Dogs have more to gain from the man-on-the-mark rule, better users of the footy and better ball movement than the Saints' surge gameplan.

Stef Martin is a good pickup but has to say out there, exactly what Saints supporters were saying about Ryder this time last year.

Both teams will be up there, I reckon the Dogs could make a huge leap into the top few, and I expect the Saints to finish about the same as last year, but still an improved year on the back of a tougher draw and probably (already!!) more injury issues than 2020.

I'm more excited to see the Saints go past the old guard (Geelong, West Coast etc) rather than get in a scrap for 7th and 8th, don't think that will be an issue for the Dogs, they'll be clear of those spots.

How would the Dogs have gone this weekend without

Naughton (King),
English (Marshall),
Martin (Ryder),
Libba (Hannebery)
Treloar (Crouch)
Their equivalent of Jones (who came 6th in our B&F last year and was at one stage (in the 2nd half of the year) 10th in the AFLCA coaches votes)
Their full back (Frawley)
and their 2 best shutdown small defenders (Paton- who had the big jobs on the Papley/Cameron types last year and was rarely beaten, and Geary)?

Or how would Richmond have gone without their equivalents?

As it was you were only missing Houli, and yet you struggled to shake off a Carlton team who were missing Curnow, Williams, Martin, De Koening and whoever else!?
I stopped reading after you named Hannebery as being Libba’s equal.

Hannerbury, Ryder and Frawley were all ‘buyer beware’ type players so you can’t really complain when they are perpetually injured because every man and his dog knew that they were going to be injured and not playing. Recruiting them was just plain stupid.
King is playing as well so that doesn’t count either.
Everyone got way, way ahead of themselves with where they thought the Saints were at. It takes time to build into a contending side and people seem to forget how shit the Saints were just before they traded out Bruce and traded in Hill, Jones et al...
They might be on the right track but a contending side they are not.

Saints should keep bringing in rejects players from other clubs. Working wonders so far.
Maybe they can look at bringing in Kade Simpson in the mid season draft? Or maybe at the end of the year they can offer a draft pick to Geelong for Dahlhaus?

Because Saints are 8 points up in one game? Lol.
Because they’re completely different when they have a fit King and Marshall. To say the debate is over at round 8 is absolutely ridiculous. Saints are getting better every week that Ryder and Marshall play together. Your comment writing saints off just opens yourself up for trolling
