Seriously disturbing article.

Bailey is a ****whit if he has been quoted correctly here. Regardless of weather Fev is the correct fit for Casey/Melbourne, Bailey honestly needs to just STFU about Fev.

He has done nothing wrong of note all year, he is getting fitter every week and im sure he makes our younger players walk a bit taller when he's out on the field with them.

And this 'hindering the development of players like Cook' is ****ing rubbish. Dean, do you think maybe there is some sort of chance that Cook might actually learn a thing or two from a former Coleman medalist? You know, maybe how to position yourself correctly and when to lead?

FFS. Fev maybe a twat, but from what ive seen and what ive heard he has been great for the young kids at Casey this year. His behaviour has been as good as anyone could have hoped for and apart from this game, he has in no way shape or form been the focal point of Casey's forward line.

Give the guy a break.

Good luck for the rest of the year Fev. :thumbsu:

Hang on, all he said was he was focussed on the development of the Melbourne youngsters and if they aren't the focal point then their development gets hurt, in response to a question asking whether he was excited about Fev at Casey. He couldnt STFU about Fev any more if he "no comment"-ed, given he didn't mention him in the response at all. He never said get rid of him or he's damaging the development of players, just that he would if he was used the wrong way

And Brad Gotch did play Fev as the focal point this week, for a change (it was implied, under pressure from Casey, rather than Melbourne) It's Mark Stevens who said that Fev had been keeping Cook out of the forwardline all year, which is wrong, but not unexpected from the HUN.

Cook is getting limited opportunities, no-one can deny that. He is running around up the ground with Fev occupying the role Bailey wants him to play.

Bailey is right to be unhappy, these views were made clear at the beginning of the year as well.

As far as I'm concerned IF Fev is hindering the development of our players he can GTFO, we don't have a responsibility to him and any other VFL team would take him in a heartbeat.

No doubt Cook is learning from him, that's good. But he isn't playing in a key position post.

If we could get the on field Fevola, then yeah, I'd look at doing it. But that's the problem. You dont just get the on field fevola. He's too much of a risk. Especially to have around such young group. So no is the answer.

i was agreeing with the second half of the post more so than the first half, but fev has played a really good team role this year at casey, he hasnt been the focal point all year, and who knows maybe this is good for cooky in the long run because he is learning to play other positions... we probably wont draft him based on his age, but i really think he would have been a positive influence down there for the young blokes , fev wasnt an amazing pack marker or anything, but 1on1 and especially on the lead in his prime he was the best in the AFL, who are watts and cook and that learning there craft from?? josh mahoney?? dean bailey??? we need someone down there showing what it takes to be a KEY FWD and if he even teaches them 1 thing about footy it will have been a success

Come on guys, Bailey is looking out for the interests of the MFC! The one position on the ground we still haven't nailed down for the future, is Full Forward! With Fev playing at Casey planted at Full Forward, it is putting back the development of Cook and Fitzpatrick who both have been targeted by the club as future players who can fill that role for us!

I am 100% behind Bailey on his comments. Who cares about Fev kicking 11. How many did Cook kick? That's what I'm more interested in! I couldn't give a stuff about the Casey players, and that includes Fev. When I watch Casey play, I am there purely to watch the Melbourne listed players and rookies. Bailey's comments just back up the fact that Fev will not be playing for the MFC next year! And for that, I am glad...

What he said.

What's the point of bringing Fev in for a potential short term gain for a year when it takes up a spot on our list for someone who will hopefully be playing for us for 10 years? While I wish him all the best in his recovery he went to Brisbane for a fresh start and that went pear shaped very quickly. No point in taking a gamble on him when the potential benefits are minimal anyway.

Fev wasn't an amazing pack mark (like you said) or a good trainer or possessed of a good attitude to the club/team/game. There's nothing he could teach the young guys that they couldn't get from us hiring Bradshaw or Hall as forward coaches. Teaching requires putting your ego aside and elevating the interests of others above your own. Now that's two things Fev has never displayed even the slightest ability to do.

All of us who have played footy should know that there are some guys who are very good at certain parts of the game but have absolutely no bloody idea why they're good at them or even what it is they're good at. They play on instinct and that's it. Fortunately for them their instincts are good and they're physically capable of taking advantage of them. That sums up Fevola. Not a footy brain (or a regular one) in his head, just a lot of good instincts (regarding a very limited part of the game) and the physical attributes to make the most of them.

