Was this one of Adam Cooney's hypothetical Mega Trades?

Certainly a feather in his cap if it was.

Probably wanting an extra pick. I rate Doug Kerr and if they know another club will big him late, may be they are protecting that scenario by just taking him with the extra selection.
We don't have an extra list space unless we actually don't rookie Markov and Johnson (but we will).

We are going to use three picks and then pass on the second two, so there's no reason for us to have done this other than a reciprocal trade with Brisbane incoming once the draft starts - Brisbane couldn't carry in #66 and get the points from it because they didn't have enough list spaces, but they can take on extra picks for points once the draft begins.

The way I read you currently have four rookies, which become six with Markov and Johson, and 33 players on the primary list, that gives you room for five more players on the list, salary cap space permitting.

33 on the senior list, 6 on the rookie list equals 39 players.

List size across both lists is 42, so that makes 3 national draft picks and that's it.

You can't have 38 on your senior list if you have 6 rookies, the two extra rookies come at the expense of two senior list spots.

My understanding was that you can have a maximum 44 players on the list, with a maximum of six rookies.

You can have up to 44.

36-38 senior
4-6 Cat A rookies
0-2 Cat B rookies

I wasn't including Cat Bs because they're not relevant to this discussion.

Between the senior list and Cat A rookies you can only have 42, so we can only use three draft picks if we intend to rookie Johnson and Markov.

The Cat B spots are completely separate, but FWIW we don't have an available Cat B spot either, as we have Wil Parker and intend to sign Alex Condon soon.
