C-D4 Vic Rep squad - nominations?

And besides you'd think D4 coaches would be less inclined to want their gun players participating for fear of injury as well. I imagine the higher clubs would be better equipped depth-wise to cover injuries that may arise from this pursuit.

I find it hard to imagine there are any "gun" players running around in D4.

very short sighted. All clubs C-D4 should try and get as many blokes into the squad as they can. ALL players (and then clubs) will benefit from the experience and extra training. I can see no downside at all.

Agree with the sentiments Ugly, a player sent to the rep squad training should relish the opportunity to experience running around and socialising with the section's elite, even if it is only for 1 or 2 sessions if they get cut early. Cannot hurt their footy development at all and in turn your clubs overall development.
Talk of rep squad nominations can also help lure a potential recruit! Too many positives to worry about injuries, they are more likely to occur on the cow paddocks many of us are training on twice a week.

Have to agree with most that D4 players sighted thus far. None would be in the mix as far as quality is concerned. Perhaps as a token gesture to appease a D4 club's ego would be a reason. Some of the quality players that St Marys, Hawthorn and UHS had in previous seasons is not matched.
Cannot speak for Kew, SFX and WB who may be the exception to the comp.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Bill Irving of West Brunswick is worthy of a spot.

Why would you bother if you had no chance of participating anyway?

I know when my coach puts my name forward I will decline the offer!!!! :D

Branigan from OG is a certainty, as is Buckets from Rovers as well as Fletcher.
Watch for these ones...Lee from Williamstown, Ballard from Emmaus St Leos and Beltman from Mazenod.
Meighan from Fitzroy Reds looks good, as does Irving from WB.
Watch this space lads...

Keem from yarra would have to be a chance from a lower division. Great hands and very dangerous when kicking straight. The Buddy Franklin of Ammos one could say

rumours are down at hampton that 7 blokes names were put forward by the vafa to the coach sheldon, and sheldon wasnt happy that they wanted to put that many guys through extra trainings and possibility of injury during games, that he said no to any hampton rover playing in the red squad. so dont expect any rover blokes.

Briza, methinks( I thought that might remind you of someone on the D1 thread!!) that you might have meant Veltman and not :rolleyes:Beltman!!

Otherwise, quite an authorative list....do you know something Briza??

Lee has got 34 in four matches now in D3 - if full forwards are in demand then . . . perhaps try Paul Edwards too who has 16 in two matches

Both v v good players. D3 surely would be bringing experience and good characters in these two - plus a Wells from Monash (experience sake)

Doubtful after yesterday's effort. Kicked a couple of snags as Yarra's major target but otherwise kept pretty quiet by Reds' skipper O'Reilly. Maybe played more like Buddy did against Richmond?

Sam Savage is easily Yarra's best player at present, but rolled his ankle 2 minutes from full-time and left without crossing the interchange. Nothing going right out at Domeney Reserve.

Without seeing these guys from D3 I'd think they would be pretty lucky to be picked ahead of some of the C or D1 key forwards going around. Names that come to mind are Dunne (Mazenod), Rochford (Parkdale), Lawrence (Hampton), Jukes (AJAX), Keem (YV), Sleight (Prahran), Cochrane (OMs), Payze (Peninsula) etc.

totally agree - whether all players are availbale who knows . . . and depending if a squad tries to get some reps from lower grades who knows again - firepower galore listed here !

Close to the mark. He asked the boys at training during the week and only 1 bloke put up their hand.

Again the automatic preference of selected players focuses on the grade at with they are playing. It is undoubtable that there are more good players playing at the higher division clubs, however that does not mean that there arn't very good players in the lower grades also. How easily we forget that the same players who have played in the different grades may go up and down the grades with their teams and perform regardless. Eg Does Dunne from Mazenod become a worse player because he has dropped with the team from B grade a few years ago, or conversly is Payze now a superstar that he has moved up from D2 in a couple of years.....

Moral is that genuine tallent is going to show in any grade, regardless of D4 to A grade. and hence any player who is showing form is worthy of selection, without grade bias.

On the third read of this, I think I started to work out your point - that there are good players in lower divisions.

Agreed.

However, there are more top notch players in the higher divisions, that is why their clubs are up there. This is not grade bias, it is a product of the grading system itself - he cream rises to the top, collectively and to a significant extent individually.

Of a rep team of 24 players, I'd expect you'd get roughly 12 from C grade, 6 from D1, 3 from D2, 2 from D3 and 1 from D4.

Just a guide though. ;)

Oi! stop making so much sense and discussing this like reasonable adults, this is Big Footy for F@$#s sake.

Interesting to note a certain man with a clip board wearing what appeared to be apparel from an A section club taking notes at Lindsay Hassett on Saturday. Best for Aquinas was DenBrabner, best for South was Mahoney, could we see these two figure in State colours. Maybe not but still worth throwing their names into the mix.

Pretty sure Den Braber has played against the SFL on a couple of occasions already - would certainly be a good chance for the squad.
