Okay, we'll agree on that. At least, that's a song both my wife and kids will know. God know's they've heard it enough times.

Just need Bruce to come to the party now.
I'm so ****ing pumped.

Following the setlists is exhilarating and knowing he is in the country and people I know are at the shows makes it even better.

The meet up on Thursday is where it all begins for me, CANNOT WAIT!

He didn't do Hunter of Invisible Game either did he?

Not sure how it would go at a live show anyway. Nice song and all that, but I'd much rather see and hear something else.

Can you do something about that Adelaide weather forecast for this week? Seems like it will be nearly to hot to venture outside, let alone get to the venue for any roll calls.

Might get a Cold Chisel tune in Adelaide.

......

I was talking with Ford Fairlane about what he might play in Adelaide. Chris Bailey was a Brisbane boy so they got JLFW the first night in Brisbane last year.

Now he could do a Chisel of Barnsey song after Barnsey supported him at Hanging Rock both shows. Stevie co wrote ( with another American) Barnsey's hit Ride the Night Away so that might be a chance.

Master Apprentices - Turn Up Your Radio or Because I Love You could be a chance

But Ford and I reckon if he knows his Adelaide bands then The Angels - Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again should be considered. Could you imagine the response of the Yanks and the Europeans at the show when the crowd shouts back No Way Get ****ed **** Off?? Social media will go nuts!

I reckon you wouldn't be able to wipe the grin off Bruce's face....even Garry would get a laugh out of it.

I'm smiling thinking about it.

Because I Love You is an amazing track.

And no way he would say that line from the Angels.

He wouldn't, but we sing it back to him after he sings Am I ever gonna see you face again?. That's how it works at Angels show.

My mate who is an Aussie but lives in upstate New Jersey, was a music promoter and booked bands for 3 or 4 years in northern NSW before I met in 1996 when we did an MBA together. He promoted Jim Keays during that time and knows him well and negotiated the "mechanical rights" to Because I Love You for the US market. A year or so after he set himself up in the USA, initially in Jersey City, we talked about what sort of businesses and organisations might want to use it in an ad.

Those lines - do what you want to do/ be what you want to be / oh yeah - is very similar in sentiment to the US defence forces ads of the 1990's and early 00's of - be the best you can be - themed.

As REH says, the singer doesn't sing 'the' line. And if they can do it on Rockwiz, surely at an Adelaide concert with consenting adults. :D

*warning* Rated L for Language. ;)

Fixed my list took that out and i forgot he added Because the Night.

Bob Marley in Redemption Song which he wrote as he was dieing of cancer sang -
Have no fear for atomic energy/ 'Cause none of them can-a stop the time/
If atomic energy can't do that I can't do much about the sun. Best bet will be in the line 10 minutes either side of roll call and then head to The Gov hotel on the other side of Port Road.

I'm still on a high from last night and I don't know when I'll come down. Sleep is no cure (as if I would want a cure for this high), and I'm happy to keep riding this wave for as long as it wants me.

So why not write about last night's show. After all, I've written maybe 100,000 words over the years detailing why the man is as great as he is, so what's another chunk?

Here goes. We all know about expectations, whether they're unreal, great or high. But what about expectations that are above anything which can be described? That's what I was feeling at about 7:30pm last night. My hopes and expectations for my first ever Bruce Springsteen concert were so far and away above what the man himself deserved, and it's unfair for me to ever have expected the impossible from anyone, let alone an idol of mine.

After all, I've heard hundreds of his concerts before and spent disproportionate amounts of time discussing with other which version of 'Murder Incorporated' from the 1999/00 reunion tour was the best... which live version of 'Thunder Road' (aka the greatest song of all time) soared above all others. I've spent hours searching for the little things which make Springsteen's songs great. And you know what, I wouldn't say I've wasted a single second.

I've heard how great the man has been. How each and every live show I've heard has at least one moment that makes the jaw drop and the heart skip a beat just a little bit.

So that's my level of fandom. I revere the man so much that perfection was my expectation.

