Did you see the Lions game?? He was on Brown for 5 minutes in the last quarter and Brown kicked two goals. Great game ?? Or in the first quarter when he handballed into fresh air and turned over the ball for a Lions goal.

I already commented on the Richmond game and his up and under kicking and lack of vision and backed it up with an example. Forgot to mention his mark in the forward line which he tried to juggle forward to gain a metre. Should have been called play on. Anyway he then turns his back to walk back. Not sure if you have ever played footy but in u/8's you are taught not to turn your back.

I stand by what I said especially Yarran who has been sensational running out of the backline.

If I was coaching against the blues I would be rapt to see the ball in Thorntons hands.

:thumbsu: Spot on.

Can not believe some supporters could be so dumb. His disposal is terrible.

the WORST 150+ game player ever.

Pots and kettles.. I love how people pick out 2 or 3 of Thorntons bad disposals for the year and say his disposal is terrible.. Simpsons disposal is pretty suspect especially in front of goals. His field kicking caused us to draw against Essendon.. Yarran kicked it out on the full yesterday, stuffed a few kicks and has stuffed a lot of kicks this year. Judd, Scotland, Waite, and even Gibbs miss a lot of set shots for goals. Bower can butcher the ball along with Carrazzo. No one is perfect. But in general, Thornton usually hits his target and can do so with both feet. Saying he is one of the worst 150 game players ever shows you have no clue. Its just a dumb, uneducated comment. If you guys are going to pick out 2 or 3 bad kicks from a game, how bout being fair and pointing out all the other bad kicks from everyone else.

Absolutely agree with this. If Thornton had kicked a few of the balls that Yarran did on Sunday, people would have been calling for his head (not that I have anything against Yarran).

Thornton showed a bit up forward yesterday, but he is much more suited to defence, he reads the play very well and can take a good contested mark. Would have liked Ratts to have sent Henderson down forward for a bit yesterday.

Patient Thornton learns his lesson

Remembering that Ratten didn't want him to leave, and clear on what he had to do to get another game, Thornton played for the Northern Bullants, found some form and was back against St Kilda in round seven. ''I wasn't playing good footy last year, I need to say that, but 'Ratts' was good. He told me everything I needed to do. I knew I didn't have much consistency.

I was coming in and out of games and my body work probably wasn't at an acceptable level. I felt like I was playing well in the twos, but I couldn't make it translate to the ones, and that was the most frustrating thing about it,'' he said. ''There was a chance I might have been delisted.

Was very good in contests today, if i recall correctly the soccer poster Garlett kicked was a result of Thornton winning a two on one.

Definately a lot better of a player then many want him to be.

Kept Maxwell client, below his usual 20 possies. :thumbsu:

One goal as a key position forward is pretty modest, though. Too often Eddie Betts was left alone in the f50 attempting contest marks.

Thought he did ok today, I've been on his back for a while now. Was disappointed when he threw the ball, then turned his back to argue with the umpire allowing the Collingwood player to run right past him. That was terrible.

In the forwardline, he did well in that 2 on 1 contest but apart from that, nothing to start singing his praises. In the second quarter he gave another poor effort where he could've taken a diving mark, instead he elected to stay on his feet and try and mark the ball at his ankles. Guess what? he didn't complete it and it resulted in a turn over.

Matty Watson gets a chance. He was pretty poor today, but it was only his second game and the pace of the game he really struggled with and I suppose against the top team who apply a lot of pressure he should be forgiven. The instructions should be for him to find a long target and if there isn't one, then kick it long down the boundary line. Those short passes aren't working for him, twice Daisy cut him off, you would think you'd learn your lesson after the first time, but anyway, he needs some game time at AFL level to adjust to the pace of it.

Plenty of us (including myself) thought he was finished at Carlton prior to the season. The only thing that was going to save him was an attitude adjustment and a committment to trying to fit in with the teams structure, and I am glad to say that he has done both of those and has been quite handy for us this year. I'm not sure if he's in our best 22 with a healthy team, but he has certainly been a handy depth player for us this year.

Straight out of Jammo's mouth HE LOVES BRETT IN THE BACKLINE WITH HIM.

Helps make Jammo's life easier down back when he is there. I would have Thornton in the best 22. He read's the ball coming in brilliantly when the rest of the backline is fit and out there.

I am not sure I like the move of Thornton forward but can understand why they did go this way yesterday.

I think we need to keep our defensive structure going forward and our best defensive structure is having Thornton as our 3rd man up.

I cant understand why we use him to support a good defender in Jamison but dont have him there against the best team in the league and supporting someone like Henderson!

Thought he was very handy today!

Has been very handy all year! At the moment, is the key forward that consistently competes and brings the ball to ground. Has ability to kick a few any week too. Has chased, punched from behind and been a genuine team player.

Very pleased with him.

Glad a club stalwart in TBird is getting some rewards for his efforts to come out the other side of the darkest period in our teams history. .. Much kudos to both he and Ratts for turning things around from last year. ..
