Callan Ward - Part 2 - Officially gone to GWS

Re: Callan Ward - Part 2

Callan Ward didnt put his hand up for this, he was aggressively stalked by GWS because he happened to fall out of contract in the wrong year. Griffen, Selwood and Bartel would have done the same. The club should have had some foresight and restricted this from happening.

He has more than paid for himself in his time at the club, and the club will be rewarded well for it.
.

mmm he declined a contract extension last year. He didn't just "happen" to be out of contract this year

No they wouldn't have because they didn't. Griffen stayed with us for less than Wad was offered. Selwood and Bartel were aggressively stalked by GWS before Ward and they both decided to stay without much conflict. Why is it so hard for people to accept that Ward has made a decision that is very rarely made by players i.e., to leave their club for money and money only. He is now in the illustrious company of Nathan Brown and has shown that monetary gain is more important to him than being able to stay home and play footy with his mates (for a decent wage too). No amount of hand-wringing and apologizing will change that.

Maybe you should read what the club has been saying. They tried to get his contract completed before the season but he declined.

Who are you, his Mum ?

Let's all be self hating Dogs supporters and blame the club.

Dermott summed the whole situation up perfectly this morning on the Sunday footy show when he said there is something wrong with the whole GWS situation when Callan Ward is being paid as much as the likes of Judd.

The only players to have walked on he Bulldogs in he last 10-15 years are Harbrow and Ward, and they have been lost to these new contrived franchises, who have offered obscene amounts of money to both.

He might have declined a hugely undervalued contract but his intentions were to stay at the club. The club made some errors and a lot of this is because the club didn't manage things that well last year.

Re: Callan Ward

I've never understood why BigFooty closes threads at 1000 posts. What does it achieve?

Anyway, thanks for the memories Ward. Looking forward to watching us belt your mob by over 100 next year

Requirement has come from Bigsoccer in the US. The DBA has said it reduces the load on the back end database. Or they're trying to keep the index sizes down.

Re: Callan Ward - Part 2

I really hope behind the scenes we are already thinking of how we can plan to get Ward back after his GWS contract expires.

Grab the money then come back for the last 4 or so years of his career.

I believe we couldn't have treated Ward much better so no doubt there is no ill feelings between the club and Ward. That just might be a very good thing in the future

Re: Callan Ward - Part 2

If there is any slight doubt that he is going, the pictures of him after the match in the herald sun should put them to rest. gawn.

Best-case scenario is that he won't be required in 5 years. I'm hoping we forget about him and won't need him.

Re: Callan Ward - Part 2

I hope so too.

But **** the afl and GWS. We have to be ruthless and bend GWS over as they have both done to us.

Sneakily plan something with Ward now, say "No hard feelings mate, we understand, go get your cash and become a great player using all their resources. Then when your contract is up we'll work something out so you get back here with your friends and family".

I'd be very dissappointed if Fantasia doesn't try something like this, or put it in the back of his head for the future. Lets screw someone else for a change

The biggest insult is that crap he went on about in that double paged spread early in the season. Close to his family, his mates follow the club, he was sure the contract will be sorted. You've got no character or integrity Ward and hopefully the players we get with the picks have more integrity than you

No thanks, he can play with his beloved Bombers when he returns.

Crap, club offered an extension at the end of 2010 and it was rejected.

Griffen,Selwood and Bartel have had opportunities to play elsewhere for more money and stayed.Crap comparison.

However I do agree that the Dogs will be rewarded well, but only if they nail
their compensation picks.

Re: Callan Ward - Part 2

Like a few others it would be great if Cal came back one day. The players definitely don't seem to hold any grudges which is good.

More to the point, no offence to Cal but i'd much rather griffen, selwood or a younger bartel over him every day of the week.

if we lost griffen...... we'd be f*cked

I would go on a killing spree. That shit is something that shouldn't even be joked about!

Maybe take it up with him in a pm rather than keep posting about it...

Re: Callan Ward - Part 2

I don't blame Ward if he goes, it's a massive, life changing offer for a young player who is still up and coming and might never become 'elite' like Selwood or Ablett.

Have loved watching him at the dogs and I don't blame him if he goes, I blame the bloody AFL. They bring two new teams in and we lose two up and coming players in Harbrow, and possibly Ward. Although, Harbrow hasn't really stood out as much this season up at the Gold Coast, if fact, I think he's been pretty ordinary

Re: Callan Ward - Part 2

Harbow never really had great disposal did he, wasn't really the person you wanted kicking a pin-point pass out of a forward press. He's probably under alot more pressure with all the youngsters around him instead of lake, morris, gilbee and williams.

imagine a cross breed between Gilbee and Harbow...
