Blueprint

Keep Bolton
Judd tells him to play big bodies in the middle (kennedy silvagni) and to make moves early rather than after opposition run on
Replace assisstants with an ex senior coach
Rotate some kids through the 2s
Play 3 tall forwards and Kreuzer
Use Silvagni, setterfield or Macreadie in the Grigg role

I said it will improve and it has dramatically. Just time now. The talent is there and another big body or 2 will really help
What has improved? A few extra games have been put into Dow, SPS etc. That’s improvement to you?

Our midfield is basically the exact same as last year. Cripps carrying a bunch of kids with slight frames. You think another year is enough to make drastic improvements size wise? Once again we’re unlikely to attract anyone of note in the midfield due to a poor win loss record.

Statistically we are still awful in the middle. 17th in disposals per game for the second year in a row. 17th in uncontested possessions for the second year in a row. Dead last in inside 50s back to back years.

Midfield is the biggest issue. Not talent but size and experience. In 12 months it won't be an issue. 12 months ago it was much worse

So why don't we have Ed and Murphy contest centre bounces more often? or perhaps Thomas? Why did we get rid of Kerridge? Is it really advisable to have all 175cm of Zac fisher to be our second choice mid to fight for centre bounce clearances?

As of end of round 7, fisher had attended 6.8X the number of centre bounces as Marc Murphy, 14.6X than that of Ed Curnow and Thomas has largely been unsighted ( <5 after round 7). Is this really an appropriate distribution of tasks given that we are lacking size and experience through the middle?

Rubbish, there are candidates available:

- Blake Caracella

- Justin Longmuir

- Nathan Bassett

Just to name a few.
Blake Caracalla is the only one of those worthy of a top gig.

But Bolton took over a mess and has only just completed the main part of the rebuild. We have the youngest list in the league. Give him a chance to see it through. By end of 2020 we will know and if it’s not working or not - the list will have enough talent and still be young that if Bolton hasn’t seen vast improvement then we look at other options.

Look at Richmond and Collingwood over past couple of years. Had they had the impatience of posters on here calling for Bolton’s blood - would they have won a flag and come close to winning one respectively - if Hardwick was sacked at end of 2016 and Buckley end of 2017.

The last 15 years have been tough. We have made mistake after mistake. But I think most can see that we have made the hard calls but the right calls since end of 2014. We are not aiming to make up the numbers from 4th to 10th, we are looking at a decade of being a contender.

Let’s hope the club can be patient and calm and stay united. It seems to be the biggest key to being a successful club.

We have Kennedy, Lang, Fasolo, Cunners and Ed Curnow that can be thrown into the midfield to help Cripps now. Also we could select a mature midfield option in mid year draft.
Keep the skinnny , inexperienced talented youngsters on the outside so that they’re not pulverized every game.

Can't see Fasolo being there. I'd throw Newman and/or Charlie in at centre bounces to help out

Cripps is elite
Looking forward to seeing the following after 50 plus games and another 1-2 pre seasons. Awesome talent
Kennedy
Cuningham
Dow
SPS
Fisher
Setterfield
O'Brien
Walsh
Stocker

Maybe
Lang
Pickett
Gibbons
Cottrell

It's not only the individual names but their ability to be able to help each other. When they have that physical ability watch out
Another 1-2 mature strong bodies to help out for 12-36 months would really make a difference. May get 1 in mid season

Agree - I do think we should have had Ed in there on the weekend at the start to at least halve the contest. That was a blunder by our coaches to go up against a quality team so young when they were fired up from the week before.

Hopefully they learn from that.

Make no mistake … Newman can football.

Setterfield Stocker & Walsh? 3 top end talented players. Patience
You weren’t talking about talent. You were talking about size and experience being a problem.

Tell me how Walsh, Setterfield etc are going to improve the midfield in that area quickly? A few months in the gym won’t have them looking like GWS midfield for example.

And patience? Spare me. Do you want to waste anymore of Cripps career? Do you have any interest in attracting talented players and keeping our own talented players at Carlton?

I’m not asking for instant finals success but if we keep up this level of play and nobody significant is added to the midfield next season will be a carbon copy of this one and the last.

What a bizarre thing to post.

After all this time ….. really? He has posted more bizarre things trust me ;)

We love him though … he is ours :)

why? he's told you 40 billion times already.........
He's spouted the same quotes about the team improving, but this is specifically the size and experience of our midfield. Im struggling to see any proof of improvement in this area.

Yes I was. Was always talking about talent and have always said we need some experience to help. Been very consistent on this

Never said anything about improving quickly.

From what? 2nd year player without a pre season. Will be a very very good player

Perhaps, just perhaps, a second year player without a pre-season should be be better managed so that he isn't attending so many centre clearances (where you are more likely to be smashed in a contest). There has been a clear downtrend in Dows effectiveness over first 9 rounds indicating he is struggling, yet we persist on playing a super fit curfew away from the contest?

not his role to prove anything to you - just keep repeating to yourself "I'm right, I know I'm right" ........you'll be fine

Maybe they believe he needs to work through it and learn?

End of 2020 is a long time away.

Judgement for Bolton will come by the end of this season. It must.

The absolute thrashings are vicious, and some of ours in the past year have been incredible:

- Round 4 - 2018 North, 86 points
- Round 7 - 2018, Adelaide, 55 points
- Round 8 - 2018, Melbourne, 109 points
- Round 13 - 2018, Fremantle, 57 points
- Round 16 - 2018, Brisbane, 65 points
- Round 17 - 2018, St Kilda, 64 points
- Round 18 - 2018, Hawthorn, 72 points
- Round 20 - 2018, GWS, 105 points
- Round 23 - 2018, Adelaide, 104 points

- Round 7 - 2019, North, 58 points
- Round 9 - 2019, GWS, 93 points

There is NO EXCUSE for those results.
Appalling, absolutely appalling.

The evidence is clear, Brendon Bolton simply is not a good coach.

I suspect the reason we were prepared to trade our 1st pick is because we already have a trade / free agent target..

Just pointing out you were wrong about Buckley and the supposed "upward/improving profile" in his first 4 years of senior coach at Collingwood.
On what basis are you judging Buckley to have not improved the list he inherited over his first four years? Ladder position and wins? Interesting that Bolton is the only coach afforded the right to not be judged by such criteria.

not his role to prove anything to you - just keep repeating to yourself "I'm right, I know I'm right" ........you'll be fine
I'm asking for someone to back up their statements with a semblance of validity. How is that unfair?
