Many years ago Mal Brown (Campbell's dad) beat up 6/7 Bombers players at Windy Hill in an exhibition game East Perth vs. Essendon.
Its probably on YouTube, I just can't be bothered.
The old red & black really get's the Brown boys riled.
Oh, and the beating that Mal Brown handed out would have had both teams heading for the exit gates on Sat'day.
He was deadset Crazy in those days.

amazing thread.

potentially thread of the year.

insightful, informative. . don't think it could be improved in any way.

Boy alot of people forget that Mal The Mouth could play, but he is remembered more for his mouth and fists.

Must admit his best effort was in Adelaide, East Perth versus Carlton. He took on all the Carlton team and came out the winner, after a particular "so called tough" Blue doubted Mal's manhood.

Yes Campbell is a sniper, so his comments are quite funny. Mal was not a sniper, whacked them in front of the umpire.

He was a lunatic. Would have an arguement with himself in an empty room would Mal.

What do they think of when they see brown and yellow, well they only think of of the best my friend Louis Vuitton.

If brown and yellow is good enough Louis Vuitton it's good enough for the Hawthorn Football Club (and me).

:):):)Exclusive unsurpassed Excellence :):):)

And relevant too because as Essendon have given us a touch up this luggage will be very useful for a September holiday;););)

When he was coaching Perth - after a loss to West Perth, a reporter from the ABC asked him a question.

Mal took the microphone - pulled the cord from it (yes this was the olden days where mikes had cords) and handed back the broken microphone and just kept walking.

Mal Brown?
That was against Carlton in 1972. They wear Navy Blue.
East Perth never played Essendon in an Exhibition game.
The game was to decide the Champions of Australia where all the premiers played each other.

The only game Mal played against Essendon was at Windy Hill when there was a brawl, but he, by his own admission, played no part in the actual fight, having been grabbed and put in a head lock and being held down for the whole thing by John Cassin.

I always thought it was Jack Cassin on Neil Balme's back in the "Battle of Windy Hill - Essendon v Richmond" of 1974.

So many "blues" on the footy field in those days and things can get a bit blurry in the old memory bank but was it Mal who decked David McKay in an interstate game? Or John Nicholls or BOTH?
