With due respect to the club, the drawn out nature of the selection of our assistant coaches has become a bit laughable.
Why is waiting to see what candidates may become available from the fall out of Geelong's senior coach selection, which was only announced a couple of days ago, a bit laughable?

Are you saying our process starting two months ago new of the aparent demise of Geelongs coach back then and therefore wanted to wait?

Or are you saying, the players in our staff recruitment thought we have waited two months what's a couple more days to see what's happened?

We have waited too long IMO and we missed some good candidates eg Tudor, Richardson, etc etc. Perhaps our $$$$ or bad stigma worked against us, but it's been a tough and long process.

Roll on 2011 with a different theme would be nice.

Where Port missed out is that they took too long to come back to him. He was interviewed by Port some weeks ago before Port contacted him again with the offer of the assistant's coaching job. They contacted him late last week and gave him the week-end to think it over.

Probably indicates Port weren't actually that keen anyway.

As he did in the article on Campo in the 'tiser today. That was definitely the case.

By contrast, Viney resigned from Adelaide on the Monday last week and within 6 days, Adelaide had interviewed 6 applicants, one of which was Camporeale, and finalised it by appointing Camporeale on the Sunday.

The selling point for Camporeale was Adelaide's concrete offer of being the mid-field coach and a chance to work with Neil Craig - not money.

If Port had acted a week earlier, he'd be an assistant coach for Port, not Adelaide.

I wouldnt say they were slow in deciding, it was probably bad timing with the trade period. He actually rang Adelaide 2 months ago so Adelaide was his first choice and i guess when Viney left he thought he would take it.

"The former Carlton star approached the Crows hierarchy about a job two months ago, but was told there was no vacancy in the coaching box for 2010.

He started the interview process with the Power shortly after Matthew Primus was confirmed as the club's new senior coach and appeared destined for a role at Alberton until he received a phone call from Adelaide football manager Phil Harper last week.

Midfield coach Todd Viney's shock resignation and defection to Melbourne had created a vacancy on Neil Craig's coaching team.

Camporeale, who faced the distinct possibility of having no job to go to next season, was suddenly faced with a decision and speaking in Adelaide on Monday said it had been a tough one to make."

So if i was going for 2 jobs and i wanted one at first but it got pulled then whilst the selection period was happening on my second preference my first preference rang me and said we have an opening, i would take my first preference too lol

No I'm not.

It was reported on 6 October, a couple of days after Thompson resigned as the coach of Geelong, that the club would finalise its coaching appointments in a fortnight. By my reckoning that makes it about tomorrow.

I'm certain that no matter what process the club goes thru' or what timeline it takes there will be those "supporters" with a negative mind set that will be able to find fault.

I was just checking as first impressions that is how it read to me :)

Nothing to find fault though, but you don't have to be negative minded to see Port isn't an attractive place to be. Perhaps all the public issues on money has people scared, perhaps some people like to be really comfortable?

It's up to our club to prove all these people wrong.

it was always on the cards that the crows would take someone we potentially wanted

its like saying "where would you rather eat? Gauchos or McDonalds... and the meal costs the same"

Its a sad truth about how we are seen in this state. We have a rich successful corporate giant like the mighty Adelaide Crows... and we have those broke ass lowlife scum Port Adelaide parasites... where do you want to work?

At first I was :D and then it turned to

Grandpa Cornes just announced that Andrew Newton Jarman will be appointed our mid field coach on Thursday. Supposedly its a reliable source. One of his sons?

But Jars reckons he hasn't spoken to Port - Rowe called him off air.

He did a lot of big talking when he took up the Perth job but they still finished crap.
Maybe not all his fault as there is a big gap here between the top and bottom sides but to me he comes across as all show no go....Hope we pass on him.

Obviously a 'panic appointment'

Whereas Port are being thorough

Working with Mumbles, christ, they only give a life sentence for murder

Would Jars and Primus have been at The Parade at the same time?

When Jars joined Norwood in 1990 Primus would have only been 15. Without looking it up, i think Jarman got dropped a few times whilst at the Crows, he may possibly have played a few games in 95 when Primus was there. I doubt they played a lot of footy together though.

I think Jars would be a great coach, as someone who has heard him address players match day and at training, he would be great for our young lads. Don't be fooled by the media buffoon we see, he is a smart and passionate man. He done far better with a similar North squad to that Healy done, Healy probably played a more AFL style game plan but couldn't motivate or get the effort out of squad that Jars was able.

I recall the club being pretty miffed when Healy took up the North coaching appointment as they had not seen it coming. If my recollection is true, then that would put Healy in a similar boat to Sanderson, in terms of the club's ability to trust him.

Wonder if Max Rooke would be any good at this caper? Tough, hard, inspirational wrecking ball of a player who could play forward or back. He's young and would bring a bit of knowledge with him.

It's rumoured that he likes to dress up as a mascot so I'm not sure how bright the lad is.

Yes i know it was Stokes that did it after the 09 granny but apparently Rooke wanted to before a game when he was injured....

I could be way off the mark here footyhead, but I reckon if we start excluding players because they liked to 'dress up' there would be a lot of empty coaches boxes in football ... ;)

Dressing up like Colonel Russell Williams would be exclusionary tho ...

See your point there and we did have Adam Hueskes on our list for a while...

The story I heard was he declared himself fit and the club so you aren't and you're not playing and he wanted to dress up as the mascot so he could still run out with the boys and feel a part of it.

Hearing it was funny, seeing it written makes it look a bit far fetched.
