Great review REH.

I went last night and loved it. Really funny in parts and it's great to see the connection he has with so many of us.

LOVED the Manchester couple. That's my girlfriend haha, she just doesn't get it.

My wife didn't get it either....until I took her to Hanging Rock 1.

Found this video from the BBC last night via a Greasy Lake forum thread. Its from when he released Tracks and the interview is October 1998 and it starts in a bar called The Saint in Asbury Park New Jersey.

I don't know why I didn't post these at Christmas last year when I found them.

A very young Bruce from 1974. Listen to how soft and mellow his voice is both speaking and singing voice.

The Lost Radio Show (1974-03-09 KLOL Radio, Houston, Texas)

1. Sound check

2. Satin Doll

3. Does This Bus Stop At 82nd Street

4. Growin' Up

5. Mary Queen Of Arkansas

That was certainly the weakest of the shows too.

It may have been the weaker of the 2 HR shows (obviously, as Incident was played at HR2), but I actually thought that it was probably the better "event" in terms of the whole day. The whole crowd seemed far more excited over the whole day than on the Sunday and Barnesy's set was sensational at HR1, but sounded tired and dated the following day (even with Ian Moss).

I thought all 5 gigs that I went to were just bloody fantastic, but it was the Wednesday night show that I couldn't fault (except for the lack of Backstreets).

I'm in the process of putting together a setlist of 30 or songs that we didn't get to hear at any of RLA or HR shows. I'll put it up tonight...its still impressive.

I saw that on Youtube last night as well, but I then saw that it went for an hour and just filed in the memory bank. I'll check it out tonight.

It was a very mainstream show, having said that, I still enjoyed it. I went with my mate and we weren't in the pit, he really enjoyed it and it was good to see people in the seats up for the whole show still enjoying themselves.

Yeah Wednesday was definitely the best show. It was sublime.

Cool! Look forward to see it, and your thoughts about my previous entries ;)

Alright then, these are all songs that I would have loved to have seen live at Rod Laver Arena or Hanging Rock, but weren't played at any of the 5 Vic shows (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm only going from memory). It's bordering on unbelievable that he could play such a diverse range of songs over the whole week, and we still didn't get to see or hear any of the following tunes:

(in bold are those that would I would have particularly like to have seen)

Growin' Up
Blinded by the Light
It's Hard to be Saint in the City
NYC Serenade
BACKSTREETS
Darkness on the Edge of Town
RACING IN THE STREET
THE TIES THAT BIND
Independance Day
Point Blank
Drive All Night
Reason To Believe (the bluesy Live 75-85 version with harmonica)
I'm on Fire
No Surrender
BOBBY JEAN
Walk Like a Man (especially the solo piano version)
Spare Parts (love this live)
Human Touch (very, very underrated song, especially the bridge)
Brilliant Disguise
Blood Brothers
41 Shots
Janey Don't You Lose Heart (acoustic or full band)
Long Time Comin' (acoustic or full band versions)
My Lucky Day (acoustic)
American Land
The Promise
Don't Look Back
Shut Out the Light
Devil's Arcade

There's dozens of others that I could have picked and there's probably not enough real "rockers" to make a really good concert with just that setlist, but these are all songs that mean a lot to me and I would have liked to seen each of them at least once....but I'm still not complaining (I saw Backstreets in 2003 and "Racing" in 1985).

It would have be so good to shout out "the ties that Bi-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-nnnd!!!

It must just so hard for Bruce to do setlists. I once tried to come up with my own perfect 35 song Springsteen setlist on another forum, and was astonished and racked with guilt at what I had to leave out.

I will add some that he left off the tour altogether that he could add... I'll try and make it realistic to how it would end up in a real set

Also, American Land was the final song at Melbourne 3.

Ties That Bind (As paddy18said, singing that chorus would be mental)
No Surrender
Night
Don't Look Back
Streets of Fire (It's sheer power would be awesome)
Darkness on the Edge of Town
It's Hard to be Saint in the City
Devil's Arcade
American Skin
Loose Ends
Growin' Up (Just fun. Simple as that)
Frankie (It belongs with his best work. It is an amazing song. If any song should have been on an album, this is definitely it)
I'm on Fire
Trapped
Blinded By The Light
NYC Serenade
Tunnel of Love
Fire
For You (solo piano)
Backstreets (I don't think I even need to explain)
Human Touch
Racing In The Street (See above)
Bobby Jean

Talk To Me
Girls In Their Summer Clothes
Drive All Night (In a word, it'd be beautiful)
The Promise
I'm A Rocker

Those opening five songs would be nuts. The intensity from Devil's Arcade and American Skin would be crazy. And he'd never close with any of those songs :D

I was disappointed that the only song off Darkness not played was Streets of Fire.

You've done a great job so far and I've really enjoyed your narratives and links. As requested by yourself, here's my brief thoughts on your choices. Please don't get cranky at me for anything that follows, we all have our own preferences.