My understanding is the MFC didn't want Fev, but Casey did and there was nothing we could do to stop them. I remember Cam Schwab expressing his concern at the likihood Fev would end up at Casey. While we are affiliated to Casey, we don't control the decision making at their club.

Is this different to Collingwood and Geelong who have greater control over their VFL clubs?

Simple answer: yes.
Complex Answer: Our alignment means we can play our unselected players at Casey in return for sponsoring them. We have a closer connection to our VFL side than most, in that Brad Gotch is the coach of Casey 1's and also our development coach. We do not have any direct control of Casey, but we can threaten to disassociate with them (or at least change the nature of our relationship) if they do stuff we don't like.
Collingwood and Geelong's VFL sides are actually a part of their club, run by the club, explicitly for the club, rather than to win VFL games, which is just a handy byproduct. If Chris Scott didn't want the Falcons to select a washed up ex-AFL player, then it would be so. They have direct control, we have indirect nagging at best.

You guys made a really strong move to ensure that your team win or lose is using players that will be there over the next five years.

Couldnt see a reason to suddenly reverse that in favour of Fevola.

At 30 you need to offer leadership on top of what you can do on a football field.

New coach wouldnt put his first year anywhere near Fevola and we know Bailey wont.

In a thin draft, you'd imagine someone would take a punt. But not us, although we need a decent forward.

Put it this way, do you want him with you, or against you?

Fevola WILL be playing top grade football next year, it's too embarassing for the AFL if he doesn't. It's also too embarassing for him, and the AFL, if he doesn't have a serious crack.

Sign him up now! (I know, not possible until draft)

Would Scully do a runner if he knew he'd be punching the ball forward to Fevola, instead of anyone else we have on offer?????????

This is an amazing opportunity for the MFC to sign a genuine superstar of the game.

All you 'youth freaks', go and find me 1 team in the last 10 years that has been able to win a flag without signing a serious player

Now, tell me seriously, you don't want Fevola?

I don't want Fevola.

11 goals against pretty much the weakest VFL team in the competition is nothing to take notice of.

Watts will be 3-4kg's heavier next year, Cook will get some chances. No need to change our direction.

Fevola will not be around to help us win a premiership either.

7. Now, tell me seriously, you don't want Fevola?

1. We would only come up against him once, maybe twice? Big deal.

2. But will he play well? Will he actually add any value to the team he joins? What influence will he have on the players around him?

3. No, no, no.

4. I think he would run faster.

5. A genuine, 30 year old, self confessed gambling addict who's last attempt at a fresh start at AFL level ended in tatters.

6. How many years do you think we can get out of him? He won't even be around when we are truly vying for a premiership. Also, Fevola is a serious player?

7. I don't.

On Twitter he has been asked whether there is any chance of being at Carlton and GWS.

His frank answer has been NOT A CHANCE MATE.

Wondering if he has asked around the traps about his prospects and been told that no one is interested. Looks like he knows AFL is over.

After yesterday's loss, I had a fleeting moment of "Maybe it's worth the risk" but in all reality, our biggest problem was our midfield getting totally smashed especially around the stoppages.

Anyone starting to come around even further?

Think he would have won us todays game, as far too often when we bombed it long today no one could take a pack mark or atleast leave some carnage.

And guarantee Fev would have snagged the 2 that green missed

Another six against Werribee today. Doing it very consistently.

Have to admit that he is doing everything right on the field and not attracting any bad news off the field.

Cant see you guys reversing your policy of youth and if you got a first time coach to the club he wouldnt want to be taking the board on in regards to Fevola.

I think someone may be interested though by the end of the year.

We didn't have any crumbers today anyway nick. The ball came to ground in dangerous spots quite often and all our medium forward just stood and watched while Richmond whisked it away.

Fev would be seriously tempting if he were 3 years younger but I just can't see his body holding up. Having said that, I have no idea how is body is holding up at the moment and obviously if any club were going to take him they would do their due medical diligence ...

Yeah thats true, we do seriously lack a crumber, but i think once you have a proper structured forward line the job of the crumber will become alot easier as our forward entries will be more predictable

6 weeks ago i would of voted no, but now i would be all for it. His fitness has obviously improved and is shown by his good results in the last few weeks. I would be all for rookie listing Fev but i doubt it will happen. People will say he won't be apart of next premiership but geez he could help us get there.
