A decent enough season finale. Will it be series finale or are they signed on again for next year?

Yeah, it was renewed for season 8 before the seventh season aired, apparently.A decent enough season finale. Will it be series finale or are they signed on again for next year?
They had to abandon all of the scripts they'd developed, as a result of the BLM protests. Not all that surprising but dissapointing the have it pushed back and shortened.

Basically they seem to have been struggling with the idea of a police comedy in general given the systemic issues around how the police deal with people of colourWhy?
At the same time, Brooklyn is facing a significant challenge in the wake of George Floyd's death. "The writers are all rethinking how we’re going to move forward," Samberg, who also exec produces the series, told People in July. [Everyone is] discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now, and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally OK about? I know that we’ll figure it out, but it’s definitely a challenge."

From the article I posted:
Ok, sounds more like they're looking for a meaningful way to engage with the dialogue. The way Vader framed it I thought it was something that now comes off as inappropriate in the scripts which would be odd.
That can happen... but B99 was definitely delayed as a result of the decision to ditch all of the scripts they had developed, and to start completely fresh, for the new series. From memory, they were only days away from starting to film. But throwing away the entire season seems odd unless there was a specific plotline which was insensitive but cant imagine that to be true with this show.
As long as they stick true to what the show has always been and a comedy first then fine. Seems more like a lot of shows that get shortened and pushed back in their last season due to low ratings. Agents of Shield being the most recent example I can think of.
Gutted they’re cancelling it.
Irregardless of BLM, they’ve always tackled the big issues. I’m surprised they’d throw the towel in for that reason specifically.
Valid, the ratings have always struggled for some reason. It’s always seemed to rate really well with those that use SM but that hasn’t reflected in the ratings unfortunately.I think it was always ending, it's more about the nature of the scripts for the final season changing.
