I kinda miss old Spudly myself.

His football knowledge was particularly wonderful. Such pearls of reason as bring Lloyd out of retirement, draft Cousins... Fisher for Captain - because beards are manly. His poetic wisdom and insight in proclaiming that "not all footballers is spuds" sums up my own deepest feelings on the topic more succinctly than I could ever muse.

One dude id love to meet IRL... just to try to understand the enigma wrapped in a riddle that is Starchamber.

Not sure I could honestly advocate for his return though.

If Starchamber is genuine, then he brings amusement value to some of you. If he is putting it on, then you are giving him an audience in which to drag down quality discussion. We mods don't like having to work too hard. We appreciate genuine funny as most are on board. If something seems deliberately perverse in order to be funny, it tends to turn away those here for intelligent discussion and complaints are made. As there are other sites for posters to go to, it is very difficult to strike a balance between not taking ourselves too seriously and maintaining some quality. Somewhere in the middle of a chess club meeting and a children's adventure playground would be cool.

Don't worry, we watch and we listen, we just don't always give in.

From time to time we encounter posters that are not easy to pigeon hole. We suspect, we suggest, we advice, we guide, we cajole, we despair. It is not just a matter of flicking a switch at every minor annoyance, or any mission to destroy freedom of speech. We huddle down in the mod bunker and consult. Once a decision is made, this is not the ETS, we need a lot of convincing to backflip.

It is all in the eye of the beholder obviously. My concern is that Starchamber seems to have been adopted as a mascot or a pet of sorts, rather than as a contributing poster. That might be doing him a disservice.

Some people really like that guy who swallows things and regurgitates them. Sure it is distasteful, but it provides entertainment value for a few minutes and they don't have to live with him.

I don't think I've ever read a single post from Starry that was offensive toward anyone on the board and yet he absorbed massive doses of vitriol from just about everyone else.

The guy was entertainment value and you could easily just avoid his threads if you really found them too bizarre.

Man, if people weren't so determined to jump into his threads and dump all over the guy, then they would have rapidly disappeared off the front page, never to be seen again. It's ironic that the people who most despised the chamber man were the ones who caused him to have threads lasting ages on the front page; simply by hating him so much that they felt compelled to tell him at every opportunity.

On the evidence I've seen, the number of posters who fit this criteria are in the minority and I haven't seen too many of them disappear as a result of Starchamber's posts.
