Are we paying his salary because it was backloaded and therefore we're paying the average difference after underpaying him in previous years?

Otherwise, clubs could backload contracts, then trade them off in their final year to avoid paying full price.

"To lose Brett's really disappointing. To see him go was sad for me and for the footy club. Brett's in a good space with where he's gone now and where he's at and, as a mate, that's the best thing," Riewoldt said.

just goes to show the extent of hte boys club at the rfc, this is why we are shit!! coaches too matey with the players, players too matey with eachother

:D

Does us paying his salary come out of our salary cap still?
You betcha. In effect if we're paying him $150k - $200k per year for 3 years that's $900k to $1.2mil that gws will have to spend over us for a future 1st rounder which should've been used for meatball prestia so we could've gotten will Brodie.

on the main board there is a thread of people saying funny experiences of meeting footballers.

''Tigers were playing a game against our team in the pre season when I was 16, they were walking across from our school and one of my female friends yelled go Carlton and Brett Deledio told her to **** off''

See, i respect Brett for that. Should of spat on her as well.

Would prefer 2 first rounders next year where there are highly rated KPP. Next year's draft is meant to be better, especially at the top end.

Still overpaid for Prestia and could have possibly traded 6 + 27 to Sydney for 14 + 17 and Nankervis. Given 14 for Prestia and gone to the draft with 17, 46, 64 instead of 27 and 56. Used the future 2nd on Caddy.

Edit this was on the AFL web site.

Why 3 years? His contract with us expired next year.
I could cop us making up part of his salary next year but past that it's gws problem.

Would place little trust in what a teenage girl would say , having once been a teacher . And if he did, then that's okay by me too!

Well anyone with brains would realise we should've only paid part of his contract for next year as that's his last contracted year with us. However this is Richmond we're talking about. Check it out we're paying for his next 3 years. Baffling how stupid decicions are constantly made at punt rd. Oh well I'm sure deledio will be elite at gws on our money and meatball prestia and cotchin will be above serviceable on millionaires money. We'll prob finish 9th on the back of a soft draw not on softwicks coaching. Then lose dusty for pick 11 compensation. If we were smart we'd tank get pick 1 or 2 have will Brodie get fyfe and if dusty leaves get pick 2 or 3 as compo. Ah well the future of tigers is short term all about covering gale and Peggy bundies azzes.

I'm no internet nerd who can add links or whatever but AFL wesite Oct 26 Comment: The trade periods hidden agenda is one article. I've read it several places heard it on radio a few times and a book at my footy club played a few years at tigers recently and has all my info sorted

All say reported to not that we are in a factual sense. Like its reported tiger_of_old is a man when that is clearly not true. :p

Are you suggesting we are paying all of Lids final year over three years?so assuming for simple calculations he was on 600k ,then you're suggesting we are paying GWS 200k a year for three years.
If true then he really wanted out badly. Untenable is being nice.

A half decent coach would have talked his best player into staying, not suggested which club he should move to.:mad::(

Lids isn't our best player. And a half decent coach would of extracted as much value as he could for a bloke who wanted out mid year.
Dimma has his faults but in this case, he did well.

The thing about the Lids trade that stands out like dog's balls - we're paying part of his contract to play for GWS! WTF?! Rationalise it all you like, but we're paying for the most accomplished and skilled player to play in our colours in the last ten years to play for another club. That is a fail. Who is at fault here? Lids or the club?

PS. If you've followed my posts, you know I love Lids. Trading Lids is one thing. Trading Lids and paying part of his contract makes no sense unless there is a real problem here and the trade is the solution.
I have no problem with it.Happens every now and again,Every club has done it.Got us a 1st rnd pick which otherwise we wouldn't have got.

Does us paying his salary come out of our salary cap still?
Yep,Just like when Buddy retires next year and the Swans face the prospect of including a retired player in their cap for the duration of his contract.;):D

In other words its all assumption on your behalf.

Not sure why you would think GC would accept 14 for Prestia or Geelong would accept a future second for Caddy.
