I've been really slack keeping up with the show ever since it moved to NBC. I think I've only seen 1 episode :fearscream:

NBC have released their schedule for the new season, and are banking on production to have started for most shows.
They have given Brooklyn Nine-Nine a September start for the first time in NBC’s run with the show. This means we will see a Halloween Heist episode.
Although no confirmation on the number of episodes this season. it could be 13 and stop midsession, or prolong it till May, and have a 22 season episode.

Someone posted this cold open from Season 5 on Twitter the other day and the damn thing has been stuck in my head ever since... So because I'm such a sharing guy, it can get stuck in all your heads too:

Basically they seem to have been struggling with the idea of a police comedy in general given the systemic issues around how the police deal with people of colour

From the article I posted:
At the same time, Brooklyn is facing a significant challenge in the wake of George Floyd's death. "The writers are all rethinking how we’re going to move forward," Samberg, who also exec produces the series, told People in July. [Everyone is] discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now, and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally OK about? I know that we’ll figure it out, but it’s definitely a challenge."

Ok, sounds more like they're looking for a meaningful way to engage with the dialogue. The way Vader framed it I thought it was something that now comes off as inappropriate in the scripts which would be odd.

But throwing away the entire season seems odd unless there was a specific plotline which was insensitive but cant imagine that to be true with this show.
As long as they stick true to what the show has always been and a comedy first then fine. Seems more like a lot of shows that get shortened and pushed back in their last season due to low ratings. Agents of Shield being the most recent example I can think of.

That can happen... but B99 was definitely delayed as a result of the decision to ditch all of the scripts they had developed, and to start completely fresh, for the new series. From memory, they were only days away from starting to film.

As to why they made that decision... your guess is as good as mine.

Gutted they’re cancelling it.

Irregardless of BLM, they’ve always tackled the big issues. I’m surprised they’d throw the towel in for that reason specifically.

I think it was always ending, it's more about the nature of the scripts for the final season changing.

Valid, the ratings have always struggled for some reason. It’s always seemed to rate really well with those that use SM but that hasn’t reflected in the ratings unfortunately.
