Who is organising the Australian version of Sringsteen and I nicky ??

is it open to anyone or a private thing?

Is there Australian fan club - official or unofficial?? Cruyff14 do you know? I've never found one. My aunty used to run the Cliff Richard one. I remember she met him a few times from the late 1970's to around 2000 when he toured Oz and Adelaide in particular.
Phil, if you know who he is. It's on the BS Australia 2013 page.

New tshirt arrived today.

Singing that opening verse live is amazing.

Couldn't help but sign the first two or three lines out loud at last weeks screening of Springsteen and I before I realised I might be annoying others.

Cheers. Might have to get this one a s well

I'm thinking about buying that one, or one of the other E Street Band ones, getting it on the back of a tshirt then when (if) I see them again, I can take my jacket off as I walk out so people behind me see that.

Well I think it'd be cool...

So as part of my initiation I've started working through albums after only hearing live recordings and Wrecking Ball.

Born to Run is wonderful. But Darkness is something else. It hasn't got the hits of BtR, but it just connects in a much more significant way. BtR captures what we want and what we wish/dream. Darkness however gets where we are now. The mood of the album is so completely different. It's amazing.

Racing In The Street is genius.

Just about everybody in the theatre was singing it when I went. It was a quite a nice moment actually :)

Nobody of the 30 odd in the cinema I went to, sang out loud, that I heard.

That would be worth bumping it 5 or 10 places on your original list Cruyffy, wouldn't it??

I've said before that when I finally depart this earth I want that played at my funeral. I'd like to be able to somehow be able to watch the faces of the attendees as it plays.

Sort like when a mate got married in 1998, and for his song at the church he played Nick Cave's Into Your Arms, and the opening line "I don't believe in an interventionist God But I know, darling, that you do"
and the reaction from the priest and people in the church was interesting.

BTR actually didn't have a hit other than BTR and even that didn't zoom up the charts because the way they released that to favourable DJ's well before the record was released. From his wiki page BTR made it to #23 and Tenth Avenue Freeze Out to #83 on the US/Billboard charts.

Prove it all nights made it to 33 and Badlands to #42.

BITUSA was the album with 7 or 8 top 10 hits.

It will move yes, another live staple will always be shooting up a fair few spots too.

63) Bobby Jean
Album: Born In The USA (1984)
*New entry*

I have never really understood the hate for Bobby Jean. I mean it obviously isn’t one of his greatest songs, but I think people are a little harsh on it. Yes it doesn’t belong in the encores, but I do think it holds a special meaning for Bruce.

Musically, much like all the songs on BIT USA, it is nothing outstanding. It’s simple, but Bruce knows how to do simple good. Has that nostalgic feel to it, and whether or not it was about Stevie leaving the band, I think it was about someone close to Bruce.

Clarence’s sax to take out the song almost feels like closure.

62) My City of Ruins
Album: The Rising (2002)
*New entry*

My City of Ruins has had three clear different states. The way it was released on the album, where the band are present in full from the beginning, the piano intro Bruce took on during The Rising tour for half of the song, with the band coming in afterward, and its final evolution for the Wrecking Ball tour. A semi-big band sound, coupled with a tribute for members who have passed on.

To be honest though, in each form, it is a class song. For The Rising tour version, I feel that is the saddest form of the song. With Bruce solely on the piano, you can hear the anguish in his voice and I feel I connect more with the lyrics because there is less to focus on and I can appreciate them more.

The song, personally for me took on a whole new meaning on the current tour. It is semi big band, but in a good way. The horns add a lot from the outset, Bruce’s speech through the intro and the band remaining through the actual start of the song. It is a song I feel was a fitting tribute to both Danny and Clarence, and it being extended to incorporate band intros too sat well with me. What I noticed was when Garry did this but after being introduced, hearing that bass was magical. I feel Garry doesn’t get the praise he deserves a lot of the time.

To see Bruce make an arena full of 15,000 people silent was something I was in awe of. When he did the whole are we missing anybody spiel, I was very moved. You could hear a pin drop, and I was disappointed to only hear it at only one of the five shows I attended.

It must be said, the organs on this track are amazing.

From around 10 mins, wow. I cried the first time I watched it.

And here is the one from Sydney

61) Where The Bands Are
Album: Tracks (1998)
*New entry*

Is it just me or is The River the album to have the best songs left off it? It’s not my favourite of Bruce albums, but these gems that were not included on it keep popping up and just ask myself how they didn’t make it on the original cut.

Anyway, Where The Bands Are is fast paced and I really like its lyrics. These two lines particularly always stick out for me

I hear the lead singer shoutin' out, girl
I wanna be a slave to the beat

I’m not quite sure why or what it is, but I really just like those two lines. The live version I have exposed myself to is a little different to the recorded version in terms of arrangement. And the intro Bruce used on the live version is perfect. Him singing with his Tele echoing his voice, then the band came in.

Stellar track, criminal it didn’t get on The River.

The sound of the song reminds me a little of Ties.

60) Take Em As They Come
Album – Tracks (1998)
Previous rank 48 (down 12)

The only reason I know about this song is because I was downloading a bootleg from a torrent for some tracks I wanted better quality of and I thought I’d give this a go anyway.

How this is on Tracks I do not know. It is a testament to how good his albums are if this does not make it on. (And the fact that Tracks has four discs). For those playing at home, it didn’t make the cut on The River. And to add that they’re still better than most of the garbage released today. Mind boggling.. An extremely rare gem. Would fit right in if you ask me, and I would have no qualms about getting rid of a few tracks from The River in place of this and a few other songs that should be on there.

63) Bobby Jean
Album: Born In The USA (1984)
*New entry*

Bobby Jean is easily my favourite song off BITUSA and I think that the nostalgic feel that you describe has a fair bit to do with it. The last verse does it for me, coming straight from the bridge and concluding with the "just to say I miss you baby, good luck, goodbye, Bobby Jean" (love that bit). The Live 75-85 version is awesome. Would probably be in 50-60 range in my Top 100.

My City of Ruins is one truly shit hot song. All versions are brilliant are you're dead right about how moving it was at RLA2, with the crowd hushed and Bruce crooning softly with his arm outstretched, resting on the shoulder of his missing buddy. Like you, I wish I had seen it more than once, but it may have lost the impact a second time. For me, it was the highlight of the Tuesday night show.

Where the Bands Are. It's another that really stuck out to me when I heard Tracks for the first time. Would be in about the same position on my list as well. Great track and as you mentioned, it's hard to work out why this was left off the River and Crush on You made the final cut. I get the comparison with Ties (but it's not quite as good)

Take Em as They Come. Another solid choice. I'd be really interested to hear both this and Where the Bands Are if they were give the same heavy production as the tracks of Magic were given. I think I'd like both of them a lot more with the whole band "wall of sound" production, but most Bruce fans will disagree with me.

63 - 60...you've picked 4 really good tunes, with My City of Ruins being the only one that would be a lot higher on my list.

Looking forward to your next instalment, although I see that you have already put that up on the FB page o_O. Please keep putting them here as well, as I 'd rather give you my thoughts on this page rather than FB. Cheers

59) Fire
Album: Live 1975 – 1985 (1986)
*New entry*

Ba… ba ba bad a. Catchy riff and it reels you in very easily. While musically and even lyrically it may not be outstanding, it is a fan favourite. It was awesome to see Bruce and Clarence team up in the final verse with the Sampson and Deliah bit, you could see the joy they would have. Just doesn’t feel the same when Steve does it.

This is sick, so much fun. He keeps goofing around and when he gets back to that 70s voice woweeeeee, hits it at 2.42
