Classic case of Tennis Australia trying to needle people to get fundingThey wont be playing tennis in Melbounre last week of July and first week of August. Too much rain and too cold.
They will upgrade Pat Rafter Centre. It was built to host male and female tournaments with 64 players not 128.

Thats nice but you need more that 3 courts to process all those games in 14 or 15 days. They do have 3 courts with rooves on them....
But yeah that was just a money grab. This is the time to put your hand out and beg.
You could, just. 1st round would take 4 days, but once you get to the 3rd round you can fit them all in 1 day.Thats nice but you need more that 3 courts to process all those games in 14 or 15 days.
The news up here reported that for the Olympics, you only need three courts, of at least 15k, 10k and 5k capacity.Thats nice but you need more that 3 courts to process all those games in 14 or 15 days.
Roland Garos has that for its 3 main courts but Tokyo didn't have 3 like that. Their main court had 10,000. Would go against the smaller venues edict from IOC to force Brisbane to have tennis venues bigger than Tokyo. The news up here reported that for the Olympics, you only need three courts, of at least 15k, 10k and 5k capacity.
No idea how accurate that is.
Yeah it’s a weird one. And Brisbane doesn’t need three show courts like that long term, so you’d hope it’s not the case.Roland Garos has that for its 3 main courts but Tokyo didn't have 3 like that. Begs the question, what was in Brisbane's bid book, and if it was what Pat Rafter Arena has now, why was it approved?
Whilst similar, the 6 weeks difference in timing between when Sydney started mid September and Brisbane ends around 8th August, the difference is important because mid to late September to early October is the driest period in Sydney and in Brisbane July is the driest month and the rains dont start until late August. If they were going to move the tennis to another city, why not Sydney which has a facility which already successfully hosted an Olympic event at a similar time of the year to the Brisbane Games?
Sending the tennis to Sydney will have the same raim issues as Melbourne. Its just not as cold.
Marginally but not by much.So then, it's a better option - yes?
