On the front page of the Age Sports section today, it confirmed in very simple terms that;

Jon hay would be a kangaroo next year
Daniel Motlop to Port Adelaide
Byron Pickett to Melbourne
Steven Armstrong to Port Adelaide

Obviously there is a few picks thrown in there as well as sweeteners.

The one i look at, Armstrong for Pickett plus probably a draft pick, is an absolute steal for the Demons. Byron Pickett is a Norm Smith Medallist, and has a feared reputation as a hardened player. People must think twice when playing against Pickett, in fear of his bone crunching tactics. The dees should be more than happy to part ways with armstrong and a draft selection. Pickett is exactly what the Demons need; someone with a bit of mongrel in them, with a bit of pure strength and hardness. Pickett will deliver, he better bloody deliver! For Demons supporters, i just hope he can play some good footy while smashing through a few opponents.

Consider this for a hardened midfield/centre line: Pickett, Moloney, Sylvia and McLean. If these guys live up to there hardened expectations, Melbourne can ditch the 'soft' tag

Yup, and throw in Johnstone and Bruce as outside receiving/goalkicking midfielders... just hope Sylvia and Bruce stay fit.

I'm happy with that deal (if it goes through)... Arma isn't great.

If we don't send on #28 in some stupidly overpriced deal such as that indicated, Pickett for #28 and Armstrong is OK by me too.

Can't see what Port see in Armstrong. I think the Dees clearly win on this one, even with pick 28 thrown in. Pickett is a proven matchwinner, with a good 4 years left in the tank. Armstrong's only upside is his age (21). Maybe Port can work wonders with him.

Still, I can talk, my club is after Trent ********ing Sporn!

As soon as Pickett does anything remotely hard.....4 weeks at the tribunal. His record and playing style do not mix with the new tribunal system.

This must be some strange new definition of the word "confirmed" that I wasn't previously aware of.

Why do Melbourne trade all their hard nuts anyway? Peter Walsh (p.s thanks guys!). Scott Thompson and now Armstrong, I guess Brent Moloney's next?

note 'confirmed in very simple terms' meaning that it was 'basically confirmed' as in 'almost confirmed' as in 'the trade had almost happened' get it?

No, each of those statements means something significantly different to the last. Why not actually say what you mean?

Thats a stupid comment, Walsh only left because the Dees said he wouldn't get games.

Melbourne hasn't had a genuine hard player since the last time Carl Ditterich played for them.

If they get Pickett, it won't work and it won't last. ;)

Raman: the trade has almost been confirmed! how much simpler can that be! It is on the verge of completion! Stop disecting everything and analysing it, you know what it means and i am sure most people would get the drift! The trade is almost certain to go ahead and four players will be playing at different clubs next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that simple enough for you boy?

There are a lot of `almost confirmed' deals that don't happen.

stui magpie, why do you say that? Give account for your suggestion. It may go along fine, it may not. Trading can be positive or negative. Just the fact melbourne has a hardened player in the mix with a reputation is relatively exciting. Plus Byron can play football, he has showed that. Hopefully he can be consistent.

Prove it.

All the exclaimation marks in the world won't necessarily make it so, buddy.

I dont even know the reasons for him leaving Port. Reasons? Anyone?

For one thing it hasn't been confirmed that he's leaving Port, indeed the latest word from the club is to the opposite effect. Which is one of the things that makes this whole deal, as yet, unconfirmed.

What a stupid inane comment! Do you mean Walsh who was traded to Port Adelaide after giving Melbourne great service? If that is so you are a fool who hides behind a pseudonym and is probably a 2 foot midget with the heart of a pea.

Indeed it can be positive and negative. My theory is that the Melbourne club is incompatible with genuinely hard players. If he ends up there, Pickett will find it very difficult to figure out what's expected of him and will fluctuate between getting suspended for hits and being booed and dragged for not hitting when he has the chance. The poor bugger won't know what way is up and I'm tipping the whole thing will end in tears.

Brad Miller is genuinely hard as are Moloney, Sylvia, Maclean and Whelan. Neita can crack the odd collarbone too.

My theory is that the Magguires are generally incompatible with talented players.
