Talented kid no doubt but that's a lot of money to pay for what in reality, is nothing more than potential. His current output isn't worth 200-300 thousand a year. I guess they have the money to throw around, especially when front loading the contracts

They know it's potential. But he's shown enough to be confident he'll be at least a very, very good player. Captain?

Would definitely have captaincy potential, would have most likely been our next captain.

I think the Bulldogs should drop him this week ;)

But if they didn't, he might do a Gary Ablett and play the game of his life for the Dogs.

An interesting dilemna. Arguably a case of cutting your nose off to spite your face!

Against and injured riddled Freo in a dead rubber? With Harbrow the team was still in finals so you had a reason to keep playing him. If the last few weeks has been about development of kids I'd rather Mitch Wallis get another game in him before seasons end.

I probably would. It would be a tough decision but I think the allure of being a one club champion for your local team as opposed to playing for a new club in western sydney would be enough for me to stay.

It was enough for Kruezer to stay at Carlton....he was offered Ablett like money to go ..but knocked it back .

Sometimes it just ain't all about the money .

Wouldn't it also tarnish the farewell game for Hudson and the other bloke?

Did anyone hear on SEN, I think it was sometime last week that another player has told his club he's leaving for GWS. I can't remember who it was, all i remember was thinking he wasn't that good. Anyone know?

5 years is a long time, good luck living in that shit hole area of Sydney Callan.

You're obviously disappointed and all, but ignorant comments like that do you know favours.

Have you actually been to/seen Breakfast Point where they ALL live? Do you even know whereabouts in Sydney it is?

Happy players at currently successful clubs won't leave.

Kreuzer is a good example. Swan as well.

Oh Please. Collingwood and Carlton can offer their players adequate compensation in one form or another - during or after their playing days - to match a GWS offer. Bulldogs cant.

Judds 'job' at Visy being a case in point.

Had the misfortune to head to parramatta every other month with a previous job. The area is a hole.

What's the excuse for Andrew Swallow and Jack Ziebell both knocking back expansion clubs then?

For mine it is far more about players feeling the club is on thew right track or not.

I personally find the whole Breakfast Point set up creepy in the extreme.

Breakfast point looks like a big retirement village.

The average age of people who live in the suburb is more elderly than most. It's not exactly a retirement village though. :)

They are usually the only people who can afford to move there, generally after selling up the big home after the kids have moved out and downsizing to an apartment or townhouse.

Why's that?

Most of the Swans live in the beachside suburbs around Clovelly, Maroubra etc.

What's creepy about setting people up in a great, modern suburb all closeby. It's not like the whole club is living in dorms here...

I saw a special on it on one of the footy programmes recently. They (GWS people) were saying how they wanted it to be like an American college thing, where all the athletes lived on the same campus and they all train together and socialise together etc.

It just seems creepy and "forced".

It is my personal belief that it is arrogant and selfish for a young player to take the money and run under these circumstances before he has achieved something for the club that has drafted him (or at least busted his gut for years trying).

Please, 99% of people who say that would take that deal.
He would have been crazy to knock back such an obscene amount of money when he really isn't that good.

If it was a normal established club setup with players of all different ages and marital status's and some with tribes of kids and some still waiting for their first root etc, you'd have a point. But these are a bunch of young kids brought together to a BIG and unfamiliar city, so it's a fair bit different. I'm sure the parents of these kids are happy with the path that GWS have setup.

Ward and Davis are both still young themselves so don't apply, but if some of GWS' signings in the next few weeks are mature experienced players with a wife and a couple of kids, I'm sure they will not be forced to live at Breakfast Point if they don't want to, but I can guarantee you that when they arrive and have a look around the place, they won't be able to move in quick enough...