100. It's A Shame Semi-rip off of Beast of Burden. Okay, but wouldn't even be in consideration for my top 100.

99. The Wrestler About right. It would be interesting to see what our thoughts would be if it wasn't connected with the movie and we didn't think of Mickey Rourke when heard it. I suspect that it would be looked upon more favourably

98. The Brokenhearted. No thanks. Sounds like one of the cheesy American teen idols of the late 50's.

97. Wrong Side if the Street Good track, one of my favourites off the Promise. Different type of chord progression, as you hardly ever go from G straight to Dm, but it works on this track

96. Your Missing. Superb track. The imagery in the very first line is amazing (shoes in the hall), especially knowing the story behind the song and knowing who "the missing" are. Would be higher on my list.

95. Bishop Danced. Great track. Probably my favourite song off Tracks when I first bought it, but I haven't listened to it much over the past couple of years. It sort of reminded me if Wild Billy's Circus Story when I first heard it, but unlike WBCS, there's no story, just heaps of weird shit. Nonetheless, it's fun.

94. Hungry Heart. About where it should be. Top song live and for singing along with in the car, but possibly overrated. My kids love it.

93. Better Days. As mentioned previously in this thread, I met my wife a couple of weeks before Lucky Town came out and it was a perfect song for me at that time. As such, it will always be a lot higher on my list of favourite Bruce tracks. I was rapt to hear it at RLA.

92. Working on a Dream. Does not belong on this list. it's crap. (IMHO :) )

91. The Promise. Yeah! Although lyrically there a couple of pretty ordinary lines in there (eg. some nights I go to the drive-in, some nights I stay home), I like the whole premise and the story behind the song and I think it stacks up really well musically. Vocally, he's also in fine form on this track, like most of the stuff from the Darkness era.
As somebody else has mentioned, it's top 20 material. Not sure what you were thinking here (you may have still been a bit befuddled trying to work out why you had WOAD only one spot lower)

90. Janey Don't You Lose Heart. Good choice. Nice track, but I seem to be enjoying the solo acoustic versions a lot more that the Tracks version. Both are good, but you hit the nail on the head where you said that Bruce can make sad songs sound fun when played with the full band. This is one of the track where the lyrics really shine when played acoustically. I might have to learn to play it I think.

I'll try to catch up with the rest of your countdown of the next few days. I had to go back through the thread to list all of the songs counted down so far and I sort of got lost in reading old posts and checking out vids and links and a simple jobs has taken me half the night. I can't believe how much I love Bruce and his music...it's a bit overwhelming.

Yeah, I knew that there would be one that he did play that I'd forgotten..good pickup.

Also I should have added Trapped and Frankie.

Thanks for putting them in some sort of setlist order, I couldn't be bothered doing that. Would have taken me all day.

lol didn't expect you to do them all paddy18, I only meant the recent ones I added :D But I do appreciate your words :thumbsu:

It's only semi accurate, he'd never play that many epics in a show. After the first maybe 7-10 songs, it was partially guessing. The "encore" really isn't very accurate :D

I was curious to see how many different songs I have seen live over the 4 shows I have been to. (Melb 2003, Belgium 2003 & Sydney 2013 x 2)

It turned out that I have seen 57 different songs, which surprised me a little as I have seen 2 shows of The Rising tour & 2 from Wrecking Ball.

Some of the highlights were
Thunder Road ( all time favourite)
Backstreets
The River (acoustic)
Jungleland ( those first few notes were sublime)
Sandy (4th of July)
Devils & Dust (acoustic) into Last to Die
Darkness on the Edge of Town
I'm on Fire

I could go on........

If you look at The Rising set lists, they barely varied from night to night, maybe one or two songs, a few more if Bruce was feeling adventurous. As we know now, every show is going to be different and you just don't know what you're going to get.

There were two shows back to back on The Rising tour where the set lists were identical.

I spent the day taking a video of my friend singing a song she wrote about Bruce Springsteen. Basically fans here are making an Australian version of the Bruce springsteen doco. Thought i'd let you know in case you haven't heard. You should submit something too :)

He was so hot when he was young.

Yeah I heard about that nicky. Not sure what I would say though. Haven't been through any hardships etc so yeah I dunno what I'd say. And that photo is too much lol

That photo is hot. Seriously, i can't think of a more attractive photo of a guy.

Do you have to go through hardships? Can't you just talk about how much you love him?

Haha. You should direct your friend to this thread, and give her my number.

I suppose, I don't know if words could do it justice. My status updates from the days of the concerts probably sum it up best as it was in the moment.

This is what I wrote after the first concert: Sometimes in life if you're lucky you will experience the greatest night of your life with your idol. Tonight, I had that experience. Just wow.

And when it was all over: And so ends the greatest week of my life. I waited 10 years for this and embraced every single moment. There were only highs, and the highest high was absolutely indescribable and something I will never forget. I have experienced the greatest moment of my life after seeing my favourite song performed before my own eyes. And I thank the people I met along the way who made the experience even better!

I'm next to the Asian guy, that look pretty much sums everything up.

Who is organising the Australian version of Sringsteen and I nicky ??

is it open to anyone or a private thing?

Is there Australian fan club - official or unofficial?? Cruyff14 do you know? I've never found one. My aunty used to run the Cliff Richard one. I remember she met him a few times from the late 1970's to around 2000 when he toured Oz and Adelaide in particular.
