Brent Prismall vs Brent Moloney - Who will be the better player?

With prismall now playing a few games i think we can fairly vote on who you think will be the better player? I chose these two players because one they both got traded from geelong (where they were very highly regarded) and two they are very similar players.

Let's not forget moloney is two years older than prismall and has come off a full preseason whereas prismall has just come off a acl injury to play for a new club.

Must say I'm very surprised to see Moloney not polling at least as well as Prismall here - in fact, Moloney really ought to be a fair way ahead in this poll IMO.

Moloney gets as much of the ball as Prismall, with a higher efficiency rate, tackles FAR better than Prismall, achieves more inside 50s than Prismall, gets more contested possessions and wins more clearances than Prismall, and kicks the occasional goal, which Prismall hardly ever does.

Maybe the poll is distorted by a preponderance of votes from Essendon fans or something...

Prismall for me, Moloney is getting better and playing more (was plagued by injuries) but he was generally a one trick pony for me. Grab the ball and kick it long with no thought about where it was going as long as it was going forward.

I think you might be underestimating Beamer a bit though Herne - he's had a great season for us. And his efficiency has been as good as you could hope for.

Plus he's performing better than Prismall in almost every category there's a stat for...

They asked who will be the better player.Moloney may be a better player at the moment than Prismall,but some people think Prismall will be the better player at the end of their careers.

moloney- 86 games
prismall- 32 games.

much more improvement in prismalls game then moloney's from here
and the stats are pretty much identical really, your saying moloney is ahead in disposals, he has averaged 0.1 more disposals....

the one thing im critical of prismall for is he rarely seems to kick long, he has a great kick but only uses it to cover 30-40m, he kicks arent short but always in themid range which just dont hurt the opposition as much. moloney seems to kick long a lot more.

Both are good players, & when Prismall was up for trade I was hoping Melbourne would get them. Hopefully Moloney becomes the better player, for the obvious reason, but his groin looks like a walking time bomb to me. Prismall still seems to be finding his feet again after being out for so long with that ACL, but he's still a good player.

But I don't really care who's going to be better at the end of their career, I just want it to be Moloney.

The fact that Prismall had missed the whole pre-season and didn't play senior football until rd 11 does do the statistics justice.

Moloney has done well because for a while there he looked like he'd be lost to injuries but Prismall has far more class and will be more damaging with his possesions.

Yeah that's fair enough. Point accepted JubJub. Maybe Prismall will end up better, maybe he won't. I'd still back Beamer at this stage though.

That's a reasonable summation as well - but Beamer's come on in leaps & bounds this year. If he continues along the same improvement curve... well, we'll have to wait and see what happens from here.

This shows you havent watched him this season. He may have played like that a few years ago, but he is a different player now. He has transformed himself and his game to become our number 1 inside midfielder at Melbourne, and he is usually doing the grunt work as opposed to getting it and kicking long.
He's averaging 4-5 clearances a game, 6 1st possessions, 5-6 tackles, 5 1%s, and averaging 24 disposals. Very good stats.
I'd go as far to say that he's probably been the most under-rated player in the league this year, and will likely win the Melbourne B&F.

As for Prismall, he has been good aswell. Moloney is comfortably the better player at the moment, but Prismall is alot younger and in all likelihood will pass Moloney in the future.

I wouldn't say most underrated player in the league but he's improved a lot and not many people notice that he's not just banging it long like he did in 2005 when he led the league for long kicks. He's got a much more controlled kick on him now.

Can't say I have noticed, he was good against us but I remember his favourite being the long kick to no one in particular when he was at Geelong. I haven't voted personally, from their careers at Geelong I'd say Prismall was a better disposal but Moloney was harder at it, and Pris worked under very little pressure when he was a Cat.

Please guys dont forget im asking who will be better in the future. yes moloney is doing better this year (marginally) but prismall is 2 years younger, has much less experience 33 games to 86 and prismall hasnt had a full year let alone a full pre-season. put all this together and you dont have to be a genious to know that prismall will not only be better than moloney in the future but he will be up there with the elite in the afl in the future.

I'm sorry what stat sheet were you looking at because the one i gave you the link for moloney was leading by 0.7, 1.9, 1.9, 0.1 and 1.6 in disposals, kicks, handballs, goals and clearences whereas prismall is leading in marks by 1.3. im not sure about you but to me that isnt every stat and its only marginally!!!

Prismall is coming of a knee recon and playing in a new team yet he has still been bloody good this year, and his kicking is unbelivable, already one of the best kicks in the side. And he's only 22 .
