footy in the pack, get the ball into the hands of an outside mid who has the skills or pace to hurt the opposition. This is where Sier has it all over Wills. 14 clearances in 3 games vs 19 in 7. Averaging less then 3 clearances per game as an inside player is a pretty miserable return. Sure Wills is great at tackling, makes it difficult for the opposition, but its like a forward who cant kick goals or a ruckman who doesn't win taps...being poor at your primary role is a significant defect.

So why is Sier better at clearances? Two factors: firstly Wills is a fumbler, the number of times he might have won a clearance but fumbled has me tearing my hair out. Sier on the other hand is pretty clean. Secondly, I cant possibly agree with you that Sier's disposal is poor and no better than Wills. Its much better, Sier is quite a long penetrating kick when he gets the chance as we saw at the end of the 3rd Q, he also has much better vision in hand passing to advantage.
There is no doubt that Sier is a superior talent to Wills by some margin.
However all available evidence suggests that he just doesn't give a fck.
That type of attitude is cancer in the playing group.
He just needs to get over himself and condescend to put in some real effort at being committed to the program.

Is there any chance he makes it back this season?

According to Walsh's injury report, will be in full training by the bye weekend. So a chance, but I'd say he needs a few scratch matches, which probably means he only makes it back for week 1 of finals.

Would love to see him back alongside a full midfield. I reckon he compliments them really well.

I'm quietly confident we'll see him return for Port alongside Treloar

Sier back in against a match harden experience team like WCE is probably not a smart option

The smarter option would have been to play him last start against Port.

But he’s still a better option than the likes of Varcoe and Brown and arguably a better choice than Greenwood.

look at the bolded text quoting Bucks in post 8778 above - Bucks at least completely disagrees with your assessment. It may well be Sier has turned the corner.

There appears to have emerged a consensus thats Sier is lacking mental application.
Not sure there is a strong brief of evidence on that charge.

Sure spinner, the balance of probability on evidence presented leaves room for skepticism - I love the bear and what he could bring and am happy that bucks has a positive outlook but I will reserve judgement until proven.

Given how badly we were beaten up in the midfield last week, Sier is an important inclusion this week, and we'd be mad not to play him. The Eagles are loading up on stars with little match practice, so we can afford 1. THey have such a strong midfield with big bodies. They also win so many clearances from NicNat. We need a beast in there.

Otherwise, Greenwood has to go in there and tag the most dangerous mid.

Spot on!
Bucks alluded to a possibility of two changes. Reckon Sier is definitely one. Wondering if we might play the three rucks again?

Does Wills come into the equation again?

God I hope not. I appreciate his endeavour and his willingness to get his hands dirty at the stoppages as much as the next supporter, but we need to generate some attacking football out of the midfield and Wills is like a big wet tackle-y blanket in that respect.
