We should get it done… and if we don’t it will always be remembered as letting the greatest opportunity slip, but I think the boys are ready now
Strongly disagree with your post. Nobody is guaranteed a GF win no matter how good the side is or how good the opportunity presents itself. Yes we should get it done but in a 2 horse race, anything can happen on the day.

If we beat them, watch out for next year when their fans feel that a pass mark will be another prelim and/or a grand final. The expectation will be intense.

Bring it on I say. They are tall, extremely tall and Martin is a third tall. We make their disposal difficult we will burn them on the turnovers. Their turnovers against Melbourne was ridiculous and against us we will make them pay. We are also a very good contested team so choose your poison Blues. This is the real test and that is what our boys have learnt over the years. FInals experience is valuable and even though you get a team from time to time who goes against the narrative this isn’t it. I actually have a lot of faith in our boys and our preparation. Gabba is a fast dec/m and speed kills. We will shut down Saad like we did last time to nullify any run from the back line. The midfield battle will be great to watch and reckon it will be an even battle and will ebb and flow through out the game. Let’s go boys!! It’s our time!
Dev Rob is the perfect match up for Saad. Given the bulk of the Carlton midfield I'm comfortable keeping him out of the guts, certainly early in the game. But think he has the pace to go with Saad.

Carlton have gone surprisingly tall.
Curnow, McKay, TDK, Martin, Pittonet

Just Motlop as a genuine small since they dropped Owies. Fogarty might play as a defensive forward on Coleman.
I think it is important that Harris is not dragged up the field by McKay, leaving Dizzy 1 v 1 on Curnow. Dizzy has plenty of experience and can do a role, but Curnow could get loose. Our defence is usually more a team structured/zone type defence, so we need our best defender in the defensive 50, contesting and intercepting. Our small/mid defenders must be conscious of a carlton small, even Martin dropping out the back of a contested pack and having an open goal.

Their height advantage can be mitigated IF our midfield break even (and i believe they will). Hippy and Joe not to miss easy goals (which both have done at the GABBA recently) and our Hybrid third tall Cam imposing himself....oh yeah, and plenty of 'country road' playing, confident we score more than they will.

I don’t think they tag Neale. They tried it earlier in the year, and Hewett only held Neale to 20 disposals - and we still smashed them in the middle. Plus they’ve not really run a proper tag in recent months anyway.

Works for us
Yeah. It won’t be a hard tag. Just a run with role. Someone will run with Neale to try to make him accountable … it’s a prelim.

I think if Harris is forced to play close to goal this means Carlton will have the game on their terms. We really do want him higher up the ground as this allows him to intercept or force turnovers in better positions for us to rebound and score ourselves.

It would be good if he was able to position himself like this of his own accord, without having to follow McKay around, but I imagine we'll be stuck with that match up for large parts of the game. The test for Harris will be (a) whether he can beat McKay one on one and (b) if he is winning those battles, know when McKay is playing as a decoy to drag Harris away from dangerous intercepting positions.

It shapes as being a real game of cat and mouse, and much will depend on our front 12 being able to force poor/slow disposal from Carlton, which will allow Andrews to get into more advantageous positions.

Don't think Harris minds being dragged up the field. Gets a lot of his intercepts between the arcs.

Maybe so but it exposes dizzy/Lester badly if they have to compete against curnow with little tall support.

It’s going to be hard containing curnow. Athletic and powerful. Should be a good battle.

Carlton always have good support up here and being a Prelim and their first in 20 years heaps of them will have wanted to come up.
The split of 23K Lions & 14K Carlton is a disgrace... there are plenty of Lions members & supporters who wanted to go that could not get a ticket. If the game was in Melbourne & the split was 62% Carlton / 38% Brisbane there would be hangings.
That said, the best way to give Carlton the Jimmy Gritts........ a) Get on top early to shut their feral crowd up. b) Win & Win Well.;)

That is why I would play Lester on Curnow and Dizzy on McKay and Leave Harris on The resting Ruckman to be able to run off when required.

Rule to have equal ticket allocation to members in finals favours big vic clubs who get the 'excess' tickets that interstate sides can't sell at the MCG, but still have rusted on members who will travel to take up their allocation interstate.
