I enjoy their banter. Some people just love to complain though

No. Some people would like to watch the game and actually only hear about the game. Without extraneous bullshit.

There's a little tournament on right now in Brazil. It's enlightening to see how the commentators in that sport treat the product and the audience. With respect. With restraint. With impartiality. With professionalism.

All the things we don't see here.

does anyone remember ricky olarenshaws career on ch 7, and his staunch defence of the networks stance on not showing friday night games live?

to elaborate...."people are cweeetres (creatures) of habit. on friday nights people go out for dinner and then watch the game"

(this was when better homes and gardens was shown at 7.30)

I think BT is one of the best business and I like that he talks about the little things like the security guards.

I love his catch phrases but he needs to mix them up a bit and make new combos using the catch phrases we all know and love. eg. Sells some duke candy, the calder cannons foot and hand candy factory

Are you feeling okay?

I wonder if BT will ever decipher the difference between Impey, Cassisi and Wingard? I also wonder if he'll one day actually learn the rules - he had no idea re the Monfries decision.

While still being rather annoying at times, he has been much better than he normally is tonight. The absence of Luke Darcy is a pleasant surprise.
Tim Watson in place of Darcy has definitely helped BT tone down his "commentary".

Watching the world cup and listening to Martin Tyler's refreshing commentary. He is exactly what commentators should be. In sync with the vision and not wanting to be bigger than the coverage itself. Only commentates what needs to be commentated with his own relevant insight, no unrelated and sickening hyperbole that AFL commentators throw in.

something is worrying me and causing distress.

does anyone else think ch 7 team are amplifying their behaviour? really hamming it up (perhaps to disguise lack of knowledge)? if so, then surely direction is coming from above to act in this manner.

not too dissimilar to ch 9s cricket mob

I guess when you're commentating on the biggest game on the planet there's no need to be insecure. As much as we love footy, it's a barnacle on a pimple on the buttock of world sport.

I've reached the point where I simply cannot watch if he's commentating. And if it's a Geelong game I turn the volume down very low.
Yep. I wanted to watch the Port-Dons game but couldn't. Turned over to the Freo-Dees game and it was awful so watched cricket instead. **** BT for ruining my life.

I'm not sure that's an issue though. BT's problem is not trying to make AFL seem bigger and better than it is, it's that he's a complete buffoon. Same for the rest of the rabble. Even Dwayne Russell, who does try and talk up everything on the footy field as better than anything we've seen in our entire lives, doesn't come across as doing this because he's insecure about our game's standing; he's simply an idiot.

Seriously though, I listen to BT on 3AW simulcast sometimes at work, and he is so much more bearable on radio than TV. Not great, but expresses his personality through commentary without being completely unbearable (unbearable being exactly what he is on channel seven).

Channel seven are the greater evil here. They have ruined football coverage with their blatant disregard during this rights cycle, and if I were Gillon, I would be giving them the middle finger and banning them from the next rights bidding, no matter how much money they throw on the table. Though they must have a lot, given their commentary and vision looks and sounds like it could be conjured with a four figure sum of cash. That budget must look awesome.
