Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Although Hasleby is a good player, the last thing we need is another slow inside midfielder with average kicking skills

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Pace Pace Pace. We need an injection of speed into the middle, players like Haselby, while useful, are just not what we need. He would only be replacing a similar player on our list. We are trading Apples for Apples instead of Apples for Speed !

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Speed seems to be the flavour of the month on here. Don't get obsessed with speed people. We have plenty in our squad atm. Have a look at the top 3 teams none of them are particularly quick. Skill will beat speed every day of the week. If we can get a skillful player with a bit of speed great if not I take the skillful guy every time.

On Haselby I would take him if he came at a reasonable price. He has been excellent this year getting the heavy tag each week. Freed up with the focus being on Black, Power and Rich he would be a great addition. He is good in and under which is something which we need and equally importantly he is very good forward. He can take a good mark and will score goals.

One guy who has dropped off everyone radar is King. Has had an injury interrupted year but this is a raw kid who has great speed and it seems he is looking like a player from reserves reports. Combine him with Hanley, Banfield and Hooper who are speedsters pushing for spots next year and I think speed is probably not going to be a huge issue.

I think Black is a good example of how footy smarts (knowing the right position to go to, etc) can make up for a lack or speed.

Sherman is probably an example of the opposite - quick player but less skilful upstairs.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

As far as speed goes, I think it is most important either behind the ball or in front of the ball. In the midfield, speed is great but there are far more important things to worry about. I'm keen to get speed into the side but I'd rather our first pick was used on ball winner with kicking skills. We've got Rich and Redden's skills will only improve. One more would really top the list off.

Also, for reasons identified earlier, I don't think we should rule out tall defenders or forwards. Right now, I'm confident about 1 (Henderson), fairly excited about another (Cornelius) and unsure about a few others. If another tall is the absolute best available at our pick, I say we should go with it.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

brisbane really need a forward to stop teams double and triple teaming bradshaw and brown

whether or not that be polkinghorne or someone else brisbane defitnetly need a good 3rd forward

Dustin Martin. His kicking on both feet is so good you can't tell his good foot from his bad! Also wins the hard ball and get lots of touches. First pick Dustin Martin.

IMO he'll go way before our pick. I rekon Tapscott would be a great choice. How good would it be Tapscott, Rich and Drummond sending 60m laserlike bombs to Brownshaw.

I know everyone on the draft and trading board plus the phantom drafts are predicting that we will pick up Tapscott. I am actually warming to the idea. Rich and Tapscott in our mdifield sending beautiful passes to our forwards for 10 plus years. It is exciting. I wonder if we will pick him up if he falls to our pick.

Tapscott also fills another need for us, in that he's a third forward type. The only problem is that he's practically Polkinhorne with a slightly better disposal.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Yeah there is, we already have Polka for that role. Lets draft a player type we need.

So a versatile inside midfielder/medium forward who can deliver the ball 60m isn't someone we need?

We do have other needs, like some pace & skill in the middle, and another crumbing forward. But I reckon it should still be best available first up.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

One poster in the draft thread has us taking a ruckman with our first pick:eek:

Pick 1 must be a classy midfielder/small forward.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

I admit, i made that comment knowing nothing about any of the potentional draftees. But really, we need a couple of players with pace, they dont have to be lightning quick small forwards, but if we can get a good inside goal kicking mid, then yes that is a good choice, but i would at least like them to have a bit of acceleration to help get us out of a bit of traffic. I find we are very one paced in the middle, and it hurts us.

Exactly. See chopperduck, he is a player of need. Once again jumping to conclusions and assuming stuff. You don't even know who the player is. Very brave of you.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

On reading Quigley's description of Tapscott in the draft thread would be very happy to pick him up if Martin is gone.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Quigley, where do you think Rohan will go? I there any slight possibility that he may slip down to our draft pick (ala Rich) . He would be the perfect player for us.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Priority is still some pace, we lack it badly, and if we were taking someone without it over someone with it, i would be disappointed. However, exceptions are made if the player is good enough. I dont see much of the draftees, so i can only go off what other people say, and pace wasn't mentioned in the discription of the player. That was my concern. If he looks like a gun, then i wouldn't like to see us pass on him for a lower calibre player just because of pace, even though it is, i think, a priority.

I always look forward to Quigley's write ups on the draftees for this reason.

Don't forget Banfield. That kid is lightning & will definitely play senior footy next year.

Rohan has come from nowhere this year and is the kind of flashy pick that us amateurs love but his limited body of work makes him difficult to get an accurate read on. What the professionals think is hard to judge and it is quite possible that BF overrates him. So it is entirely possible that he could fall to us although I think is likely that he will be taken before us. He is an intriguing package.
