Brent Harvey - 400 Games

I was looking at a thread from 2010 the other day and posters were talking about how Harvey would be finishing up soon. That was 5 years ago. :p
Fletcher's player thread on the Essendon board started back in 2007 and the first few posts are "let's hope he gets to 300 games", "maybe 2 more seasons".

When was the last time he missed a game due to injury, or an extended period from injury.

Just amazing that he just continues with no soft groins in sight. Should play on next year again. Would have broken the games record next year if he didnt get himself suspended so often.
He missed when he was tackled v the Tigers and dislocated his elbow. Missed 7 games in 2009. No soft tissue that I can remember.

Dislocated elbow back in '09.

Basically his only injury.

Phenomenal effort.

Champion.

Don't like him as a player, but he's been a champion of the game for many years.

Great effort to get to 400 though. Remember the state game that was mentioned in the OP, wet crappy day, kicked 5 from memory and really established himself as a player.

What amazes me most about Harvey, is at his age and after so many games, he still has his pace.

Not a dig at Fletcher (seriously), but I'm just pleased he wasn't dragged to it. Harvey is speeding past 400.

Both Fletcher and Boomer were best 22 (and easily) at the time that they played their 400th game. Terrific effort from both players.

Hopefully Boomer will go on and beat Tuck's record next season. His form this year warrants another season.

Well, of the three others ahead of him, only Tuck won his match.

Against North :D

Boomer is the only one to have won all his milestone games so far including debut. One or two other managed that in 350+ games I think.

Tuck lost his debut but won all his other milestone games.

But what will it achieve other than the games record ?

Tuck was at least contributing to Hawthorn's success.
Harvey while being a durable player in his own right, is not going to help North Melbourne lift the premiership cup in 2015, 2016 or beyond.

A lot of people don't like to class him as a champion, but when you stack the numbers up it's not a bad little CV.

Cant play according to 2/3rds of big footy.

He can help set a standard for training and preparation for the young kids coming through. Tuck was a good player but Harvey is every bit as good if not better. Some players get lucky as to who they play with.

Was it the club's idea to do the BOOMER 400 guernseys or his?

Not sure why it matters really, it's pretty poor either way. Sure it's a great individual achievement, but really they're putting one bloke above others at a time when their season is still on the line.

Do you seriously think any AFL player, no matter how he is perceived outside the club, would voluntarily ask to have their nickname on a jumper? People say there's no such thing as a silly question, but yours is the exception to that rule.
