We are more happy with Collingwoods investment thank you.
Since you obviously don’t know, and some of us do, here’s what happened:

The deal during trade week was that Collingwood was to pay 150k per year x 5 years in exchange for a second round selection. Due to all the moving pieces regarding the Jackson trade, the deal was shelved until late. Very late in the trade period, Lachie Hunter became available and the Demons were keen but they weren’t able to pay him and Grundy and stay under the cap. Melbourne then went to Collingwood and asked the Pies to pay a greater portion up front in order to facilitate both trades, as the Dees had to pay for the whole Hunter contract to get him for so cheap off the Dogs. Collingwood then had to delay the Mitchell dealings while they negotiated with Hawthorn how much each club would pay each year.

Collingwood are paying $600k this year for Grundy for Melbourne, and a measly $50k for two years after.

The only reason you got pick 27 for Grundy is because Collingwood elected to pay $1.5m over 5 years of his contract.

This trade had nothing to do with Jackson, Hunter or Mitchell (although Collingwood needed Grundy off the books to facilitate the latters trade).

You do realise the more you pay the higher the draft pick, hence pick 27.

Anything less than $1.5m you may have got a late 3rd rounder.

Just because you believe something is so, does not make it. This is not a debate champ, I'm telling you what happened

Just had to go back and check, but the Hunter trade was dependant on Weideman going to Essendon.

Nothing to do with Grundy.

This is accurate.

Wrong. Hunter is in record as saying him coming to Melbourne was worked out weeks before the trade. Maybe not the details of the trade and the financial aspects, but he most definitely didn’t become available “very late in the trade period”.
