Buckley can't coach

I think he coached the game against the Dogs as bad as I've ever seen. We just bombed it in long and played in to Mccartneys hands. The game needed to be slowed down when they got a run on but Buckley continued to let it flow.
How do you know that Buckley told the players to bomb long? If you had slowed the game down would have you got the fast break goals you scored?

Maybe blame the players not the coach

The interesting thing was after giving his young defenders help all year by dropping a man back he went away from that. Possibly was more concerned about winning the contested ball in the middle so equalled the numbers around the ground.

Maybe he should've kept the man back and conceded the they very well might lose contested ball but really stretch the dogs on the counter attack.

Sometimes I think coaches focus too much on winning particular stats compared to winning the game.

Havent read the thread and not going to
At the start of this year I would have agreed that Buckley was a shit coach

Having looked at how he has managed to integrate so much young talent into the team ( with low picks ) whilst still keeping the pies in the race for the 4 you have to take your hat off to him

This notion that the number of inexperienced players we have is not important is bloody mindedness.

Of course it matters. It's not the whole story and it doesn't excuse any strategic deficiencies Buckley has, but it is entirely relevant. GWS are littered with future stars who are inexperienced, and they are therefore not dominating. We have a better blend of experience and inexperience, hence we are more competitive over all. As games are pumped into players like Kennedy, Witts, Grundy, Broomhead, Scharenberg, Freeman, Langdon, Frost, Elliott, Adams, Williams, Seedsman and Fasolo, we will improve as a club. Premiership list? Definitely not now and I'm not sure if it will be. But it will improve and that improvement is entirely relevant.

Well those players should be dropped. Can't go doing the same thing against the Hawks.

If you had told me at the start of the year that:
Ben Reid would miss the whole season (so far).
Nathan Brown would miss 9 games, and Maxy 3.
That Toovey is our only defender currently to have played more than 31 career games, and was coming back from injury. (And Marley has come back into the side playing pretty well, when he could've spent the year in very different surroundings)
That Swan and Cloke would both be having very poor seasons - and of our mids/forwards, only really Beams and Elliot can say they have had a better than par season. Pendles has been as expected, everyone else has been incosistent.
And our two top 10 draft picks havent hit the park yet.

And that we would be sitting at 8-4?
I would probably have laughed at you.

Most Collingwood fans knew this would be a rebuilding year. To do that while remaining in touch of the top 4 (so far) is a pretty good outcome.

Our very young defense has had it's down games (which should be expected), but for most of the year have held their structures very well. I think that has been the focus of Buckley's gameplan this year - really starting with defence first, and it has worked pretty well in most games.

Not the point. Theyre actually good players even though theyre relatively inexperienced.
How many <50 did the bulldogs have?

Not as many - we've been rebuilding for a while now so a lot of our kids are in the 50-70 game bracket now.

Lol it's not an excuse. It's a reason. You can't expect such a young and inexperienced side to consistently back up to that high standard week after week.

I dont think its the youth causing the inconsistency, this is my point.
You guys had a lot of youth last year and were much more consistent and not losing to many bad sides.

Yeh I checked up on that. A huge number between 50-80.
I just love it how the excuses fly as soon as Collingwood lose.

I just love how everyone is biased against Collingwood.

We had 7 guys playing who had over 100 games experience.
The Bulldogs had 8.

I am not making excuses - because the Bulldogs clearly played much better on the day. They won 1-1 contests all over the ground. What I am saying is that most Collingwood fans knew this would be a rebuilding season at the start of the year - we were always going to be incosistent with this much youth. It is about having the correct expectations for a list - we are doing very well to be in touch with the 4 (given the plenty had tipped us to miss the 8 this year). Why is it such a shock when we drop the odd game?

Rubbish. No chance were we more consistent last year. Round 3 were spanked by Hawthorn, round 5 thrashed by Essendon, round 7 beaten easily by Freo and round 9 towelled up by Sydney. Went WLWL for 9 weeks, with the wins including a dominant performance over Richmond and a win over the undefeated Geelong, and the losses including three 45+ spankings. Then later in the year got smashed by Port, lost unexpectedly to Gold Coast, got beaten easily by Hawthorn again and then suffered another shock loss to Port in the final.

Compare that to this year and we've won 7 of our last 9. Yes we lost unexpectedly to the Dogs but that's really the only bad loss we've had. Adelaide are playing well at home and have also beaten GC and North by 6 goals there in recent weeks.

If people think its rebuilding why is everyone in the football world still talking about Collingwood as a top 4 chance?
I dont think I've seen one collingwood supporter until now talk about rebuilding...they all think you guys are still a flag chance.

You probably are if you replace Buckley mid season.

What? Most Collingwood supporters have known this was a year of rebuilding from the start, just because we aren't bottoming out doesn't mean we aren't rebuilding...
