News Cam McCarthy to the Pies?

Didn't Cam go back to WA for family reasons? Why then would he choose to leave his family again and work interstate?
It’s funny the kind of pull family can have when there’s a big money offer involved. It’s also interesting how people can mature and decide that a long distance relationship with that family can be achieved when the money suddenly dries up.

Maybe Beams can teach him finger painting while they both sit on the sidelines contemplating their afl careers and soaking up the pies salary cap
You know that a rookie wage sits outside the cap, yeah? And that’s all he’d get I would imagine. Minimum chips or stay home.

I like finding value and buying low as much as the next guy, but I don't think McCarthy will ever represent a return on investment, even if he came as a rookie.

Risks outweigh returns IMO. One to keep an eye on after a year in the WAFL to see if he can clean himself up and show some professionalism.

Rookie is a free hit there's no risk

What’s the risk of letting him train over the preseason for a rookie spot? Genuinely curious, because it seems like a completely risk free option....

Unfulfilled talent should always create some sort of interest.

He'll be 26 at around the start of next season, so why hasn't he mentally settled into the role of AFL footballer? Why would that change with us?

His talent makes the questions worth asking, and our links with his last coach should help to give us the answers.

Rookie normally don't make it at AFL Level and he have more Potential then most Rookie Picks.

As people said as a Rookie we can leave a Rookie Spot open during Pre-Season and have him come over and do Pre-Season with us like Harley Bennell and then we make a Call at End of Pre-Season IF he has Question Marks on him

Club friendly. Thats not how we do it at the pies. Usually double their salary and years.
The club better make sure it’s friendly or I will go down to the club with my friends... wielding clubs!

As many have said let him train over the summer break for a rookie spot.
Work his @rse off and see if he seeks out conditioning staff and coaches for more help to improve himself.
If he does that he may be worth a shot.
Otherwise . . thanks for coming but no thanks.

Isn’t he a down grade on Jamie Elliot the forward?
would rather fill Elliot’s mid field role and get him back in the forward line. Tyler or Reef to step up next year.

He certainly knows where the goals are from those clips. He can kick goals from anywhere, outside 50,from the boundary line,so that already puts him ahead of any of our forwards.I wouldn’t be against signing him up,because it won’t come at any cost. It’s not like the Beams situation at all, where we had to give up two first round picks and significant salary cap space to get him.If we can put him on the rookie list,I don’t see what we’ve got to lose.

Wasnt aware. But still not a fan of a spot being spent on a guy thats quit 2 clubs?

Give it to a prospect KPF that doesnt get drafted. Someone that has a hunger to play football at its highest level. As im sick of disinterested/long shot list cloggers. It is still a rookie spot , but we need to be realistic with those that take those spots

Find us another Mihocek, a pure footballer

This guy has more talent than most of our team.
I'd be happy to take a chance on talent that would come cheaply.
We have enough hard working plodders and enough injury-prone players.

Don't be drawn in by "talent" when that talent has no desire to do hard work or be there

Liam Jurrah had talent , however was more intersted in being an extra in a blade movie

I have no opinion one way or another but I remember a no-hoper traded into this club via freo and north melb who did pretty good.
If the kid has no backbone we don't want him.
But the attitude of some on here is plain laughable.
