Again with the season average stats.

The Brownlow is not that. Its an assessment of each game. 90%+ of those stats were not earned head to head, and had different results and different team mates and opponents performing better or worse than them?
In a parallel world, Wines plays for the Bulldogs, Macrae for Port Adel, they perform exactly as they did this year and Macrae is the Brownlow medallist.

Why is that so hard to understand?
What’s there to be so insecure over? Reading back all I see is a fan pulling out every stop in the book with everyone here to defend a player from team supported. It’s just an award so relax.

Wines had a great season. It’s a stats comparison, not the be all and end all. His performance on everything you mentioned did not warrant being 22 votes clear of the player in column A. The point is A under-polling as much as it is B over-polling.

I get major Matt Priddis vibes from Wines. But good on him. Oliver stiff with plenty of votes. How's melbourne smashing Adelaide by 43 points in Round 21 and Melbourne only getting 1 vote as a team. Lol. Shut the front door!

Ridiculous. Priddis (and Woewodin for those that keep mentioning it) were not favourites going in.
You are kidding yourself if you think Wines is in the same bracket of players as Judd/Goodes/Martin.

Wines is easily one of the worse winners of the award.

Nice that you picked 2x dual BM winners and 1 BM, 3X NM winner to prove your point. You're comparing him to the absolute best, including two that have finished their careers. Wines still has time to achieve more than what he has thus far.

Wines holds his own against the more human brownlow medalists of recent time, such as Lachie Neale, Tom Mitchell, Priddis, Cotchin, Cooney etc.

Quite often the Brownlow winner isn't necessarily the best in the League - its more as to how many of your team mates will take votes off you - eg Priddis. The year he won he definitely wasn't the best player that year very similar to Wines probably. And then you have Oliver who probably should have polled better than he did, however Petracca and others took votes off him which is the norm when you play for a top side.

And I thought my final comment explained that, nothing to do with being defensive about the player, just explaining how the voting system would deliver the result you're questioning. I even explained how I thought Macrae could be the winner in a different setup. If you think that's "defending my team's player" then I don't know what to say to you.

If that doesn't suit your view that's great, but I don't think dismissing my opinion without considering it on the base of a bias that isn't there, is much of a discussion point, is it?

Agreed.
Probably more of an argument against Steele and Walsh than Wines, Bontempelli or Oliver though.

Boak outpolled Petracca (and any of the other vote stealing excuse makers)

Port is Boak and Wines and then a huge drop off. Melbourne isn’t.

Go down to number 3.
Wines Boak and Amon outpolled Oliver Petracca Gawn.

Ports mid depth isn't there, we agree on that.
But where were Melbourne next vote getters? Mcdonald, Lever Jackson Fritsch. Where's the mids?
