What about Cahill as a tactical and coaching advisor? Or too old for the rsearch required? he's probably better just as a mentor.

Off topic interesting to see him present the medal which is named after him from a club which suppsoedly doesn't have his history btw :)

Seems that way - in part. Harvey quit to go home to Saints, fair enough.

It reads like Monty & Lappin were given DCM, because Carlton simply expect to attract the best candidates, not just the best available*.

Monty took forward line in 2008 and backline the last 2 years. So he's had experience Dealing With Difficult Personalities, good. On Carlton's board, there is a mix of reactions to Monty going, some surprised, they 'liked his work', others criticize him for the Blues becoming 'very predictable at kick outs', point to their defence as their weak point, and still others [reading between the lines] are not sure who to blame for Gibbs being used at HBF instead of in the midfield. Where have I heard that one before ??

Our club has some critical and tough choices to make wrt ACs.

* strange, alien place that Carlton board: "Remember Carlton. Best available means they aren't the best. Let's just steal the best assistants." followed up with "Long live the Pratt motto for our great club". Plus a bunch of head shaking and teeth gnashing every time someone won't take their money. LOL, but I feel dirty just reading that sort of ****.

Carlton's defensive problems are mainly due to lack of big KPDs. Even the best defensive AC can't solve that problem.

What about Goody wanting $250,000 a year?

I don't want Eade, I am not a fan of his style.

I think nabbing a Scott, Tudor, Richardson would be ok or what about trying to get back Phil Walsh seeing Choco pushed him away for the Laidley role?

Don't know about Monty either, never been a huge rap on him other than his on field abilities, after the rumour of him having a go at Tredder's.

not sure what you mean by this, but Walsh isn't a bad suggestion

On this. I thought it was interesting that the year the guy who took his job was outed Cahill decided to present his medal. I assume that there was a rift between Choco and Jack? Or am I reading too much into it?

or instead of paraphrasing you could just copy the whole 2 sentence and see I changed and suggested mentor!

But that's ok
I didn't paraphrase but quoted the entire first sentence. You asked a question, I gave my answer. :)

Not sure if he'd be much good as a mentor either. The only role I can see for Jack at the club these days would be as a motivational speaker to the squad once or maybe twice a year.

Jack motivating or mentoring Gen Y's - yeah, I'd like to see that:eek::rolleyes:

to senstive you think?

He could mentor and motivate the coaches though.

Lets be honest it's like Bailey or Melbourne not wanting Barassi to give an opinion now and then, why would you not?

Jack's was in the right place at the right time and took the opportunities superbly.

He is old school and old fashioned evidenced by his short stint with SA a few years ago.

My fear is that he may not be recognised by the current batch for his previous deeds and therefore any message he may have (limited IMO) would not carry much credence or be treated with respect and understanding.

What do you mean by that part?

We never cease the chase of this bloke.

Problem is, how much do we have to choose from really? Not many people want to come here, to me it seems adelaide's popularity is up there with Sibera

Nothing sinister - Jack had an uncomplicated game plan, he knew what type of players he needed and got, or developed them.

He also played the PAFC invincibility card, or at least got the players, and the opposition, particularly Glenelg:D, to believe it.

This is the model that Centrals currently use - the right time and place for them, albeit in a different standard competition.

I keep hearing Rick Macgowan's name and same pretty positive recommendations.

Is Ricks name being used in the same sentence as the words assistant, and Port Adelaide ?

I still remember back to mid year when there was a rumour of a Vic based assistant coach selling up and moving home to Adelaide to take up an asssistant role ..... the landscape has changed with choco gone, but would it be Rick.

Camporeale has moved back to Adelaide - was an assistant at Carlton or Essendon?

According to cRowie on 5CC this morning, Rick McGowan is leaving Hawthorn but will be concentrating on his business, not moving to Port.

Simon Goodwin is doing a LeBron James and announcing his assistant coaching destination tomorrow (believed to be one of St Kilda, Hawthorn, Carlton or Essendon)

John Longmire has confirmed Stewie Dew is being promoted to his assistant coaching group.

But cRowie says Primus has quite a few lines in the water for assistant coaches.

Cripps may be leaving for West Coast aswell.

Probably not a bad thing. We have been shocking in the past few years, almost stale. Gone are the old heads of Bailey, Morris, etc. Matty now needs to find the next set of old heads, they weren't there in Kingsley and Cripps.

Abba reported on 7 news that Matty met with Brett Montgomery in Melbourne today to sound out his interest in joining Port's coaching panel.
