Good get by Hine and the boys. We now have two great ruck prospects with Witts and Grundy. Just need a decent ruck coach, to get the best out of them. Maybe get Monkey back from the hawks.

Or Ottens what's he up to?

Do i remember correctly he stumbled and splattered when he was reading out pick 18? Couldn't get the damn numbers out quick enough hiney :D.
Good thing he was quick or those pesky guys with pick 19 might of pounced.
I think it was Kennedy that he stammered a bit on.

I wonder if witts and grundy are going to be able to play together in the same side and if so who the number 1 ruck will be.

Grundy has had lots of success up forward with limited games, i think with some practice he can become a very good forward who plays ruck for 30% of the game, that would work VERY well with witts taking 70% of the ruckwork then standing in the goal square

Have to agree with the One Eyed (not walking backwards) cat here. Don't get the issue with a Witts/Grundy combo at all, bemused in fact. What the puddy tat said, Witts No1 & Grundy relieving playing fwd for 70%.

Yep, I really thought that's who would take him.
Oh well, we'll just have to make do with him and Witts going forward...;)

Put it this way, if we were in Ports position and the were in ours, we probably wouldn't have taken him at that position, and they would have at 18. I still think top 10 is a little rich for a ruck unless they are of Nicnat freakery proportions.

Just looking at the highlights, some of that ruck work is sublime, hitting it at its highest point to players well in the clear, and if he's not hitting it down their throat it's in their direction. He's actually intimidating his opponent which Wood couldn't do in all the time he played for us, he actually has presence!!! Other great thing is he's developed physically, already 100kg at age 18, I think we have a beauty here. Some good contested marks in there as well, a lot of good body work. He's already played against men in the SANFL as well which is great for a ruckman.

I'm not exaggerating but he is one of the most promising draft picks we've had in years in my view. It's been so long since we drafted a ruck like this. I hope we get to see him early on, he almost looks ready.

Yeah, going by Rendell's comments before the draft he should be able to challenge for a spot pretty quickly. Giddy up!

It all seems so simple. Witts plays ruck while Grundy plays FF with Cloke motoring about between Grundy and the middle. Grundy is the answer to our dreams and the start of a new era in ruck strength at Collingwood. We've gone for speed, awareness and disposal skills with all four guys, so a big ruck/forward like Grundy is the perfect antidote and addition to our slippery, speedy fleet of gnomes. I am excited to see him play next year. Happy also that Emma Quayle got it right that he would drop to us.

Ruck strength? Ruck dominance!!

I'm having a great night MMD, not that I have the insight some do but I wanted Kennedy & we got Grundy as well!

I've said it before tonight but I'm ball bustingly happy!!:D:thumbsu::p:)

IMO..

Grundy ---------- <daylight> --------- Witts

Grundy will be our number one VFL ruckman, pushing for AFL selection on a regular basis (if not playing)
Witts will get serious VFL game time in the ruck, but will be in Grundy's shadow in 2013

As was said before by someone, I just hope they push each other to an extremely high level, as there will be room for them both in the next 2 years when Jolly and Lynch pull up stumps.

its gonna be hard to sleep tonight... *Grundy, out-muscles walnock, taps behind OH WHAT A TAP, KENNEDY GRABS, SNAPS AND GOALS!!! CARLTON ARE OUT OF THE FINALS RACE! WOWEE"

The thing i am most excited about is he (and kennedy to a lesser extent) just LOVE to work hard, I've heard big grundy loves the weights and does extra running sessions (that he drags along his mate kennedy for). This type of attitude, combined with his skills and physical ability is mouth watering.

How long till the nab cup dammit

Smashed it! I'm not often given to hyperbole but I reckon this has to be one of the best off-seasons in my memory. I'm not suggesting that Grundy will necessarily be a star but those highlights make Cam Wood look like Cinderella albeit against under-age or lower competition. Let's hope he can make the leap into the real stuff. Still pinching myself that he fell to us.