Then it dawned on me... the law of averages states that sooner or later the man would be due an absolute stinker... and what if it was the night for that stinker. 17 years of waiting to see the man and his band in the flesh and I get the horror show. It would be so cruel for that to happen.

But then I reminded myself that perfection isn't attainable and all I can hope for is the next best thing. And as the band walked out and Tom Morello burst out the opening riff to 'Highway to Hell' and my stupid fears and idiotic worries just disappeared into the Perth Arena.

Finally, my time had arrived.

Honestly the show went by in a blur and simultaneously seemed to stop time. It was fantastic. 'Highway to Hell' was glorious. Ragged at times, to be sure, but it's AC/DC for crying out loud. Ragged is what it's supposed to be.

As we cracked straight into 'Badlands' and then 'Adam Raised a Cain' I thought that maybe it was a Darkness on the Edge of Town run-through, and that if it was then I was sure to get 'Racing in the Street' and that it just might be too much for me. And I did/didn't want this to happen. I did because the song is my second favourite of his, and I didn't because I went to the gig alone and I didn't want to be that random dude standing with tears streaming down his face six songs into the night.

We didn't get the whole album but hell... 'Badlands' into 'Adam Raised a Cain' into 'Streets of Fire' (thanks to the sign pulled from the crowd) into 'Candy's Room' left us in no doubt. Tonight was going to be a tour de force of balls-to-the-wall rock and roll, with the electric guitars front and centre.

There wasn't a song which didn't seem out of place. 'High Hopes' still isn't a favourite of mine (I don't think it will ever be) but last night it worked. The Horns add so much to the band's sound and last night they elevated no-faves into great raves.

Yeah, we got 'Spirit in the Night' and it was just awesome. Yeah, 'Wrecking Ball' held its own between 'Spirit...' and 'No Surrender'. Yeah, 'Because the Night' kicked ass.

The fanboys and girls who only wanted a Born in the USA run through for three hours got 'No Surrender', 'Bobby Jean' and 'Downbound Train' in pretty quick order.

'Open All Night' got everyone dancing, and frankly if you weren't on your feet with a smile on your face you probably didn't have legs. 'Radio Nowhere' was a welcome surprise and didn't seem out of place in the set (FYI... not a fan of Magic or Working on A Dream or whatever it's called. Ugh), and 'The Ghost of Tom Joad' was superb. I questioned why Bruce just didn't put a live version on the High Hopes album and I stand by that even more after last night. The album version seems positively sterile in comparison.

Don't tell anyone, but I'm not that much of a fan of 'The Promise'. It's a good song, but it tries to be something more and just doesn't get there. But last night it fit just nicely and there wasn't a complaint to be made by me.

The encores were joyous and sad. Joyous because how could they not be, sad because I knew the night was coming to an end. Loved the 'American Land' ending. Such a great song and I think I got a couple of looks from people who couldn't believe that I knew every single word to the song.

Then, the gutpunch.

While a great sentiment, I've never really liked 'Terry's Song'... probably because of the album it came from. But last night it was just about the best thing I've ever seen in a concert. Maybe it wasn't, to be fair, but last night it seemed like nothing else could beat it. At that moment in time, it was perfection. Loved it.

And of course he ended with 'Thunder Road'. So what if it wasn't with the full band? It's still 'Thunder freaking Road' for crying out loud.

And with that, I was done. I left and caught a cab home.

I'm still on a high from last night and I don't know when I'll come down. I don't think I ever want to.

One of our touring party has just pulled the pin on our trip to Adelaide, with a bout of gastro.

This leaves us with one hard copy GA Front standing (pit) ticket for the Tuesday night show.

Anyone keen.....or know of anybody else may want to go? Cost price only.

RussellEbertHandball another song that crossed my mind is Redgum's I was Only 19. Be a fitting trilogy with Born in the USA and War.

Mind you so would Khe Sanh, although John Schumann prefers to sing it as Long Tan.

American Skin is a song that doesnt seem to get much chatter amongst the Bruce aficionados, but is one I'm hoping to see the most.

We're loving hearing all the tour stories at roll call...

When we tell someone tomorrow will be our first ever show, they get excited themselves telling us how much we are going to love it!
