I was lucky enough to win a ticket in the South By Southwest draw to see Bruce tonight and all I can say is wow!

It was a totally amazing show - it featured a lot of new material, there's definitely a fire in his belly. You can definitely pick up some influence the Dropkick Murphies have had on some of the new material there is a definite Celtic flavour and lots of soulful, bordering on gospel numbers and very few of his anthemic hits.

It was in an amazing theatre venue that holds 2,700 people, I was on the floor and there were two tiers of balcony seats - not a bad view in the house.

Don't ask me which songs were/weren't played because I'm not overly familiar with his work.

There were some very special guests - Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine popped up for a few songs including a blistering version of The Ghost of Tom Joad, Jimmy Cliff sang a couple of tunes - man can he sing! Eric Burden from the Animals got up for a version of We Gotta Get Outta This Place and there was a star-studded finale that featured those I just mentioned and more including members of The Arcade Fire and Jack White.

I felt very privileged to see such a special show that ran for just under three hours.

The word I'm hearing that Australian Springsteen fans need to keep their calendars clear in late July or early August.

blackshadow you lucky bastard! :)

I only know a couple of dropkick murpy's song but I think you will find the Celtic sound comes from the Pete Seeger influence and you can hear it all through the Seeger Sessions CD he released in 2006 and toured US and Europe and produced the Live in Dublin DVD.

You can check out the set list at the following link at Greasy Lake fan site. 24 songs. If you click on the Multimedia tab you get the 3 YouTube videos of Bruce and Tom Morrell doing Ghost of Tom Joad, with Eric Burden and about with about 20 people on stage doing Woodie Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land. One day I'm gonna pen an Australian version of This Land is Your Land.

Greasy Lake have really spruced up their site over the last 18 months.

In the car after the Port v Melb trial game, well after I spent an hour at my sister's I was listening to ABC News radio and they took the NPR morning program from the US, and did a segment on this concert and they talked about stories earlier in the week they broadcast on Bruce from SXSW. I will try and dig them up.

There will not be a better song in my entire life I will hear than Jungleland.

thought about this a lot, but if there is a better song by a band where all of the members stand as one, then throw in an audience with their interaction..... i am yet to hear it.

Jungleland performed live is like one big music feast.

It is perfection Xtreme, for me it will never be topped.

This Land is Your Land sent shivers down the spine - simply sublime.

12. The Way You Do the Things You Do
13. 634-5789

What are these two songs. Iknow they are covers but think I might know what 12 is but no idea what and who by 13 is.

Ripped out 7 tour premier's last night.

And extreme rarity in Does This Bus Stop At 82nd Street!

Prove It All Night, Radio Nowhere, Atlantic City as well....great! I don't think there was as much variation expected this time around, but 4-5 changes every night is still fine IMO.

Was happy to see Because the Night was played the other night. I hope a few songs from The Promise get a good run.

41 Shots was dug up, in response to the shooting in Florida the other day, I assume.

Is it me or is there a fair bit of Johnny Cash in the last song on Wrecking Ball - We Are Alive?

Almost has the same beat in parts, especially at the end as Ring of Fire.

Listen at about 0:30, 1:30, 2:40 and from 4:30 onwards to the end. Is there a similarity or am I hearing something that isn't there? I thinks its the trumpets.

They have mutual admiration for each other.

In 1983 Cash made an Album called Johnny 99 and covered Johnny 99 and Higway Patrolman from Nebraska.

Lost In The Flood is epic on the NYC Reunion DVD.

I somehow don't have that one actually  ...must seek it out.

Geez the setlists have been amazing over the past few gigs. Tour premiers for Streets of Philadelphia, Night, Darkness on the Edge of Town, Adam Raised a Cain, The Promise, and a 15-minute Kitty's Back!!!

Here it is. Just wow.

You guys think it's safe to assume Jungleland and Spirit in the Night have been retired?

Racing in the Street finally showed up in the set last night! Although if I was at that show I would be absolutely spewing that I got Ramrod instead of Kitty's Back or something else equally awesome... ( I hate The River....well most of it)

Just listened to the MSG 2009 'River' Show - Drive all night is one of my favourite songs. Point Blank, The Ties that bind, The River....the list goes in. It ain't my favourite album but alot of songs are right up there.

You guys should check out The Gaslight Anthem; their sound has been described as Springsteen-like.

Playing a song with the man himself.
